If there is ever a song that screams 70s. This is one, simple yet effective. Great songwriting and vocals. MUSIC I tell you, music! Much love and respect always.!.
As far as childhood memories of songs of the 70's this is near the top for me. A pure classic. You're digging into the classic early 70's feel and I'm digging it! BJ Thomas and Paper Lace up next. Another one from then that has big time feels for me is The Night The Lights Went Out in Georgia by Vicki Lawrence. All big radio hits that I'll cherish forever. Thank you.
I was 5 when this song was on the radio. I was too young to know it's meaning but us kids loved it because we would sing " We had joy We had fun We had seasons in the sun, But the cops with their guns Shot us in the buns"
Yep. It was about death and the connection to life itself. Hopefully , we all have some great connections that make life worth living ..........but that does come with the sadness of an ending .
Based on the song Le Moribond by Jacques Brel which is full of love, betrayal and contempt. This version is flat, sentimentalised and light in my opinion. There is a version of the Brel song on youtube with English subtitles. If you listen to that you'll see what I mean.
The original by Jacques Brel (Le Moribond) is far more ironic and is in fact a goodbye to his wife but her lover too. Brel often poked fun/sneered at social pretence. Jacks turned the song into a tearjerker while Brel's version was more up-tempo and had a more sunny approach to dying. Regrets, sure, but everybody was supposed to dance and sing at the funeral.
I think your Girlfriends right mate talking about "Death"...cause the lyrics does say "Goodbye my friend its hard to DIE" and he mentions the word "DIE" in each of the 3people he sings about..jst saying.
Great reaction to a good song.. If you get a chance please react to John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band. Garden of Eden, Just a Matter of Time, Maryia just to name a few..
It was always on the radio in my childhood in Hungary ('70s-'80s).
@@Hi-kq1vi Yes, "Sailing" :D It's on my tracklist in the car nowadays, too :)
Unfortunatley its about dying. He says in the song Goodbye its hard to die. He is saying goodbye to his loved ones. Great song.

Love Terry Jacks, I am quite good friends with his ex-wife Susan Jacks.... I love when Terry and Susan were The Poppy Family!

No question he says it himself it's hard to die so he is preparing to leave this world. and saying goodbye to everything he knew in his life.
This is an adaptation of Le Moribond by Jacques Brel.

It`s a sad song. He was actually dying and had to leave.
The version of The Fortunes is better in my opinion
This isn't the original song. It's a cover.
Moriband is the original song.
