These comments are great.I thought I was the only one who was obsessed when this came out. Thought I was the only one who held a cassette recorder next to the TV. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who remembers all of the words.
i only saw this episode once as a kid and it haunted me. this song impacted my damn life and i have been searching for it for at least 30 years. thank you!
It's amazing how we all shared this experience . I don't think I have ever been impacted piece on television the way this did when I watched this at 10 or so years old
Che storia, vidi l'episodio quando ero piccolo e mi spaventò moltissimo. Ora è uno dei pochi che ricordo della serie, e sono andato a cercarlo dopo più di trent'anni, come altri...
The lyrics are so powerful. Doris' describing what Lisa must have experienced dying but not being able to move on. Lisa's describing Doris becoming aware of and accepting of Lisa's existence where all others dismissed even the possibility of her existence.
Out of all the all the shows that have been aired on TV since Fame. There has not been another show that captured the essence or vibe that Fame had. Fame was the only show that I have always had a passion for. No other show has caught the meaning of living your dream, and the hard work that you have to put in to get what it costs.
A magnificent song, truly one of the most mature and haunting of the show. A rare incidence that a guest should sing... I still believe Christie Houser would have made a fine addition to the cast. Her voice is mesmerizing and she complements Landsburg's beautifully. thanks for posting the song.
She should have done another guest shot as a student. Doris would see her and get a feeling that she knows her from somewhere. Then she would hear the student say that she had an aunt that died while a student at the school. Her mother would tell her that legend was that she could not RIP until she gave a final performance. Then it hits Doris like a ton of bricks. OMG, that Lisa's niece.
Like everyone else I remember this episode and it has to be one of the most beautiful sequences I've ever seen. Their voices just compliment each other and the music is just perfect, you don't see anything like this anymore.
I am so happy some one put this up It is truly a beautiful song and it never leaves you I'm 40 years old and I watched this when it first aired and still remember every word and it still gives me chills when I here it beautiful and haunting at the same time the whole episode was superb. wish I could find it somewhere.
I REMEMBER, YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS AT SCHOOL, WATCHING THIS EPISODE, AND LOVING THE SONG SO MUCH, THAT I SANG IT IN MUSIC THE NEXT DAY. THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH, BEEN HUNTING FOR THIS FOR YEARS.
This is my Favorite part! I lost my mom. Back in Dec 9 ,2017 the same year I almost lost my life in March of 2017 . but this episode reminds me a lot of my mom especially the lady in the mirror looks just like my mom
How delightful finally to hear this song again; and how interesting to see I was far from being the only person hunting for it all this time! Someone ought to "cover" it. I can think of several current vocalists who could give it a really good go...how about Ms Landsburg herself, if she releases another album?
It's so great to read about all the people who feel the same way about this episode and song. I still remember all the lyrics as well. Somewhere in my basement I think I have an audio tape recorded from the tv. Wow. Brings me back and makes me want to start digging through my old vhs'!
I love this episode. The season 3 episodes had some of the very best songs of FAME. I've had this song on a little cassette for years and years and to this day still listen to it over and over. Its beautiful.
Absolutely the same as everyone, about remembering this song and episode. It came on soon after I lost a very good friend. To this day this song brings him so clearly in my mind. Bless you for uploading this song. The strange thing is I had a empty cassette and my sister's cassette player nearby and actually taped this song. It is old and starting to wobble. I really appreciate this. I'll listen to it everyday. Warm Wishes, Ruby*
This episode has always haunted me. I remember being leery of mirrors for awhile. LOL! Man, I've always loved this song, and am so glad to have found it again.
Still creeps me out: Debbie Allen 'Child what color are your eyes?' Doris (in the other girls voice) 'Her eyes are brown, my eyes are blue, we're both here' Loved that song, that episode.
I'm getting a little "misty" in the eyes thinking about this episode and how I felt when I 1st saw it. What has really wowed me the most is how many people feel the sam way I feel about this episode & song. To the poster I must echo my fellow youtubers & simply say - THANK YOU!!!!
An add on about Fame and this song Lisa's song or Shadows and Light... Fame. The school puts on a production of "The Gypsy Queen", a play that has a weird reputation for being haunted but most of the students find very little to interest them and think the play is dull and boring. However, strange things begin to happen to Doris who is playing the lead in the play. The ghost Lisa's ill fated play was in 1918. Original air date in U.S. was on February 18th 1984. The U.K. May 18th 1984. Lisa played by Christie Houser. Doris played by Valerie Landsberry. Song written by Sue Sheridan and Barry Faswan? Not sure of his last name spelling. Story by Karen Davies Directed by Debbie Allen. Season 3, episode 14.
I find this one of the best sequences I can think of with the perfect harmonies between the two singers. I wonder if the song for this sequence was written specifically for this part or adapted from some place else. Either way it is sublime and beautiful.
OMG! I can't believe I finally found this!! THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! This is my most favorite episode! My cousin used the have ALL the shows on vhs tape. I would steal them and watch them all the time. I wish I knew where those tapes are now. :( I know a 'new ' FAME is coming out, but it will never be better than the original!! I miss this show. Thank you again for this song and the memories!!
After all these years, I still remember watching this the first time, and still remember the words to the song… I’ve often thought of this specific episode.
@ladyklynne1970 , it always haunted me too. I'm so glad that it can be seen again. I so wished I could hear it over and over when I was a girl. No DVR then. LOL!
At times when I'm alone (since I can't sing a lick LOL) this song would come to mind and I'd sing it just to sing it. I'm so glad to find it on here, as well as all the other songs from the show that I love!
wow, i can`t believe it is a year since i last tried to search for this lovely song, but it must be. i used to have it audio song, but handed a bundle of tapes into a charity shop, without remembering to re-copy this one song!!! so amazing that so many other remember and love it. is just a really sophisticated song, that anyone listening, would never believe came from Fame. really haunting, and it takes me back to my schooldays. thanks you from yet another friend!
How unfair to release season 1 on DVD and then decide to not release anything else. I lived on FAME as a kid growing up and I LOVE it still now as an adult.
I attended a performing arts school very much like Fame, and interacted with students from other performing arts schools, and just about all the ones I spoke to had some kind of a "Ghost story" relating to their school. Ours was "Homer and Sally", this episode was likely based on just such a story :)
Beautiful song, I have always loved it. Brings back the simple days. Even though it was a haunting song. I have been looking for another a barber shop song that had Danny in it. Does anyone know what it was called?
The part when i think danny and her was in hallway and he asked her whats going on and then said doris i thought your eyes were brown she said they are,,she looks an her eyes were blue the color of the dead girls eyes ..
Dang. I never saw this episode. I HAVE to see it. I've only been able to buy the first two seasons. How can you find this episode? Looks like it was in season 3.
doris had gotten the role of the gypsy queen in a play that hadn't been produced in decades due to the untimely death of the former gypsy queen (maybe 50 years prior) who died before she got the chance to perform. afterward, doris began to be "haunted" seeing her reflection in the mirror with one blue eye, one brown (her own). after discussing the phenomena she was experiencing with other students/faculty, she determined that her ghost could only be "exorcised" if the ghost could perform the role as she was meant. and thus, this scene with the ghost dressed as a gypsy.
You can leave ALL of that music in at the end of this song, But you couldn't let "Leroy" say "that's me" At the end of 'man in the mirror" You are cutting the WRONG songs too short!
These comments are great.I thought I was the only one who was obsessed when this came out. Thought I was the only one who held a cassette recorder next to the TV. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who remembers all of the words.
So few forget to give 'props to, #MrsBerg she was the best thing going for that school, she always had what was needed, in this case, her the Medium.
Yes! I was there with the tape recorder as well at some point when it was repeated on tv. Beautiful song that also went great with the story
It's been years since I've seen this and I knew the words and sang along. OMG :D
@@ruthoroshnik3567 👍🏾
I too had a tape recorder and recorded it straight off the TV. Was obsessed with it. Am glad to find I’m not the only one ❤
i only saw this episode once as a kid and it haunted me. this song impacted my damn life and i have been searching for it for at least 30 years. thank you!
I literally had the same experience with this episode. I'm in search of the piano score, now!
Same. I have had the words "are you real or are you just a dream? It seems you're standing close to me" stuck in my head for like 35 years.
It's amazing how we all shared this experience . I don't think I have ever been impacted piece on television the way this did when I watched this at 10 or so years old

