The game is different, the "confidants" or followers in this game are better in my opinion, this time around your choices don't make the ranks advance faster, so you can be true to yourself qhen choosing options and don't feel the need to be optimal The combat mechanic are so much better and ask for much more strategy, you archetypes actually matter, your synthesis attacks are your strongest tools at the risk of wasting your turns if you don't exploit the right weaknesses The row system is genius, if you're struggling in surviving you can go to the back row to take less damage at the price of doing less damage Leveling up archetypes gives you access to more skills and more weaknesses to exploit, passing turns has actual value since it only consumes half an action The real time combat does make a difference, half of the enemies in the first dungeon were defeated with the action combat for me, each time I entered a new floor enemies were strong enough to not be killed on field, but a couple of battles later and they started to go down in the action combat and I wasn't even overleveled, I was on par with what the game asked of me Dungeons are also different, you have a much more aggressive approach, you don't have to hidr from enemies, there are much less puzzles to solve, it doesn't feel like a heist, it feels like a siege. Mementos are also substituted by a bunch of side dungeons that make the experience much more consistent, instead of a boring randomly generated dungeon you have multiple smaller dungeons with their own small puzzles and boss to fight at the end, it works quite well Say what you will, but this game isn't persona and it isn't SMT, it takes good aspects of both games to create something unique, yes it has their dna, but it's very much its own thing

I agree - it's stupid to tell people to throw away their stock SD card with all those games on it. Not everyone is is knowledgeable to find and add new games from the internet.

My biggest complaint with Metaphor is everything feels like "instead of". Like instead of what we did in Persona 5, we did this!

calling a game made by atlus a "p5 reskin" is insane... a LOT of the systems/battle mechanics in p5 can be found in older atlas titles

Some other ROM Hacks to try. For Lufia II Rise of The Sinistrals, there's a ROM hack called Lufia II Age of The Sinistrals that a lot better than the Frue edition. It replaces the old retry mode with an optional Hard mode from the start, unlocks Gift mode from start too (ancient cave), the story is the same, it fixes a lot of bugs from the original, and lets you get abilities for characters instead of only spells. Helping the characters that can't cast. It also adds difficulty in all the right places. Lufia II is one of my all time fav SNES RPGs and I enjoyed Age of The Sinistrals much more than Frue. For Final Fantasy VI, Divergent Paths also included a Leo arc like Antinomia but a little more robust. Also, Antinomia bug fixes concluded last year i thought, where as Divergent Paths just finished it's last version a few months ago. it's pretty much done. The team was just adding some community requested tweaks here and there that weren't really noticeable. Antinomia was great, but it felt like a bug fix and slight story adjustment, and then there's what they did with Mog. When i come back to FFVI. I need me the full Mog experience. I'd suggest Divergent Paths. It's story is a perfect mirror of what Square would have done, and the adjustments it made are top tier. T-Edition is for sure a great ROM hack for FFVI too. The visual changes to be closer to the art alone are great. The added quest's you mentioned are addicting too. It's a robust hack. Antinomia is up their with T-Edition, but on the milder adjustment scale. Dark Sorcerer looks like a whole new game entirely. I'd try it for sure, but it looks like it's for players looking for a whole new spin. Which can be a great thing. Give Divergent Paths a shot. It's a fun ride. For Final Fantasy V. There are Advanced/Expert versions that take the translated version you mentioned and adds a few things. The sprint function, font fixes, and obviously a slightly harder difficulty. If you want another great ROM Hacked SNES RPG not mentioned, try Chrono Trigger+. It was even still modified for improvements as recently as July of 2024. This game adds the deleted content (including music, enemies, and locations), as well as making it slightly harder. Which is a plus since the enemies were always too easy. Just beware, you'll have to be much more on point with standard RPG enemy battles than before where you could do anything to win. To add to Chrono Trigger nostalgia, try Schala Edition. It fixes the script and censorship issues, as well as some storyline changes that make Schala escape the Ocean Palace and being around the rest of the story. If you want something closer to the original, Chrono Trigger Retranslation is the one for you. It's a pure uncut version, with bug fixes to make it perfect. If you want the full Chrono Trigger experience. First beat Chrono Trigger+. Then try Prophet's Guile. It's a full game in the style of Chrono Trigger and built around Magus. It's a fully built story/game. Last, get your hands on Flames of Eternity. It's been mentioned in chat a few times and that's for a reason. It's a well done sequel to the original game. Fully fleshed out. My last recommendation is Super Mario RPG: Armageddon. It adds some additional bosses from games (like it did with Final Fantasy) and adds them perfectly. Also does a lot to add additional effects, spells, items, weapons, armor, accessories, even music. It increases the level cap and the post game rewards/features are great. It's a must play.

