    The F1 was my first SLR. I bought it at Ft. Freely AK in 1975. I carried that camera everywhere, shot everything...until 1979...when it was stolen from my apartment. I have always wanted to buy another but they tend to still command a hefty asking price to this day. So I walk around with a K1000 just waiting for the day I find a decent F1 and pull the trigger on it. Thanks for the 'no nonsense' video.

      @@piraveenthevikaran1853 Yes, I got it meanwhile. The camera is pure pleasure! Fits well in the hand. Has some weight to it, which I prefer. Have to bring it to a mechanic for overhauling, though. The shutter dial hardly moves and only with quite some force. But this seems to be repairable.

      @@pixelgenau2982 I just got mines and everything is fine except the battery check, although there is a simple way around it, this would be the first film camera I use and I know I'll enjoy it for sure!

      @@piraveenthevikaran1853 I started shooting film last year, coming from a digital system. Now it‘s film only! Analogue photography is something so pure and enjoyable, that digital can‘t do. I am absolutely sure you gonna like it as much I do. There is a learnig curve to it but the more you shoot, the better you get.

    A couple questions I have that you didn’t address in the video.
    1) How does the self timer work? What’s the difference between the M and the L?
    2) You mentioned the built in light meter, how does one know if the aperture and shutter is aligned?

    • @thomasthiele3948
      @thomasthiele3948 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello, I don't have my F-1s at hand, but as far as I remember it works this way: the built in light meter measures a small part of the picture (12 % selective metering) in the center. On the right hand within the viewfinder there is a needle that shows the amount of light and a second tool with a circle on the end. As you change the aperture, this tool moves and you only have to match it with the needle to get the right value. You can also change the speed, which is also shown in the viewfinder. It works very quick. It does not change accidentically as an automatic system does, but thats another question.
      The self timer is indeed two levers. The big one is a selftimer working like many others. The small lever has two functions marked with L and M. One is to lock the mirror in upward position for example for macro shots, and you can combine it with the selftimer for this purpose. The second function is to shut the aperture for stop down metering or for preview of the dephth of sharpness. There is a small lock button to fix the function. You can combine all that, but you have to do it in the right sequence: first cock the selftimer, then lock the mirror, then stop down the aperture. I hope this is right, because it is some months ago, when I used the F-1 daily.
      The meter uses a mercury cell 1,35 volts. These are forbidden nowadays and the today version of the battery has 1.5 volts. That may cause faulty metering of 0,5 to 2 stops, but with negative film it may be acceptible. Or you use an external meter or the sunny 16 rule. Regards, Thomas

    Great - I appreciated very much! I asked you about a month ago, maybe you missed it, but I asked you to talk about the Canon EF - Black Beauty. Really looking forward to it.

    Does the F-1 shoot double exposure like the A-1?

    • @youngum78

      Yes. You have to press down the button for winding the film (Bottom of the camera) for the second exposure.

    $45 for a Canon FD 50mm f1.4?
    $200 for a Canon FD 35mm f2 Concave Thorium?
    *Prices certainly went up since then.*

    Hey Japan Vintage Camera this is a good video. My Canon F-1n lens mount is hard to mount the lenses like the flange was poorly machined or something. I was wondering if you have a video tutorial about the Sekonic Micro Leader hand held light meter, I just got one recently. Thanks.

    • @thomasthiele3948
      @thomasthiele3948 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nickfanzohi, there are three different versions of hot shoe. Which one do you have? There is a small one you have to pull backwards, there is one with a battery compartment for illumination of the finder. One has a black knob you have to move to right or left the other one hat a metal grip to turn or move. The last one couples to the contacs at the rewind knob but has the hot shoe on top of the finder, it is secured by the eyepiece ring and can afterwards be pulled backwards.
