    James Arness said in an interview that he watched Gunsmoke on his TV every day religiously. I bet watching not only made him feel younger but also triggered many a good memory of friends on the set of 'Gunsmoke'....

    I grew up watching Gunsmoke, I've always loved cowboys ! I'm 70 now, but still watch Gunsmoke on TVland & here (youtube.) Thanks..to whomever uploads these Gunsmoke episodes. Anyone & everyone who created Gunsmoke, a grand, big "Thank You !" Loved marshall Dillon & all its charcters. They were like my family, I know it may sound silly to some of you. But to a lonely 10 yr old girl.....pretending was a way to escape the horrible present. I couldn't wait, every Saturday night @ 8pm, I was eager to watch Gunsmoke, Marshall Dillon, Chester, Kitty,Doc, & Quint,Sam, Louie & later Festus,Newly, Thad,etc loved them all.I miss Matt !! RIP!

    Within the past few months, I started getting into watching the old episodes of Gunsmoke. The TV Land channel on cable runs episodes every weekday afternoon. I was only 3 years old when the show went off the air, so I'm discovering those classic Western shows for the first time. I'm really getting into it and enjoying them. I think it's safe to say nobody could've played the role of Matt Dillon quite like James did. R.I.P. James, and a huge thanks to TV Land for keeping Gunsmoke alive and well for future generations.

    I started listening to Gunsmoke on the radio sitting on my Dad's lap at a time when a radio stood 4 feet tall and took up a corner of a room. Later, when the show became televised I thrived on the episodes so much so that even today I watch an episode or 2 every night before I go to sleep. For some reason the world was a better place when this show was first produced and the family of characters is comforting to me to spend time with each evening........My Best to ALL of our friends here who feel the same way......God Bless You All~!

TCM is my "go to" channel when it comes to films and I especially like the 40s and 50s fare. Then there are the westerns. Favorite westerns are typically those that most people my age like: Shane, Liberty Valance, The Searchers and Big Country......Any of the EARLY John Wayne Films before things like McLIntock, Big Jake or Cowboys. Also big fan of Randolph Scott, Joel McCrea, James Stewart, Glenn Ford, Henry Fonda, Robert Mitchum and Lee Marvin.

      +Giacomo Ferrario :: Whaw, he must a big man if you see him standing with others. I like the Western vids better than other vids. of crime. I love the witty mannerism once they get going. Sadly, all swallowed up by time. There are still so many to watch; Bonanza etc. etc. Missed watching them when I was still working. Thxs to Tube I can watch them as I please.

      @chasptrs.4922 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Giacomo Ferrario:: Hey. that's something I did not know about Arness, being wounded in war. He's a big man and the Germans "hit" his "foot" ? Very "bad" shooting, just as well. Thxs for the info. I've seen the clip of Wayne promoting the show. They were both big men, I thought. Sadly, no more good "country" movies. My TV has not been turned on for 9 yrs. Watched it 3 x times when I first bought it, so it's still new. It's an Old, yet New TV. It will stay new after 200 yrs. You reckon I'd still be around ? Methuselah reached 969 years.

      Only if you were a WASP (White Anglo Saxon Protestant) and male. Which I am. But, with the benefit hindsight, I can see that if you weren't fortunate enough to be born a WASP you were faced with discrimination to varying degrees. But of course you can't lay blame on us WASP's for that. It was just an historical "fact of life". We were brought up that way and thought it was just the natural order of things. As kids we were just not aware that it could be any other way. Another thing most of us were not really aware of was the ever present danger of nuclear holocaust. To most kids it just didn't register on the "things to worry about" list. Which was probably a good thing.

    • @burkewhb
      @burkewhb 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was a little boy in the 1950's, born in New York City, and I wasn't a WASP, I was Irish Catholic, and I never had a problem with kids that were Protestant. In fact, I married a Protestant. She was Methodist and we got along great. People like James Cagney, Jackie Gleason, etc. made all that anti-Catholic crap from the previous century disappear by the 1950's. Even John F. Kennedy managed to get elected president in 1960 without being a WASP.

    World War II veteran, he was discovered by John Wayne who gave him many roles in Wayne's films in the late 40's. Played the title character in The Thing. Was cast as Matt Dillon on John Wayne's suggestion. Wayne was offered to role first but said to give it to Arness and the rest was history!

    I watch Gunsmoke every day. It's on almost all day on different channels. I've decided that what America needs is a few hundred thousand Matt Dillons to straighten shit out around here.

    James Arness was an accomplished downhill skier, this may not be widely known. Good guy.

    I watched Gunsmoke as a young kid with my family. We were all huge fans. My favorites were the 30 minute episodes with Dennis Weaver as "Chester Goode". I'm retired now so I DVR those episodes every weekday on METV.

    Even as a kid it always appeared that "Doc" was a pain in the ass and took away from the show. It seemed there were many other actors who could have contributed more. We sure never missed the show though! Thanks for the video!

    Poor man! They made his eye brows so unnaturally dark as well as his hair most of the time. He is one of my very favourite actors. I watch his Gunsmoke show EACH and every day. Thank you!

    Gunsmoke was an awesome western show, The entire cast was magnificent, Matt Dillon played by James Arness was one of the ALL-TIME greatest characters in TV history, Though my favorite was Doc Adams played by Milburn Stone, But they were all great, Gunsmoke may have been the greatest show ever, 20 years on the air, That says something!

    I was 8 years old when the 2 part episode "The River" aired. I fondly remember wishing I could ride the river with Marshall Matt Dillon. That truly was the golden age of television. I have an autographed photo of James Arness and the only thing I value more than that is the Bible my mother gave to me. R.I.P. Jim Arness. You left the world a better place.

    No one could play Matt like James did. The actors are all great. I’ve been watching gun smoke since I was a kid. Thank you for all the great memories.
