i loved this scene. how contradicting it was...... there she was on the stage singing about wanting to rule the world with a confused, sedated-looking face probably wondering what she's doing there and in general.....perfect
Yes sir. She became everything she hated without even knowing it. Welcome to desire. Greed is just another form of desire. Desire blinding the mind while feeding the ego hah. Everybody wants to rule the world is a perfect song.
It makes this scene so much better. On any other show she’d sound 100% on key/would be singing over playback/pre recorded in a studio, but here they have her do it live with her voice a little shaky since she’s not a professional singer, but it makes it more impactful when she does land a few of the notes
So much fucking emotion. I lose it every time I see the tears in her eyes as she sings this. And it’s such a good build to what she’s going through later in the season. The parts where she starts just straight talking instead of singing really resonate.
Pleaseeeee. It’s by far the best cover of this song I’ve ever heard. It gives a completely different feel. Insane emotion when she goes off key and especially goes from singing to speaking. And I love the original.
"Everybody wants to rule the world" is a beautiful song in its own rights, but somehow this rendition wins me over. Perhaps it's just me, but the melancholic overtones somewhat suits the lyrics much more. This scene is emotionally powerful as it pretty much sums up the inner struggles Angela has been bottling up to this point in Season 2. The only other soundtrack that's cleverly used in a TV series (X-files) would be Cher's Walking in Memphis. So I do hope Mr Robot would make it's soundtracks available. I would gladly pay for this!
Angela's scene, before this; with the plumber? When someone calls her on becoming a moral vacuum, she counterattacks with money. "You're a plumber? That's the best you can do? I'm 27 and have a six figure salary." Same thing happened with the S1 Finale, when she was shoe shopping: "How can you work for them?" "I don't know who you think you are, but I'll try the Gucci's next." And why is that a winning argument? Because 'everybody wants to rule the world'. I just wonder if Angela is trying to convince herself at this point.
I don't think i'll ever hear this song the same again. this episode honestly changed the series, I wonder how they'll deal with the weight of their actions now
Welcome to your life There's no turning back Even while we sleep We will find You acting on your best behavior Turn your back on mother nature Everybody wants to rule the world It's my own desire It's my own remorse Help me to decide Help me make the most Of freedom and of pleasure Nothing ever lasts forever Everybody wants to rule the world There's a room where the light won't find you Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down When they do, I'll be right behind you So glad we've almost made it So sad they had to fade it Everybody wants to rule the world
this was one of my favorite parts of the series so far. she had so much more going on when she got up there and sung the song and it made it that much more emotional.
I don't know what it is about this scene.. I love it tho. this girl, this song, the atmosphere. it just blends so harmoniously. this song with her singing has been stuck in my head for weeks. it's been good weeks.
This scene was so emotionally charged and raw.. something about it really resonated with me. not only did i feel a deeper insight to the character angela and her struggle but i felt a strange connection to the actress herself. This performance went above and beyond "acting" imo... The emotion is so genuinely, beautifully, imperfect! That karaoke sesh came straight from the heart and pain of whoever this amazing woman acctress is.... and if it was just a "hollow act", well then.. shes one damn good acctress- had me feeling like she wasnt acting at all.
I think you can upload the scene on youtube : with a video's software, if you put the video in the other side. (a sort of effect mirror horizontally.) 'sorry for my english, tell me if you know what i mean. I'm pretty sure it works. Thank you for this song :) this scene is beautiful.
Really didn't like her as a character till this scene. This almost made me cry. I love this song so much. The second verse about Winston and Julia from 1984 is so good.

love this version ... angelical voice and troll instrumental... love this serie ! thank for post!!!
This scene was GREAT! Watching them scramble to save themselves, stooping ever lower into depravity, in the most purposeful state imaginable, contrasted with Angela just not having a clue why she was ever born and the song and EEUUGH i love this show
Mr. Robot, a show where everyone really does want to rule the world. This scene couldn't be more perfect - with the most powerful hacker group in the world gradually seeking to overthrow the most powerful conglomerate in the world, as Angela, a member of that conglomerate, sings in sorrow, loss and utter alienation - and in this moment, we witness everybody wanting to rule the world, of those who rule it, of those who are trying, and of those who have failed. There isn't a more perfect scene in Mr. Robot that captures its story and themes so perfectly and wonderfully. I always come back to this scene for that reason; I also come back to it seeking to remind myself of how phenomenal this show was to experience for the first time - and at that, I always wish I could see it all again for the first time too; there will never be a piece of art like Mr. Robot again, and there especially will never be a piece of art which will impact me in the way this show did, ever. Watching this scene for the first time in 2016 was an escape like no other. I experience the chills everytime man, everytime.
You are dead on. I just finished bing watching this and I wish I could have watched it when it first came out. There will never be anything like this. And your right , this series had an impact on me like none other
Alex Norway Yes. I don't think her character is supposed to be a great singer. Especially not in this moment. But I am willing to bet that Portia Doubleday - the actress - is probably a wonderful singer.
yes ... her character is supposed to be under shit mood as she had the conversation with her dads friend... she actually starts singing properly at 1:25 breaking character but u can see she has good voice.
great scene, Portia's getting better every episode, best acting on the show to me.. loved Youth in Revolt w her and Michael Cera, best teen comedy ever, very intellectual & both were fans of Belmondo's archetypal bad boy (& cop killer!) in Godard's 59 classic, Breathless, a plot you never saw in a teen romance.. she's got a big future
This is combined with a reletentlessly obvious impending societal crisis and the angony, collapsing ambition and disenchantment that Angela is experiencing which she pours into her voice. There isn't a more perfect scene in Mr. Robot that captures its story and themes so perfectly and wonderfully, especially the ambience and atmosphere that exists in Season 2 (which might I say, is an incredibly underrated season of the show).

