- I've enhanced the 1975 Week 14 Steelers at Rams game. Recording was in good shape, but it REALLY cleaned up nice with Topaz and Resolve enhancement. WOW. You can see the great before/after screenshots here -- imgbox.com/g/M... -- Only the second half of this game exists as far as I know. My thanks to romelovesdan for providing the DVD files used for this project.
Look at those beautiful RAMS helmets, uniforms and colors. Their helmets had the boss, thicker horns back then. It's a complete abomination what the organization has done to their uniforms.😫😫😫😫😫
Yes, 100% agree. No idea why they ever changed. Many other NFL teams uniforms today are utter abominations as well.
I don't mind the new colors but make it like these thicker horns, in surveys the Rams unies are always top five since 1970s now they're last good job Ram organization way to do your homework, but if ask me we were lucky we have these uniforms ,the new ones, because they were going to put the LA on the helmets they were going to put the new logo on the helmets so I look at it this way I'm lucky to have what I have ,I will not buy the new unies besides the white ones because nobody likes them and then I heard they're going to change them I think all they had to do is just change the horns back to these horns, I like the new blue,
Correct. Today's questionable uniform choices only tells me that only non-football folks have submitted these terrible concepts and are paying big dollars to display them.

Saturday night just before Christmas. Brings back warm feelings of a a blue collar, small town holiday season with an upcomjng school vacation and the Steelers on TV.
Think of the songs and shows on back then (Sanford and Son, Chico and the Man, Carol Burnet).
Best present was our little beagle hit by car a week or two before and was as good as dead came home after a miracle by the vet.
The players, the annomcers, the commercials, the lack of corporate yuppie over commercialization.

Nope, just benched. This is the game that Bradshaw has said he saw Gilliam doing lines of coke in the locker room at halftime. That's how Bradshaw got his job back. Gilliam self destructed.
Pittsburgh Steelers won the Superbowl against the Dallas Cowboys. Merlin Olson and Fred Dryer ended up having TV careers after they retired

The picture quality of this is absolutely amazing. I'm sure I was in bed at the point where this video picked up, so it was nice to finally be able to see the rest of this game.
My future brother-in-law was dating my oldest sister in the 70’s and when he would take her to the Rams games, he would take me also and I remember sitting in the coliseum with usually almost 90 thousand screaming fans. The memories of those games are unforgettable😎

Steelers were playing their last game of the season vs Rams in LA. Steelers had won 11 games in a row but lost to the Rams 10-3. Steelers went on to win their second Super Bowl in a row. Great replay of this game!

As a steelers fan born in 85. I grew up watching 2 previous superbowls with Big Ben....History of Steelers of this time era must of been golden to those who actually been there and witness it in real life. Go steelers 💪 🖤 💛
This was played on December 20, 1975, and was the final MNF telecast of the season. In those days, Monday Night Football ended its season on Saturday, thus the promo for "Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell." Now if someone would dig up the lost episodes of that notorious show...
Earlier that day, the Vikings beat the Bills 35-13 in Buffalo to end their season at 12-2, while the Dolphins edged the Broncos 14-13 at the Orange Bowl. I remember watching the latter on NBC; John Hufnagel quarterbacked the Broncos in his last regular season NFL game before going on to a long career in Canada.
Steelers beat the Cowboys in the Superbowl in 76.
This is when MNF was special and anticipated. Now? Thursday night football, Sunday night football, playoff Saturday games, 17 game season.....This is over saturation but all Goodell cares about is revenue!

The Rams of the 70’s win the award for most fascinating team I hadn’t heard of until I started looking up NFL history.

Los Angeles had 24 straight seasons (1967-1990) where they sent at least one offensive lineman to the pro bowl. If there’s a longer streak of that, then I have yet to find it.
During that span, those linemen would block for nine or ten different top five offenses, including Roman Gabriel’s 1969 MVP season, five of the prime years of Harold Jackson (who retired second in career receiving yards, and had the highest receiving totals in the 1970’s), and the prime years of Eric Dickerson, as well as another five time pro bowl halfback in Lawrence McCutcheon, and the league leading 1987 rushing season of Charles White.
They had I believe ten seasons where they sent at least three offensive linemen to the pro bowl, and they sent four to the pro bowl in 1968, 1978, and 1985.
The recent Secret Base documentary on the Vikings had a chart that showed how many games over .500 each franchise is in the regular seasons of the Super Bowl era (since 1966).
It showed the Rams from 1966-1989 (almost completely overlapping with this span) to have been just about as many games over .500 as the Cowboys were through 1989 and having been the second best team in the league over that span in the regular season after the Raiders.
From a Seahawks fan, this was a very good team for a very long time, and if you put one of the top quarterbacks in the league on it, then you might have had a couple Super Bowl titles. (other than Gabriel in 69, and the 1973 version of John Hadl, I wouldn’t say their quarterbacks were among the few best)

