My Top 5 Low Key AK Mods: 1. Muzzle Device (any break or flash hider close in appearance to Com Bloc devices) 2. KNS Adjustable Pistol (even only to reduce recoil, especially for 5.56 AKs to shoot like factory AK-74s) 3. Barrel Pic Rail Light Mount (very subtle, and pressure pad can be secured to the front handguard with goon tape) 4. Polish Fatty Pistol Grip (greatly fills the hand better than standard grip, and is a true Com Bloc part) 5. Enhanced, Enclosed Safety Lever (greatly increases speed for action, retaining all the benefits of the original dust cover)
Don’t forget about the weight you save by keeping your AK as close to stock as possible. I learned that expensive lesson adding “Alpha” upgrades. Great video! Thanks Klay.
Most underrated Ak gun tuber in my opinion. I got a M90 just because i came from the Ar world n didn't wanna stockpile a whole new caliber, but wanted to get into Aks n ur vids have been a tremendous help. Klay u taught me how to tune my safety selector, and how to do fast and proficient reloads so i no longer look like a tard breaking my grip and using my thumb to use the stiff safety and now i reload my m90 faster than my M4. Appreciate everything u do brother n will be buying merch soon to help support ya n help other newbs like me. Keep slinging brass and kicking ass bud 🤙
1) PK-01VS red dot optic 2) Polish the trigger friction surfaces to make it smooth 3) AK-103 muzzle device 4) KNS Piston 5) Zenitco B10 lower front grip. I'd stick to factory wood AKM stock for better balance and it's strong.
Also a good mod is to rubberize the metal plate on the back of the stock. You can do that with wooden, plastic and triangle stocks and it definetely helps shoulder your rifle.
Really want to try a Meridian trigger but 2 pounds is WAY too light for my tastes. I don't like going below a 4lb trigger on any semi auto rifle. Just too light for me.
Romanian dong with Mlok Rail on the weak side is something I would add to complement the "factory" look while keeping it highly scalable (for a light thumb activated for exemple), and the dong allows for a "better" prehension and recoil management (though on an KNS tuned AK, it's not *that* important).
I've got an AMD-65 with a KNS piston and once you get it tuned properly the difference is night and day, that's probably the go-to first mod in my opinion
I love that RS Regulate and Midwest industry side mounts they sits too low and feels soo good to aim on standard buttstock . Doesn't requires cheek riser.
I get what MI was trying to do with the interchangeable Gen 2, but they didn't publish my review on their site for the fact it comes apart if not thread locked. Somehow, they only have 5 star reviews on their site. Doesn't mean they don't make a great product, they just have a shitty reception to criticism.
I'd say for that side rail optic mount if you do not have a side rail just get one with a master mount. its super simple to install and looks kinda stock (ish) but lets you use those RS mounts and i love mine its super nice and allowed me to get an RS mount and a 3x acog mounted as far back as i need for eye relief.
All the same mods, only difference is the optic. I prefer the PA 1x or 3x prism to a dot. Just a personal preference. And it's nothing against the dot, I'm sure I'd like the exact setup you run just fine, I just like the idea of having an optic that's not dependent on batteries it's a little more rugged like the gun itself. Merry Christmas to all you AK folks out there!
If people are looking for another suppressor friendly muzzle device, Lantac sells one that has ASR threads on the outside for use with SilencerCo hardware. I dremeled a slot in mine to lock into the detent on my 14x1LH rifles. I couldn't get a Wolverine to work on my Polish Tantal because of the way the barrel is made (without having to SBR it unncessarily) so this was the next best option for me. Running a full size 16" 5.45 rifle with a KNS piston tuned just right to run with a can is pure bliss, the rifle does not move when you shoot it.
Thank you Klayco47! Keep it going man! You and rob ski need to make video together. Your content is very informative and incredibly helpful. Thank you again.
Only go to's are an attero mount for whatever optic I have on hand, alg ul trigger. Everything else depends on the purpose and vision for the rifle/pistol.
