I hope the captain was all right. Gastroenteritis is an occupational hazard of frequent travellers but "grey and clammy" together with severe abdominal pain has me also worrying about heart trouble.
Sometimes the symptoms can be tricky so you treat the patient as if they had a coronary incident. Heartburn is normally a pain from the esophageal area, higher up as stomach acid gets past the sphincter at the top of the stomach and into tissue not designed to deal with it. In the old days you would put nitroglycerin tabs under the tongue and if the pain decreased you believed the patient was having heart symptoms but then it was found that the drug also helped relieve heartburn or stomach reflux. This gentleman is very likely experiencing angina due to an insufficient flow of oxygenated blood being fed to the heart muscle for many reasons, arterial spasm, emboli or a buildup of plague. Grey clammy skin followed by pain on the left side of the chest to the neck and shoulder. I hope he did well and this episode was more of a warning that a full blown infarction that destroys part of the heart tissue. Very well handled by caring professionals. As a whole humans aren't so bad after all.
I had Gastroenteritis several years a ago. It is no joke. "Severe abdominal cramps", is not a little tummy ache. I was in the ER being given pain meds. Good thing they got this on the ground and not halfway across the Atlantic.

Excellent communication by both parties. Interestingly, there is a great deal of confusion about what is going to happen, but both people involved make it clear what the immediate situation is.
Love all the "doctor" comments on here. She gave the symptoms passed on to ground medical crew. There was probably other communication going on between ground medical crew and those helping the captain, but f not the FO priority is getting the plane and passengers back to the gate safely whilst communicating with the tower. My only complaint about the video was expecting animación of the image to show the movement of the plane as it made its way back to the gate.!!!!😊

+Arcadiez All of these systems are also optional of course but the difference is that they will have an economical advantage for the aircraft especially the ECU or they will have an advantage for the passengers. Very few airlines have HUDs installed that are not 787 or A350 operators and the airlines that do have have them only have them installed on the Captain's side which is another cost saving decision. When you take into consideration all the extra actuators, valves and control cables etc and all the additional maintenance that will need to be carried out to maintain this, it will turn into a costly option especially when it is only needed on the ground which is where airlines want their aircraft to spend the least amount of time. Also because its aviation components so everything has a few zeros added onto the price.
I was impressed with the First Officer as well as the excellent response from the tower controller. I haven't looked up the details as yet, but it's clear he had a heart infarction, all the classic symptoms. It's a tough situation because of the time needed to get the man off the aircraft. Nothing was said but there has to be the equipment to assist the FAs in keeping him alive such as a defibulattoer and oxygen. I hope he recovered well and was able to get back to London for further treatment.
They may have had an AED aboard but the first officer wouldn't be treating the captain. It would have to be someone else maybe one of the relief crew people. The FO was moving the plane

Yes, but no mention of chest pain, only GI disturbance with severe pain. Never had an MI myself but I've never heard of the associated pain being in the stomach and GI path instead of the chest.
Grey and clammy doesn't sound like gastro, unless he has rapidly lost fluid and in hypovolemic shock -?? heart or Triple A that is leaking, though kidney stones in males has known to cause a grey look as the pain is +++ or would be other emergent condition. Would be surprised if the Dx came back as Gastro but anything is possible!
my replay is a bit late :) She said we tried to call our employees in the airport, but they didnt replay. so she is calling company to contact british airways employees who are in the same airport this way its easier to coordnate their passengers hope this makes sense :))
ACARS is a system aircraft use to communicate with the airline. The airline sends them routes, weight and fuel data, and weather through it. They are also able to communicate to atc for some clearances and information, and to send and receive text messages from the airline.
Thanks, but I already know what ACARS is. I just wanted to know what that noise meant? It sounded to me like the radio made a tone to notify the pilot of something?
@@Manusoftarhiba grey and clammy are a classic presentation of poor cardiac output, either obstruction or hemorrhage. Another classic symptom is upper GI pain. Pain from heart attack can sometimes feel like heart burn. There's not really anything GI related that would cause a person to go clammy AND grey, except maybe a GI bleed.

This is the reason why BOTH pilots MUST have a possibility to taxi their plane back to the gate. What would happen if the captain was very obese and f/o would not be able to taxi from her seat? All the girls from the crew would be struggling to move the unconcious captain and waste time? Not good.
The FO can control the plane from their seat, including taxiing, in fact she could have flown the whole flight by herself if needed. The reason they needed both pilots is because the 777 is a two crew aircraft, they can't legally fly with only one pilot on board.

Every commercial pilot in the UK is required to undergo and pass an EASA Class 1 medical before being deemed fit to fly and then they will do them again every so often to make sure everything is still ok.

The flight plans have an expiration time. The ATC lengthened the flight plan expiration time so they could depart with some delay.

they had no replacement crew and it was a crew of 1 captain and 1FO, the flight was grounded

Exactly my father's symptoms. Abdominal pain is a common symptom of impending circulatory collapse; blood pools in the mesenteric veins.

You cant rule out a heart attack though! It's best to assume that's what it is until ruled out