I always enjoyed this show and I always enjoyed this song. I found it now, for whatever reason. "Imagine a world gone insane" it says, Imagine just how right you ended up being...
Also agreeing with other observations of the scene’s contrasts. Has remained one of the most ethereal, naked and substantive scenes I continue to revisit because of the juxtaposition of fsociety dialogue with Angela’s context.
i loved this scene. how contradicting it was...... there she was on the stage singing about wanting to rule the world with a confused, sedated-looking face probably wondering what she's doing there and in general.....perfect
holy shit yeah
fuck yeah
Pretty much sums up her whole conflict this season! As she rises up Ecorp and feels guilt
That was exactly the purpose of that scene.
Yes sir. She became everything she hated without even knowing it. Welcome to desire. Greed is just another form of desire. Desire blinding the mind while feeding the ego hah. Everybody wants to rule the world is a perfect song.
The change in Angela has been so fascinating to watch. Portia Doubleday is so talented
When you say the change in Angela you mean the fact she sold her soul to evil corp ?
She's back on the good side
The final episode of season 2 reveals that she probably has been working with Tyrell Wellick and the Dark Army all along.
theNewGen101 you clearly didnt pay attention lol Whiterose recruited her in the end.
Yeah sry, I thought about the phone call at the very end. But you're right the abduction and all of that was much earlier.
I like that she doesn't sound like a real singer. It feels.. real.
cometome255 thats why i love tyler the creators music too.. sometimes a strong singing voice isn't needed depends on the mood of the song
It makes this scene so much better. On any other show she’d sound 100% on key/would be singing over playback/pre recorded in a studio, but here they have her do it live with her voice a little shaky since she’s not a professional singer, but it makes it more impactful when she does land a few of the notes

Aerochalklate I love his music cause he produced and created all his songs himself.
Feels bad
One of the best scenes yet. Perfect Song
A combination of armony, sadness, confusion and agony. Great scene for an incredible show.
Gave me shivers. Great moments. Amazing series.
Up there with Breaking Bad.
nothing is up there with breaking bad bro. NOTHING
game of thrones^
Me too. Fantastic series, can't wait for season 3 streaming.
I don't know why but I keep coming back to this version. Mr Robot really had an impact on my life
Me too :)
Same... this version has a melancholic feel to it and the lyrics fit so well with the shows plot and what Angela was going through during this season
@@DieWundeBliebt TH-cam comments are mostly awful but I never gave up because sometimes people understand me :)
I never understod how beautiful this song really is until i saw this. Really touching and real cover. Thanks for the upload.
Same
Chills everytime man, chills everytime. 2016 was a different time in our lives; and there will never be a piece of art like Mr. Robot ever again.
Ugh this show is just so amazing. The way it's filmed. The music they choose. It's all so amazing put together and I love it so much
What a pokerface she had all this 2nd season...
more or less what she was really feeling XD
yes... but she's doing better at every turn
Angela Moss..the most confused fictional character...EVER :)
Eliot has an imaginary man running his life and he believes the audience is his invisible friend. I'd wager that HE'S a tad more confused.
Not when he's on Adderall :)
+stefanos plaskasovitis causes a kernell panic.
She is the normie character of Mr Robot
Angela is the less interesting char in the whole show, passive as fuck
With all the manufactured music today, Portia's rendition was absolutely beautiful and such a pleasure for the soul!
Thanks Mr. Robot people :)
They should make her release a single as special content
agreed.
vocal + piano only = best cover of this song i've ever heard
yes... MAKE HER
Ripp
Pleaseeeee. It’s by far the best cover of this song I’ve ever heard. It gives a completely different feel. Insane emotion when she goes off key and especially goes from singing to speaking. And I love the original.
She sang it wonderfully!!
For being a blacked out drunk.
The guy at the piano delivered an awesome performance. I think he did not have the proper recognition so far in the Comment section...

In Elliot we trust.
I think Angela is the most exciting thing about Mr. Robot
they should release an official version of this

Such a good cover, and so dissonant when paired with the scene. I need to watch this series!
The dialog from the show adds so much aesthetic.

Scared puppy face: on.

This sequence is so mesmerizing
It’s these touches that I love about that show. Creepiest use of the song, IMO. In a brilliant way
She's beautiful
The gravitas of impending societal doom combined with this piece of music and Angela's defeated voice is so damn powerful.

yesss this was such an awesome scene.
wish they would put a version without the talking up. brilliantly simple, haunting.
This cover needs to be on iTunes
It's ridiculous that no one's uploaded a full version of this scene yet
Season 2 opened like Darlene wants to be the head of world's revolution and finishes with Angela ruling it. Maybe the best character of the show
This version is good as the original song... amazing
People tell me Angela didn't do anything but poker face all over the season but what about her inner fucking turmoil
what a scene... shame on all those who comment this scene with "she can't sing at all". you did get absolutely nothing
My first time watching the show I didn’t particularly like Angela. The second time through, she became one of my favourite characters.
Love this! so much!!! What a great cover!!