Right now ive got a primary arms 3x micro prism on the master mount on my zastava m70 zpap Just ordered a m4 yugo stock adapter and the dead air keymo flash hider Plan to order: alg trigger , a light mount, extended saftey and dead air wolverine
I have a rear sight pic rail that has a channel cut to retain a rear iron while still mounting a dot. Only thing I don't like is the height over bore but it's a small sacrifice
Just started the vid and I will say my top 5 mods that don’t change the look much are 1. ALG combat trigger 2. KNS adjustable trigger 3. Muzzle break 4. Side mounted rail with rds 5. Larger grip because my hands are big Honorable mention: extended safety lever
❤ did you put on an oversized mag release? Love the look. 1) gas piston, on my list 2) mount and rail, on my list 3) tuned the safety already 4) oversized mag release 5) trigger, on my list Had to change the p.g. due to hand size, factory is just way too small.
Ah, that's a replacement from M+M. I've mentioned it another videos it's really designed for loose magwels. If you have really wobbly mags it leans a little more into the mag adding more tension
on my SHTF ak I have a cheese grater upper hand guard a texas weapons systems hinged dust cover with a basic sig romeo red dot a texas weapons systems peep site for if/when my dot eats doodoo a khybercustomes flashlight mount a surefire light a jmac rrd slim 4 for the break a romanian wirefolder stock a romanian chopped reverse dong, making it a sharkfin and an alg trigger a wbp extended safety selector keep in mind this was a romanian md63 parts kit I built from scratch, the barrel is also a chrome lined ak builder barrel but the core parts are all romanian surplus its a 50/50 ak, there are a ton of aftermarket parts on it, but the bolt piston fsb gb rsb all that is original to the romanian parts kit
for my factory built SHTF rifle I have a WBP 5.56 ak with a cheese grater upper hand guard romanian wirefolder stock a WBP optic mount, a sig romeo red dot a jmac RRD east german furniture for the handguard and pistol grip making it look like a mockup east german mpki of sorts brown bulgarian poly mags ftw
I'm going to go with 16 as only 5 or less really cost anything and the rest should come with an AK or at least they used to and the others you will need This is assuming it's an imported rifle or a build using millitary parts or 7.62x39 WBP parts and a military CHF CL barrel. 1. Good mount and optic (I love comblock optics and wish PA or someone would make an good magnified prism optic for an AK that has soviet looks. 2. (Free) Use the standard imported FCG that came with the gub or kit or get one aftermarket they can be cheap, if you do a kind or "AR armours" type of trigger job that can involve putting some welds donwn then correctly honing and polishing everything you can get it just as good as a KLG, it may take time but it's pretty much free and won't hangup or peen, keep the Shepard's hook just modify it a little so it's trigger or use C clips for the pins but I hate using plates and they do add weight. 3. (Free) I like to put a little plastic under the factory safety where it would usually scratch the paint, not to protect it but it just makes it smoother, have to use the right plastic that's thin and just a little super glue, if it's your thing get an aftermarket or just rivet on an upgraded one but I don't like the bolt hold open safety's. 4. (Can be just a few dollars) I like to hone down the front sight post and use an RPK rear sight then get 2 different colours of watchmakers glow paint or I guess even tritium tubes but I just stick to paint and paint the front sight post one color then around the RPK rear sight notch paint it a different color or just standard rear sight 5. I am a purist so wedge some pic raid between the handguard or inlet the wood to accept 1 M lock slot for a flashlight. 6. Use yugo BHO followers on good steel or other comblock mags. 7. Use good surplus or new comblock furniture, if you want a side folding stock get a steel triangle folder. For a non folder I like standard milspec plywood in shellac. WBP makes good wood and some of the US Zastava furniture seems fine but it's made for hardwood. 8. Bayonette 9. Remove all stupid 922r parts and replace with originals if you can and if it's suited to your needs, if it's a wasr get a new piston and rivet. As a welded piston is no good. All the parts to restore a war back is only a few bucks from centerfire systems. 10. If you want to paint your wasr or new gun (if it needs extra protection I would not do it to a Zastava or a nice import) KG gun koat in AK black. 11. I'm fine with any non-stupid muzzle device I prefer an imported slant break on a 7.62 but whatever you use if it has a retaining pin you can find it down so it fits without any wiggle or rattle. 12. cleaning capsual and the cleaning rod is always handy but use a boresnake. 13. For oil just use synthetic engine oil and grease depending on your environment and needs, cleaning solvents, any will do, corrosive ammo hot soapy water. I keep them in small bottles but surplus ones are good. 15. A nice leather or canvas comblock NOS or surplus sling if you need it. 16. A spare firing pin, extractor. Extractor spring, extractor pin and firing pin retainer. Make sure your recoil spring is in spec.