I'm getting my R36S next week and I'd like to have one card for the OS and the other for roms. What capacity does the card for the OS have to be?

I never apply glue straight from a tube. One wrong squeeze and it's all over the place. I always put some on a single use coaster and use a toothpick to apply it.

Got one of these the other day, was gutted that final fantasy 6 wasn't playable on the SNES or advance Emulator. And I don't have a computer to fix the firmware. Gonna try and Find this rom though and stick it on there.

I have the x55 as my 2nd handheld after the rg35xx and I agree but give Rocknix a shot. Ports and battery seem to be fixed

It was the QC issues during launch with the screen dimness of the metallic blue X-55. It does feel very hollow, super loud clicky buttons and the strange left volume up and right volume down lay out. I lucked out and got a decent model. I agree that this system is slept on and it’s a shame because of the reputation however at its msrp it competes with the retroid 2s, and any Ali express/tiktok shop sales.

I want to ask about the R36S, how to get new battery if the one it come with it fried ? i didn't see any post about it being sold separately

My r36s arived 2 days ago and is absolutely amazing still undefeated for its price and performance

I'm really liking T-Edition, but the only reason I made it to WoR is auto-grinding on the Lethe River during the initial escape. Which is to say, it *is* very very cool, but *also* you're not wrong, and the extensive guide materials super help.

There was a leak of FF9 design sketches long ago that indicated they were considering the Job System for that game, shame it didn't happen.

I appreciate your description of it as a "director's cut" since that's kind of what I was going for: adding new content that was meant to enhance what was already there rather than overshadow, replace, or unnecessarily change it.

Giving your video a Like because: 1) Rudra No Hihou; way better than FF6. 2) Estpolis 2. Always love this game for its gameplay, story and music 3) Tengai Makyou Zero. Totally found it better than Chrono Trigger. I only played it as an adult few years ago. Music is superb and because it's a Japanese setting. 4) FF5 is my childhood growing up game. I have always found FF5 more superior than FF4 + FF6. I played the Japanese version when it was released many times. 5) FF6's various ROM Hacks. Not a big fan growing up with the original, also because of the name changes. Tina & Mash etc. I enjoyed ROtDS. Love the changes + music. T-Edition was brilliant for the massive changes. Cheat codes are the best. Infinite health etc. just so that I can get through all these hacks faster. Adulthood leaves no time for taking my time with games.

I really want to play that General Leo patch but would you entirely rate it higher than T Edition? I haven’t yet to play 6 and am about to start and I do like this inclusion if it means I get a much fuller and richer experience

When you add the ROMs will it show the system console on the menu screen? Or do you have to manually get the emulator installed on the Menu Screen?

Nice touch in that last battle sequence having the two soldiers fighting alongside Leo an Celes also named after characters is Star Wars like Terra does in the opening act.

So mine shipped with emuelec, and no combo of dtb and boot files work at all. All i get is the battery light flashing red, but if i go back to the original micro sd it boots fine.

Ive only played lufia ii . Great game. Looking forward to trying these rom hacks particularly ones that never got eng releases

Sorry for the double comment, but another discussion could be had about FF4 vs FF5. For me, FF4 is more memorable, not just specific story beats, but also what the player has to do & where to go. The reason I say this (and this only really applies to me) is because I ended up playing the randomizers for both FF4 & 5, and I had a much easier time remembering where to go for key items in 4 over 5. 5's story might be more consistent in tone, but you, the player, may not be a fan of the "Saturday Morning Anime" vibe of 5, consistent as it might be. But I absolutely agree with you about the "Willy-Nilly Sacrifice" thing in 4. It was kind of goofy, especially Cid's. Tellah's, however, can still make me a bit misty eyed. But, having said all of that, I had planned on replaying vanilla FF5 at some point, because I couldn't remember it well enough to finish the randomizer without looking at the "spoiler sheet" so it could just be me, haha. And thanks for this video! I'm especially interested in the first two hacks you covered!

I especially agree about the "Romhack with really interesting ideas, but is just so wildly hard" FF4 Ultima Edition and Super Mario RPG Armageddon are the 2 most outstanding examples in my mind. Still finished both of them, but it was quite a journey in difficulty. I wish there werre versions that had the new mechanics and concepts, but maybe a tad bit easier? Still though, they are really neat either way.

How do you update it? .. the menu is so limited compared to an R36S... With the R36S you just plug in a Wifi dongle and go to the main menu and click "update"... with this thing there are only like four menu options and none of them really gets you anywhere... I DO, however, love the HDMI out, the solid feel of the shoulder buttons, and the overall heavier and more solid feel of the unit in general..

I suggest Final Fantasy VI: Divergent Paths. It also has Leo as a playable character and a adds a new playable character. I think it's the best version of FF6.
