Never played Xenogears, so it's been added to my backlog. I find it so amazing how many great games never made it out of Japan. So grateful these rom hacks right those old wrongs for us non Japanese speaking people. 😊
@@thingsnerdsdo6862 Just fabulous isn't it. I used to get quite despondent back in the day when the magazines were saying that the Japanese games would never come out over here. But now they have (in a way)!
my family couldn't afford any one these game consoles growing up. I play here and there at a friend's place or video game cafe with breakfast money. Now the number of games that can fit in a $60 handheld is unthinkable. I'm finishing 3-4 games a month now with all life and work. At best I have 40 years left, it's sad to think that I could never able to play all of them :(
Thank you for your kind words. Yes, the aesthetics of Racing Lagoon are second-to-none. Squaresoft had a flair for getting the best out of late-life consoles, always pushing the boundaries
That looks almost like an RG353V when you show the DOS game? I got one of these a while back and I absolutely love the little thing !!! PlayStation, Saturn, game boy, game, boy, color, and game boy Advance are my favorite thing to play on it, but I love some of the Varcade stuff too! Such a wonderful device!
Yes! It's a successor to the RG353V called the RG40XXV. It's got a beautiful 4" screen (footage doesn't do it justice). We have a bunch of vids reviewing Anbernic emulation consoles and others: they're so inexpensive and so good. We'll put a link to the RG40XXV in the Description, if anyone wants one (there's a sale on at the moment).
Nice recap man. There's a ton of mods that always look cool but it's always impossible to get into without 20 hours of research on sorting out garbage / abandoned / incomplete / not fun after the first 10 hours of gameplay. It's nice to have some vetted recommendations like this to go through
Thank you for the kind words. We do *a lot* of research into fan hacks so it's really nice to have this recognised. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment
Racing Lagoon: Square meets Initial D/Wangan Midnight is more appropriate. It's a shame I couldn't get into it when I tried a few months ago, I'll try again. It's right up my alley after all, I really wanna like it. I am also no stranger to simulation racers, so I was quite frustrated when I sucked at this game. I have several thousand hours under my belt across the big names in the scene and I'm a pretty proficient irl driver. FFT: The Lion War was brilliant man. I played through it roughly around this time last year and it felt like I was playing the game for the first time again. FFT is one of my alltime favorites since the 90s, I've played it dozens of times. I thought how they implemented the WotL psp content was amazing, and they did QoL upgrades on top of that... and Ashley Riot. I actually edited my save file for custom sprites and custom jobs on some units and that made it much more fun. The main character I created used a custom Weigraf based sprite, job was Lune Knight with secondary ability being Cloud's Limit. Not only did the hack get rid of the Materia Blade criteria but I threw on Short/No Charge depending on how OP I wanted to be. As a bonus I basically just benched Orlandu & Cloud. I also made this chick that has a custom sprite that closest resembles Balmafula's sprite who has I think the Sorcerer job and maybe one of the Archaic/Ultima Demon skillsets. There's so many other great sprite swaps & custom characters I made though, like I gave Mustadio a Solid Snake MGS1 sprite for example. I still have the Deep Dungeon to go through before I'm done with that file so I look forward to enjoying that whenever I feel like booting this one up again. But um, the ISO for Lion War that I got did not have the option for the psp version's new anime cutscene in the opening. Is that an update since a year ago? Regarding the emulator comment, nah not exactly. I played this hack on my cfw ps3, but I've made/have dozens of psp eboots that also work on my vita too including this one if I run it through the converter. I'm personally not playing on PC. Wizardry VII: Not Interested. However I was pretty into DOS games in 1992... Xenogears Perfect Works: Oh shit... I need to try that one out, brb gonna go d/l it. Xenogears was one of my favorite rpgs back in the day, think I first played it around 00. FFVI Tactics: Already on FFHacktics downloading it.
You need to update your RG40XXV with some CFW to fix the stick issue. I had been using muOS on my RG35XXH and RG40XXH which worked well but have revently swapped to Knulli. Shoutout to fellow Scotsman Gamma for fixing the cardinal snapping 👍🏻
Final Fantasy 6 as a Tactics mod is ambitious enough that I don't think I'll even want to play it until I'm sure it's finished. If I'd jump in now and lovw it, but had to wait years for its completion... I would not be a happy camper. Best stick to Pixel Remaster until I can experience it in full.
Fair enough! Something to look forward to. And you definitely want to experience the original game before playing the Tactics mod. The Pixel Remaster is a great way to do it!
Wrt Xenogears, I’m curious what the books says regarding the cut material from later in the game. If memory serves, two or three of the main characters had side quest story lines completely removed where their gears get upgraded. Any roms that attempt to add that kind of content or do roms limit mods to top level code tweaks?
Isn't one of the biggest pros of FFT The Lion War on PSP, that you can unlock the dark knight job class (Gafgarions job class), which wasn't playable in the original version? I assume that's also part of that ROM hack, isn't it? Unfortunately, you didn't mention that at all...
Technically the Dark Knight from WotL is different than Gaff's Dark Knight, quite so with different moves & stat growth and so on. It's kind of the same thing as Agrias' Holy Knight & Weigraf's White Knight, or Orlandu's Holy Swordsman & Dycedarg's Lune Knight. They did a really good job implementing that job class even without the proper animations for the new moves.
Being an expert at Gran Turismo and Ridge Racer are two completely different things. One is a sim racer and the other is an arcade racer. I have no idea if I'd be good at Racing Lagoon from this
@cd5sircoupe I think if u equip car modestly, (like, 1 or 2 turbos) and keep torque and power balanced its much more consistent. The R30 Ikki drives, and the R30 in gran turismo, feel similar to me.O i'm not a "pro" but i've put a lot of time into both.
@hyperplayrpg I wasn't sure cuz I thought y'all mispronounced aluminum, before learning that you changed the spelling to harmonize the pronunciation with the other metals. I've since learned that a lot of the linguistic differences have pretty good reasons. Asoccer was a nickname for (asocciation) football in Britain which got shortened to soccer and didn't even fall out of use till the 70s cuz it was seen as an Americanism (as most Americans [at least now] also falsely believe). America made it the official name cuz we developed gridiron football and people dropped saying gridiron as it was just so popular, so we called soccer soccer till it became official. And yeah I find etymology interesting.
Racing Lagoon would be better for the expert drivers if it actually handled something similar to Gran Turismo, but it doesn't... That's what makes it so hard is it is a bit on the janky side.. Other than that, it was the first game. I downloaded on my phone when the Gamma emulator first released.
Which one are you going to play?