A 2-3 lb. icicle break trigger is what I'm used to and what I miss on my AK, even with it's ALG trigger. Would the Meridian Defense give me what I long for? I'd be stoked with a 2lb. carrot break. Beautiful wood on that AK btw.
I love it. Except now I have to buy stuff for mine, LOL. Have you considered a Prism sight with an etched reticle instead of the dot sight? If the battery fails in the prism, then the etched sight is still good to go.
I just got one the utg mounts (they’re cheap) for my optic. Haven’t tested if it will hold zero. And it’s a sob to slide onto my factory wasr rail. The wasr 10 is the greatest invention ever to be created by humans! Change my mind 😂
my current bits that are on the way are a slip on rubber recoil pad, and a magpul MS1 sling the next thing im lookin at are a an adjustable piston and a Pic siderail mount and then decide on an optic (at some point i wanna get a PSO just cuz the collector in me will be pleased), sadly i cant get anything in terms of muzzle device cuz 1: yay illinois and 2: the person who had it before me decided to glue the threads in place (they did that to the front sight assembly too which was horribly out of zero and i had to get a new post) and the romanian Recoil booster with 2 holes drilled into the top is stuck on there. i wouldnt mind it except for the fact that its a look where on a monday im fine with it on a tuesday i hate it
He generally suggests that it would depend on how far the ammunition is ejected. His older videos discuss this. Most people suggest that everything is based on what is your intended use. No matter the firearm, the accessories, if you are going to suppress it, the caliber… blah blah blah. I took my square back MAK90, added a KNS, US Palm grip, wood furniture, polished trigger, and installed hater grater.
How do you mount a light while still maintaining a minimalist appearance? Also, what about attaching a sling? Is that a section cut from a bike inner tube on the pistol grip? This was an excellent video and I hope you make a followup to it.
the only mod i think is 100% needed and i did to all of the ones i had is changing the axis pin retaining wire to a plate first thing id did was order like the red star retaining plate the rest of the mods were for fun but that maybe a cleaning rod if it doesnt have it thats all i can think
Finally, AK mods that the NYET, RIFLE IS FINE crowd can get behind! Also, here's a Pro-Tip to mount a tactical light to ANY Kalashnikov without the need for the decadent, Western Capitalist Scum invention of Pick-At-Teeny rails. 1. Go to your local hardware store. 2. Buy a set of 27-51mm hose clamps. 3. Grab your cheapest but effective SureFire or Streamlight tac light knock-off. 4. Mount it on your gas tube above the barrel on either left or right side (preference how you grip your handguard), if needed, place a small square piece of metal or leather to act as a spacer between it and the tube, even better. 5. ????? 6. PROFIT!
Do you know if there is a non-bolt hold open safety option for the Zastava M70 that you would recommend? I've never thought of the safety as a dust covert but that makes perfect sense.
Myself, I'm in the middle of "No Mods!" and trying to turn it into a freaking AR (ugh). I will say that you, Sir, have put me onto more than one excellent mod. I will always be grateful for your recommendation of the beautiful ALG trigger-love 'em. Great video, and thanks for sharing.
I don't like the people saying that "modernizing" (aka putting rails and slots) on your AK is turning it into an AR. It's so wrong. But having a sleek, sleeper capable AK is indeed a goal for many of us :D
@DaroExplorhater Yeah by that logic modifying any gun is "trying to turn it into an AR" I've never thought that was a good analogy either. Thanks for the kind words dude
I have a m70 Zastava with a binary trigger but I want to add the original safe can that be done? And would you recommend sticking with the binary trigger or meridian defense trigger?
