1. Tip compactor on side. 2. Remove bottom plate. 3. Remove C-clip that's retaining large gear and the gear itself. 4. Turn chain drive with appropriate size socket (probably 18mm or 3/4 inch) until foot has returned to the top. 5. Reinstall gear and C-clip (and bottom plate, if you're done working on the bottom of the compactor). 6. Stand compactor back up and remove drawer. Edit: Step 4 goes a lot faster with a drill or impact driver but go easy or you can overshoot the end of the run.

My compactor door is solid metal the controls are on the inside so how do I get the drawer open? I cannot unscrew it from the cabinet or do any of these things because I can’t open the front!!!
What I'd like to know is what if the unit is jammed and the drawer won't open? I've got one just like this one (Kitchen aid). Mine is jammed. The motor hums and throws the breaker on the power strip. The drawer can be pulled in and out about 2". I'm thinking the ram is hitting the drawer and is in a bind. There is probably trash between the drawer and back wall of the compactor or the ran is caught on something in the drawer. I was not operating the compactor when this happened so I don't know if it jammed on the downstroke or upstroke. If it's jammed on the downstroke, I'm thinking if I could reverse the direction of the motor/screw I could get the ram back to the top. Maybe laying it on it's side and turning the large gear would do the trick? Or if I could get to the back of the drawer I can check for trash that has fallen out of the drawer.
Mine stuck down so I can't get the drawer out. Turns out it was the power nuts - I pulled it out and took the top off, and since the power nuts are stripped I was able to pull the ram out the top.
The way to get the drawer to open is to turn the large plastic gear counter-clockwise, and if the power nuts are stripped, that can make it quicker to pull the ram out the top.
What you guys fail to share is what to do if the compactor is stuck in down position and cannot remove the drawer.
Seriously, this is so frustrating!
Yeah mine is stuck down so you can’t remove anything. Worthless video.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could do this, I don’t think they understand that we cannot open door to unscrew from cabinet to do any of this.
@@gwen5734 I laid it out in step-by-step instructions.
I guess the ram is stuck on the down position I can not open the door to unscrew from cabinets and have a full stainless front how do I open it?
I cannot get my compacted out off cabinet with door stuck

Exactly what I had to do then gear counter clockwise
If the ram is in the stuck position, I can’t remove the drawer. Should I just go to checking the drive train with the drawer in?

@@davidallen5535 thanks David, knowing i can take the top off will make it easier than turning it upside down.
@@kwinters5550 thank you K, if the nuts are stripped, if i replace with new ones do you think it will fix the problem?
@@Theresa914 Yes.
The safety tips make me laugh. That includes the part with the glass, aerosol can, the batteries, wood, and his foot.
Mine will only go thru cycle, but will not compact, but continues the cycle.
obviously the gear is stripped then