Gotta finish racing lagoon for the 5th time 💪
Here's one idea, a mod for Xenogears to be FF6 like that FF6 tactics mod?
Final Fantasy VI Tactics looks phenomenal! I can't wait for them to finish it up and add the story elements!
Indeed. It's fantastic... and will only get better!
Great Video! I've been looking for ps1 romhacks but havent found a ton of information. You popped up in my algorithm today telling me otherwise
Thank you! (for watching, and the very nice comment)
I love the way you talk about these games and I'm def heading for Racing Lagoon first! Such an incredible piece of art mannnnnn
Thank you for your kind words. Yes, the aesthetics of Racing Lagoon are second-to-none. Squaresoft had a flair for getting the best out of late-life consoles, always pushing the boundaries
14:59 Those bear wolf things look like some kind of long forgotten boy band doing their signature dance.
Ha! Brilliant. Got a mate who was nearly in a boy band and we could imagine him doing that
That looks almost like an RG353V when you show the DOS game?

My fave is the English Translation of Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss
I... what? That's an American game!
Thank you for this phenomenal video

That last one. Damn. Any word on when it will be completed?

An expert! Hooray. Well, there's only one way to find out...
Some cars feel surprisingly similar to their granturismo counter parts.
Def much more GT than RR.
As an expert on Gran Turismo and other things, no this game doesn't feel that good.

Your mic sounds like you're in the room with me and it's unsettling 👍
I have been known to have that effect on people! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 👍
How did I miss the XenoGears mod?!?
can you use the same save files from the non mod?
Good content, but your voice is too low, it might be good to turn up the mic a bit.
Thanks! Always looking to improve the audio. If you turn up the volume on your phone or listen to it via headphones it should be ok.
Your sound is off balance, right side is louder.
19:51 2 Hypers 😁
Oops!
Xenogears is strictly for men of taste.
I like to think so!
I see Xenogears, I click
You have great taste!
Rad Racer? :)
I hope that ffvi tactics gets finished