Same
This is my favorite Fame's episode. Lisa's story has touched me deeply. The song makes me cry every time I hear it.

I absolutely agree.
The most memorable episode of this series. Haunting in more ways then one. Really deserved a sequel.
My favorite song from fame

What a brilliant episode and a perfect song. Valerie and Christie Mossman's voices go so beautifully together
Every one just know this.
Lisa's song has become Our Song
We are all a part of each now and im very happy to be so.
One of my best friends and I used this song back in 1988 as an audition piece in choir. Loved this! Memories ....

"My eyes are brown, her eyes are blue, her name is Lisa, and she's here."

I'm italian too... and it's the same for me :-)
stuck with me too!
j'aimerais bien revoir l'épisode en entier...
The part when i think danny and her was in hallway and he asked her whats going on and then said doris i thought your eyes were brown she said they are,,she looks an her eyes were blue the color of the dead girls eyes
..
Dang. I never saw this episode. I HAVE to see it. I've only been able to buy the first two seasons. How can you find this episode? Looks like it was in season 3.
I was such a MASSIVE, MASSIVE fan of Kids from Fame, but I don't recall this at all!!!! What was the story?
doris had gotten the role of the gypsy queen in a play that hadn't been produced in decades due to the untimely death of the former gypsy queen (maybe 50 years prior) who died before she got the chance to perform. afterward, doris began to be "haunted" seeing her reflection in the mirror with one blue eye, one brown (her own). after discussing the phenomena she was experiencing with other students/faculty, she determined that her ghost could only be "exorcised" if the ghost could perform the role as she was meant. and thus, this scene with the ghost dressed as a gypsy.
I recorded all the episodes. After Valerie left I sent her a fan letter which she answered with a signed postcard
I didn't know Fame acknowledged the supernatural.
THe Episodes SUposed to Air soon Ovation.
2024
Lisa should have thanked Doris as she faded into the hereafter.
mkl62 I think that was what the song was about thanking Doris.
Why does doris looks like Tina Marie
You can leave ALL of that music in at the end of this song,
But you couldn't let "Leroy" say "that's me" At the end of 'man in the mirror"
You are cutting the WRONG songs too short!