I’ve owned my wasr 10 since 2011. Hands down a beast of a rifle with the traditional look of an early AKM(1975 model). My problem is the binary trigger kit(franklin armory)seems to not work properly, although the same kit is in my chiappa pak9 which runs great. I’d love to get it tuned into a smooth glugger for a poor mans select fire. But dont want to pay a gunsmith, any suggestions?
The ultimak railed gad tube is easier to install. It's been around a long time works very well. Downside is it gets extremely hot. I've never cooked an optic before but people claim to. The iron sight replacement mount looks very clean in my opinion. There are some really good options out there as well but kind of a pain to install if you've never done it before.
I Bought a Riley Defence Mag Pull Edition. (RAK47-MP). I upgraded, recoil spring to an alg spring, and have an Alg -ul trigger, krebs left saftey, tws hobb knob, jmac 360 brake, MWI side mount , Holosun 510c GR, and a zukhov folding stock and a houge grip. Think i did ok?
So it you were looking into picking up an AK - what would you recommend? Ironically I just ended up being given an old MAC-90 from the 1990s. Only takes 5 round magazines.
My Top 5 Low Key AK Mods:

I’m getting a WBP 5.56. Do you think it’s worth shooting the rifle for a bit before getting the KNS? Thanks bro
3) I recommend Midwest industries mount. Very solid
I'm pinning this. Really good subtle list.
Thanks Klay, I'm truly flattered! 👍 I gotta join you for questions on your live stream again. They are loads of fun! 🔥

Exactly all those full length handgaurds and gucci rear stocks just turn your Ak into a 10 lb rifle real fast

@thenutcracker3393 that's awesome to hear dude I'm glad you found the videos helpful.
1) PK-01VS red dot optic
2) Polish the trigger friction surfaces to make it smooth
3) AK-103 muzzle device
4) KNS Piston
5) Zenitco B10 lower front grip.
I'd stick to factory wood AKM stock for better balance and it's strong.
Giving your AK secrets away for free? Damn you are absolutely awesome! Thanks!
Also a good mod is to rubberize the metal plate on the back of the stock. You can do that with wooden, plastic and triangle stocks and it definetely helps shoulder your rifle.
just wanted to type that lul.
Safety tip super useful. Your affinity for AKs is legit. Thank you!
Really want to try a Meridian trigger but 2 pounds is WAY too light for my tastes. I don't like going below a 4lb trigger on any semi auto rifle. Just too light for me.
Agree. For what it's worth, on Meridian's website, the trigger is listed as being 3.5 to 3.8 pounds.
Romanian dong with Mlok Rail on the weak side is something I would add to complement the "factory" look while keeping it highly scalable (for a light thumb activated for exemple), and the dong allows for a "better" prehension and recoil management (though on an KNS tuned AK, it's not *that* important).
Inset M-Lok on wood fore ends is so awesome and classy.
I've got an AMD-65 with a KNS piston and once you get it tuned properly the difference is night and day, that's probably the go-to first mod in my opinion
Zastava’s side mount is really solid as well.
And just like that just like that all the K&S Pistons are sold out everywhere! 😅😅😅
Spot on about the side rail. My philosophy with AKs has always been: have side rail, will mount.
MI Mounts are dog water. I'm sorry you even bought that smoking pile of crap.
I like the buffer pads, people shit on them but the shorter cycle makes my brain happy
I know they have slap on pad and a Packmer Decellerator pad is tops no limb saver dude Packmyer had this Down for 50 yrs.

I put a QD socket on the side of my wooden stock. Fight me
I screwed picatinny into my wooden handguard. Fight me.
I mean, it's not necessarily the worst thing but it does potentially create weak points where the wood could crack from an impact.
😂 nice
That's hilarious you the man ♂️
Been thinking on that with my wood stock on my shotgun.