Many people in the LA Region would miss out on some of the ABC telecasts from the LA Coliseum due to Blackout restrictions....Great pick to enhance Mr. HOFer Volsky!
I was 8 years old at the time and this was my first year as a Rams fan (still a Rams fan...) and I recollect this being televised in Southern California which was definitely not the norm for their games in LA. I was so excited by this win. No hard feelings towards Pittsburgh. I remember rooting for them to avenge the Rams (7-37 loss in the NFC Championship) in Super Bowl X against the Cowboys -- which they did.
@@jeff4703Gifford said it was a capacity crowd. They must have sold out before the blackout deadline. In my lifetime maybe 3 Colts home games were shown on tv locally. I listened to the OT game against Oakland on the radio.
@@ronsmacI'm so glad you brought that fact to light. The main reason for the Colts blackout was the church on the corner of The Alameda and 33rd Street, just 2 bocks south of Memorial Stadium. Because of the parking situation, and it being Sundays the Colts never played at 1pm. Either 2 or 4pm. The Colts were sold out for many seasons. The blackout was in sense, punishment for not conforming to the scheduling, which was basically controlled by that church. When the Ravens came, part of the araingment was the church had to approve the 1pm starts.
So, most of the games at home were not seen in Baltimore. That included the Playoff games of 1970, '76, and 77. So, if anyone says they saw those games as it happened they aren't telling the truth. Those games were shown later that night, after the 11pm news.

Thanks for the video Dave, great work as always. I remember watching this game as a kid and liking Joe Gilliam. Rare to find any games with Joe playing considering he played only 4 years, this being his final year when he was out of the league at 25 years old. It's a shame he had one of those James Dean personalities that always seemed to clash with Chuck Noll and his system of doing things. He really could of had a fruitful career with the Steelers had he just behaved himself, and was more of a team player. Such a waste of talent. Then of course the drug habit didn't help his cause. Just another example of what should of been that didn't become. A wasted opportunity to live a dream many don't get to fulfill in the NFL.

Gilliam was likely in the grip of addiction at this point. From what I learned from Steelers history, Joe Greene confronted him about the parts of Pittsburgh he frequented and the people with whom Gilliam associated. His arm was powerful and he had great talent. It’s a sad story about what addiction can do.

were on the cover of Sports Illustrated. How you approach life is a lot more
important then how you approach your future, if that makes any sense.
Bradshaw got the Steelers starting job by default. Joe Gilliam beat him out in camp. Terry Bradshaw called AL Davis of the Raiders and asked Davis to trade for him. He knew Gilliam was better than him

As a young 11 year old, this particular game made me appreciate a good defense and won me over to becoming a Rams fan. I would bleed Blue and Gold until the mid to late 80s when I stopped watching NFL entirely.

I remember this game and season like yesterday. Bitter end to the season for Rams in 1975. Dallas Cowboys 37 Los Angeles Rams 7 in the NFC Conference championship game at the Coliseum. That’s when the Dallas Cowboys were great. Not like today’s pretenders 😂😂😂😂

I remember watching the NFL Films highlights of this game as a kid and thinking that Joe Gillam had thrown some of the absolute worst interceptions a professional QB had ever thrown. Thanks to the great Dave Volsky, I get to see the broadcast airing of them at 15:10 and 23:17. I hate to knock Joe, he had a tough life, but one can not deny, those INT throws were TERRIBLE.
Joe Gilliam could have used a good QB Coach. Notice his drop back and feet. He bends his right leg when planting and throws mostly using his right arm and not his body. More like a slinging motion. Also notice he very rarely looks off the primary receiver when dropping back in the pocket. While one cannot doubt his athletic ability one must account for his lack of coaching at this level to compete competitively.

I remember watching this game. Saturday night MNF game, just like the year before, with Dallas at Oakland in WK 14. Even though the game didn't mean the world to either team, it was entertaining. Especially to a 9 yr old lol.

