It's wonderful that you have found faith. The Lord is kind and merciful. I love to hear all the inspirational stories of the lives of how people come to God. I am so very happy for you.
This is a great start, but I encourage you to go further. Catholicism is a steppingstone to Christianity, but it is not Christianity but you must pick up a Bible and read it to understand what I’m saying. I was born into a Catholic family and raised Catholic and it wasn’t until I was in my late 20s and started reading a Bible that I realized Catholicism is not Christianity at all. It is, the Roman Catholic Church. I won’t get into details, but I will just say this pick up a Bible and say a prayer to God to fill you with discernment and to guide you where he needs you and just start reading and your eyes will open just put it all in God‘s hands, and he will get to work on you. Don’t say the Catholic Church is a bad thing because I was raised in a Catholic family and it is what brought me to Christ but it is the reading of the Bible that made me realize I couldn’t stop it Catholicism because that’s not really Christianity. it is the Catholic Church controlling people telling them that it is Christianity as long as they do what the Catholic Church says, but the Catholic churches monstrosity and would probably disgust Jesus for how it has misinformed and misslead how many people to a parallel path to Christianity that looks like Christianity to anyone who’s never walked the path of Christianity so please continue seeking God and continue your journey, but trusting God and read your Bible. Jesus came to abolish religion, and when he said “it is finished” he absolutely meant it. Christianity is a deeply personal relationship with Jesus there should be no church in between you and Jesus. The church is supposed to be like a community and a family that you follow Jesus with it is not a power structure or some form of leadership to substitute for Jesus. And it is blasphemous for Catholic priest to tell people that they can forgive their sins when only God and the blood of Christ can forgive sin. I could go on an exposé about the practice of blast for you in the Catholic Church, but I will just encourage you to pick up a Bible and read it yourself and look into why the Catholic Church is not considered Christian by so many but I’m not trying to show you from your journey. You are off to a great start if it encourages you to pick up a Bible. Put your faith in God not the catholic church.
You can tell he was a really great orator and writer. Roman North Africa produced some very significant figures, Carthage was a really important city. Its pretty amazing how well it reads from 1600 years ago, though the classical world is known to have produced some excellent works, Plato's Republic also reads very fluidly. He's very hard on himself in the book, the last part as well I got really into, on the more philosophical questions and why he doesnt believe on a literal 7 day creation. Augustine understood christianity extremly well I think and his influence has been immense. It also marks a very important time with the ending of the classical world and the start of the early middle ages. There was a lot of chaos and upheaval towards the end but Augustine argued that yes it was true, but it would be heaven that would be the ultimate salvation.
Confessions is one of the best books I've ever read. I find that we like very similar books on the faith. You're doing great work exposing such wonderful gems to new audiences. God bless you Elizabeth!
Nice that you have set up this channel! I was learning for my exam for philosophy where I have to analyse the first book of Augustine’s' Confessions. After searching for a book summary on TH-cam, I came across your channel. Although I haven't found deep analysis material about core points, I have been inspired by your honest opinion and experience of the book. I also decided to actually reread the first book and make notes myself after watching your video. As a Catholic myself, I directly subscribed to your channel after having read your mission statement. I saw some video covers of yours discussing books that I am interested in reading. I especially like the idea of an academic student, and a Catholic, who reviews interesting books in honesty and understanding. Most channels that I watch, such as Pints with Aquinas, already speak out of knowledge. Therefore, it is good to have a student also speaking about these topics from their personal perspective.
"Confessions" is one of my favorite books and I only recently finished it! I am now a big fan of his writing! I'm currently going through "City of God." I recommend that one too. Yes, the philosophical parts can be strong, but I loved grappling with every word! Great review!
I bought a double volume of City of God and look forward to reading it. For those interested in St. Augustine's philosophy, I would like to recommend a philosopher that he read--Plotinus, whose writings on "The One" made me a believer!
I appreciate your comments on the Confessions. I feel you and you say sometimes we get discouraged of reading of, because it is complicated. I have felt the same, we cannot rush through it if we wanna capture the ideas of Augustine.
Thank you very much for your detailed summary and review. I'm not Catholic, but I'm very interested in studying some of the most famous and influential works in the history of Christianity. This introduction will help me jump into the book myself! Take care and God bless you.

I started to read it long ago and gave up on it. May try it again, although I frown on theologically tainted attempts to explain reality. Good job, though, and nice tone of voice. Thanks. If you read Spanish, then you have the real tone of voice. For a definition, start with, in English, INITIATION COURSE INTO LOGOSOPHY. A you can see,, the translation is decicient. Thanks for the recommendation! Confessions might not be the best book to start with if you "frown on theologically tainted attempts to explain reality". How about "Mere Christianity"?
Grew up in the Lutheran Church. Found it oppressive. At age 22, gave up on it and started studying philosophy. More pleasurable, but a lot of theory and debate and no indication of what to do to be good. Logosophy is entirely practical. You find out what to do.