I been into AK's since mid 2k's this is prob the best AK video I've seen that I can remember. That thing FUUUCKS and still looks great!
I was at my company Christmas party,I made sure and set an alarm to get my tickets the minute they dropped, I was successful I can’t wait either!!!
One of my favorites is the Rifle Dynamics safety nub. Thing is barely noticable, but it makes a huge difference without being an obnoxious ledge.
Thank you Klayco47! Keep it going man! You and rob ski need to make video together. Your content is very informative and incredibly helpful. Thank you again.
my top 3 upgrades are:
a KNS pistion (put that ish on everything)
RS Regulate microdot
ALG trigger.
i also run mine with a side folder in a 35" bag.

Only go to's are an attero mount for whatever optic I have on hand, alg ul trigger. Everything else depends on the purpose and vision for the rifle/pistol.

👍 on the factory safety for sure!
Well come, I am happy see you again!
Stock AK that looks like it came out of hibernation from a Soviet armory is the sexiest AK, change my mind.
Dude, learning so much from you! I'm about to pimp my WBP pretty soon! Greetings from PL :)
Great video, what's the optic that you have on this AK? Looks pretty cool.
Right now ive got a primary arms 3x micro prism on the master mount on my zastava m70 zpap
Just ordered a m4 yugo stock adapter and the dead air keymo flash hider
Plan to order: alg trigger , a light mount, extended saftey and dead air wolverine
Love the look of the SRO with wood and bakelite.+ stock trigger. (The other look I like is the railed top cover with EOTECH)
I have a rear sight pic rail that has a channel cut to retain a rear iron while still mounting a dot. Only thing I don't like is the height over bore but it's a small sacrifice
Love the look of a sleeper AK build. Just got a wasr10 and I’m thinking of taking it this route.
Just get a kit from centerfire systems to de- 922r it, then get some good surplus wood.
Just got all Romanian wood, she’s coming together!
a krebs enhanced safety is a must have for me personally.
Colonel Sanders is pumped for KB.
Don't forget an ALG recoil spring and a good Shepards plate!!! Mcarbo also makes a dope recoil spring
Just started the vid and I will say my top 5 mods that don’t change the look much are
1. ALG combat trigger
2. KNS adjustable trigger
3. Muzzle break
4. Side mounted rail with rds
5. Larger grip because my hands are big
Honorable mention: extended safety lever
Love the piston.
One thing i would change is that lower handgaurd. that metal pin is evil 😂
Love the way that AK looks. Who makes it?
I guessed all but the piston. I thought you were gonna say the rail and sight were separate. The safety is a bit of a cheat to get to 5 ;)
Good stuff.
My top preferites mods...krebs safety and retaining pin, krebs peep sights...still looking like but huge improvements
❤ did you put on an oversized mag release?
Love the look.
1) gas piston, on my list
2) mount and rail, on my list
3) tuned the safety already
4) oversized mag release
5) trigger, on my list
Had to change the p.g. due to hand size, factory is just way too small.
Ah, that's a replacement from M+M. I've mentioned it another videos it's really designed for loose magwels. If you have really wobbly mags it leans a little more into the mag adding more tension
Love my RS Regulates.
I called all the mods, but to be fair I have been subbed for a bit.
on my SHTF ak
I have a cheese grater upper hand guard
a texas weapons systems hinged dust cover with a basic sig romeo red dot
a texas weapons systems peep site for if/when my dot eats doodoo
a khybercustomes flashlight mount

a jmac rrd slim 4 for the break
a romanian wirefolder stock

and an alg trigger
a wbp extended safety selector

Yes it does, there is a rear notch on the mount. You lose elevation adjustment but it works just as well as the rear most 0-300m leaf sight setting.

I don’t like AR style iron sights but I really like AK irons. I run optics on my ars but I like my ak clean up top for both aesthetics and usefulness
You're getting great Acoustic resonance relief 👹
What about tally marks on the stock? One line for every AR guy that says AKs suck because HE can't hit anything with it.
Another informative vid. Good job klay.