I remember TV guide had this game featured on the cover of their magazine that week with a color sketch depicting Gilliam throwing a pass with defenders bearing down on him.

This Saturday night game was totally irrelevant. The Rams had clinched their division a month previous, and the Steelers had already clinched as well. I remember wondering why so many starters were in the game after halftime.
Weren’t the Rams trying to earn home field advantage for the playoffs since Minnesota was 12-2 ?

Back in the 70s when Dallas and Minnesota took turns knocking the Rams out of the playoffs except for 1979, when the Steelers did the honor.

The Rams defensive line featured 2 future TV stars, Drier and Olsen. Rosey Grier, former Ram D tackle had preceded them into Hollywood and even subdued RFK's assassin as a bodyguard in 1968. And of course, former Ram D end Deacon Jones had coined the word "sack," which he was a master of.
And even Deacon was on an episode of 'Brady Bunch'! :)

Steelers always had a bummer of a time travelling West and playing the Rams in the Los Angeles memorial coliseum. this game was their 6th loss in as many games in that stadium. as a matter of fact, Pittsburgh ended up never beating L.A at the coliseum, going 0-7 all time against the Rams in that stadium.

I remember like it was yesterday, Rams vs Steelers SB. Rams led first half. Terry Bradshaw to lynn Swan at the start of the 3rd quarter and they never looked back. This started me as a Ram fan. 1979,80

I remember Joe Gilliam well, after he parted ways with the Steelers, he went to the Saints under Hank Stram but things didn't work out.
This was the last NFL game he ever played in.
@@davevolskysbackdoor5673 Thanks for the note, many years later (1983) the Washington Federals gave him a chance to play (USFL) and I thought back in 1978 he had played in a semi-pro/minor league team in Kenner, Louisiana called the Chiefs.
I actually remember seeing a game on TV in 1983 with him in a Federals uniform. That Washington team was absolutely horrid :)

As for Joe Gilliam, I looked it up and he actually in 1980 played for a semi-pro/minor league team called the New Orleans Blue Knights, which oddly was primarily composed of police officers.

Even as a Cowboys fan, I think the Rans would have had a better chance this year to beat the Steelers in SB X. Even with much of their second string in, they beat them here. I can't figure out what happened two weeks later; the Rams were embarrassed in their own stadium.

Im glad as kid I never saw this game , I kept watching the same thing now thinking why are his mechanics so strange , he leans on his back leg too far looks like he's straining to throw , maybe he was injured ? All I know is I wanted Bradshaw to return , even he looks rusty here but he was only in for a few plays. The steelers hardly looked super bowl bound here.Disapointing game from a pittsburgh fan perspective , Rams looked feisty.

amazing they were commenting on how great the rams fans were supporting their team. Not so much today when half the stadium is full of the other fans teams. Plus I wish they had stuck with an outdoor stadium with real grass instead of that 5 billion dollar palace they play in now with the giant screen. Why do they need this? I miss Howard and frank so much, and dandy don. They were the best

The Rams hosted the Steelers in 1978 week 11 on November 12th. Maybe it was that game? Would be interesting to watch that film and try and find out. However, upon looking it up, that version of Heaven Can Wait came out in 1978. But seemingly was released earlier in 1978, so you are probably correct!
I saw the Steelers play the New York Jets at Shea Stadium in 1977 right after Thanksgiving the wind chill coming off the bay made the temperature feel like about 30° and it wasn't even winter time. Pittsburgh was good but the Jets had a kicker named Pat Leahy and he kept them in the game early. Pittsburgh won the game 23-20
Interesting how all the Rams receivers would be in a 3-pt stance prior to the snap. Can you think of anything else that you no longer or rarely see in a sport?

On paper this game Steelers vs Rams was a marque matchup between 2 NFL superpowers. Unfortunately this game was meaningless before the opening kickoff since the Rams had already been locked in as a 2 seed in the NFC and the Steelers were already locked in as a 1 seed in the AFC. If only these teams could have met 2 weeks earlier this game would have been far more explosive and exciting.
Why is Gilliam playing instead of Bradshaw after winning the Super Bowl? Also, I love these old Monday night football games when the games actually look like they were played at night.
Bradshaw played the first half. Was final game of the regular season and was meaningless for both teams, hence reserves were playing.