You know what brand steel targets are those ? How far are you from it?
Ultimak rails are awesome
my current bits that are on the way are a slip on rubber recoil pad, and a magpul MS1 sling
the next thing im lookin at are a an adjustable piston and a Pic siderail mount and then decide on an optic (at some point i wanna get a PSO just cuz the collector in me will be pleased), sadly i cant get anything in terms of muzzle device cuz 1: yay illinois and 2: the person who had it before me decided to glue the threads in place (they did that to the front sight assembly too which was horribly out of zero and i had to get a new post) and the romanian Recoil booster with 2 holes drilled into the top is stuck on there. i wouldnt mind it except for the fact that its a look where on a monday im fine with it on a tuesday i hate it
God bless klayco47 top tier in the community
I need to get a ChiCom just to have one. Awesome vid. 👍
Best chest rig for the money
Klay, would you suggest running a K & S piston, even if you are shooting unsuppressed ?
He generally suggests that it would depend on how far the ammunition is ejected. His older videos discuss this. Most people suggest that everything is based on what is your intended use. No matter the firearm, the accessories, if you are going to suppress it, the caliber… blah blah blah. I took my square back MAK90, added a KNS, US Palm grip, wood furniture, polished trigger, and installed hater grater.
I like the LBE Triggers since I found the ALGs a little too light for my taste.
I would like to see how to get a flashlight on it without changing a ton of factory features of the ak
Look up the CDM gear ak light mount
How do you mount a light while still maintaining a minimalist appearance? Also, what about attaching a sling? Is that a section cut from a bike inner tube on the pistol grip? This was an excellent video and I hope you make a followup to it.
Rs regulate makes a good barrel clamp light mount. CDm gear makes a really good one too.
Love that SRO+RS mount…….Been wanting to do that ,I’m just busy/Lazy 😂
the only mod i think is 100% needed and i did to all of the ones i had is changing the axis pin retaining wire to a plate first thing id did was order like the red star retaining plate the rest of the mods were for fun but that maybe a cleaning rod if it doesnt have it thats all i can think
The sleeper builds are dope but I really like the look of the Zastava you had in the Meridian trigger video. That was peak aesthetic in my opinion.
APOLOGIES. The Trigger Empire video, not Meridian.
Ahh the M90. Yeah it's got a good look to it
UTG recoil pad , bd2 muzzle break , alg trigger , kns piston for me .
Extra power recoil spring? Bolt buffer pad?
I love side rail.
Great video. Can you tell us what model of AK yours is? Thank you.
Because options for those are slim akm selectors can be made to work
This.
@@KLAYCO47 I'll look into it. Thanks bro!!
Appreciate the recommendations
That meridian defense trigger is so good on my new pestilence 74 I tried to order one for my zpap92 and already sold out. 😂
I have an ak that doesn’t have a side optics mount but I’d like a red dot on it. Do you recommend the gas tube replacement or the rear sight mount?
The ultimak railed gad tube is easier to install. It's been around a long time works very well. Downside is it gets extremely hot. I've never cooked an optic before but people claim to. The iron sight replacement mount looks very clean in my opinion. There are some really good options out there as well but kind of a pain to install if you've never done it before.
@ thanks big dawg👊
You rock dude,excellent
I Bought a Riley Defence Mag Pull Edition. (RAK47-MP). I upgraded, recoil spring to an alg spring, and have an Alg -ul trigger, krebs left saftey, tws hobb knob, jmac 360 brake, MWI side mount , Holosun 510c GR, and a zukhov folding stock and a houge grip. Think i did ok?
You did awesome
So it you were looking into picking up an AK - what would you recommend? Ironically I just ended up being given an old MAC-90 from the 1990s. Only takes 5 round magazines.
It all just depends on what your budget is because there is a wide range.
What would you recommend to mount my banish 30 suppressor to my psa gf3 ak. Direct thread
will you review the 762 WBP Jack?
Don’t have an AK but loved the video 👍🏼
thanks for sharing great information
Thanks
Full auto or semi auto safety ? Preference ?
