So small question (unless I missed it in the video, then shame on me for being a klutz) but is there an efficient way to obtain mons with perfect IVs without resorting to grinding eggs mindlessely until you get better ones and breed those then to get lucky?! Wouldnt mind something like... somewhere a Ditto with Perfect IV's as a trade to throw us a bone here. 😅 Just geniunely curious. 💚
I like that Norman calls you for a rematch. It's a nice hint to check the others too, without being in your face about it every time a new leader wants a rematch
Hey Smith, I just found your Pokémon gaming content and it's amazing! I'm having a tough time lately, and playing your games is really helping me out. Big congrats to you and your team!
What legacy means to me, I’m 34 so I still remember getting Pokémon red and a gameboy color for Xmas 1999. I spent Xmas afternoon hunting bugs in viridian forest. Played up to sapphire, still a gamer but fell off Pokémon. Found your TH-cam series ages ago and was hooked when you announced you were doing a romhack. You plans struck a cord as I loved my Pokémon gold copy but man did I want a simple way to run a kingdra and scizor in my team. The legacy games, played hours of both and 2 gyms into emerald now, have given me a nostalgia trip like no other. With all the improvements you and your team has made it plays as well as my child brain probably remembers. I really appreciate the passion and respect for the games you guys have shown and the hard work to get these romhacks so polished and thought out. Huge thanks to everyone at the legacy team.
Making Wallace and Steven true counter parts to each other AS WELL AS the positive counter parts to the entire water vs land, aqua vs magma theme is pure genius and I never would have thought of that, bravo!
@@ChangedMyNameFinally69 probably but they could’ve been more upfront about it, not once does either character meet or mention the other as far as I know. Only bit we get is from emerald with the Steven super boss, otherwise there isn’t much relation even with it. Especially in Ruby and Sapphire where there is even less relation
@@ChangedMyNameFinally69 If it was, I genuinely never put it together despite obsessing over these games since I was a child. Whenever I think about Steven and Wallace I just think about how much I miss Steven as champion and how weird it was to introduce Juan. If it was intentional, I would have expected them to swap 8th gym/champion spots in Ruby and Sapphire, instead of the change coming in Emerald and it just being Wallace kicking Steven out for no reason.

SmithPlays: “Feebas has been left unchanged.” Me: "I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.”
@Dpmt the sheen thing was so dumb. I get it, so you can't just max out every stat. But if we're tying a rare Pokémon's evolution to it, and it's possible that it can be given nothing but blue pokeblocks and it's still not enough to evolve.....
@@Dpmt Sheen sucked yes, but Feebas only being available on a singular specific tile that changes per day was always the single worst aspect of it. So that being unchanged is terrifying still.
I recently 100%ed Yellow Legacy and I'm working on Crystal Legacy now. These games are like the games I remember but also SO wanted them TO BE when I was a kid. Just the thrill of finding pokemon in new places made me feel 12 years old again. Can't wait to play Emerald.
I did crystal legacy and it was everything I wanted and more. Sure there are other rom hacks but smiths was perfect. I mean he made my favorite pokemon tyrabitar possible to actually use? The game stayed balance, it’s just chefs kiss all around. Only thing I would like to see more is some super rom hack with all 3 maps but sone in the modern style of 3rd gen (I really loved the two maps of gen 2, made the game last while you kept leveling).
As someone who just played through Emerald, I watched this video with much joy. Keep up the good work, and thank you to all that helped with this beloved project.
@@smithplayspokemonmy pleasure! You weren’t kidding about that Beldum! Took me over an hour to find it, and another 30 min of reloading my in game save to catch it 😂 this has been a great experience sir.
LEGACY TEAM!!! Gens 1-3 are really what I was brought up with, and find myself going back to after many years. Seeing the Legacy series capture the wonder and honesty of the games without overly changing the base experience is such a fantastic love letter to us when we were kids playing these games and having a blast. Now, I can enjoy these games the same way, but with the adjustments and improvements that this series carefully crafted in each game. Thank you to the ENTIRE team for putting this trio of games together!!
One thing I want to give a special mention to is the upgraded Pokedex - it feels like such a no-brainer feature after playing Legacy Crystal that it is actually genuinely hard for me to play some of the mainline games without it. Having everything I want to know about a Pokemon without having to lookup an online database is not only convenient, but helps with the immersion - I have this hi-tech database, let me use it like one! I also want to thank you for these roms. I, without exaggeration, played through Legacy Crystal 4 times in a row and used a variety of Pokemon I never would've used otherwise on my teams. Gen 2 and 3 hold a special place in my heart and these hacks have been absolutely fantastic to follow along with. Thank you all for your crazy hard work! It is very much appreciated!
One note to anyone who is interested in playing on hardcore, I would only recommend playing on hardcore if you're not interested in playing the post game because it does still apply to the battle frontier.
@bobseltheslimeking none of the major bosses use healing items on any difficulty. Hard mode doesn't effect post game because you're not level capped to any of the post game stuff so you can do that fine.
@bobseltheslimeking Hard mode won't change much, other than you won't be able to switch between Pokémon (it might already do that normally). You normally can't use items, so that goes unnoticed.
I'm assuming there's no way to turn off hardcore or hard mode, would that be correct? I want to do a hardcore nuzlocke until through the champion, hardcore mode would make things slightly easier, but I don't want to continue that in the post game. Sounds like I'll be using hard mode unless someone learns of a way to change the difficulty.
Thank you guys so much for the legacy trio, still haven't gotten around to Yellow, but Catching everything in Crystal and completing the game was one of the most fun experiences I've had with the older games in a long time (since i 100% the stadium games actually) You guys have done an amazing job and all the little details all add up to make such wonderful games i would love to see my personally favorite generation (Gen 4) be done as well, but if not, no hard feelings, I appreciate your time and effort ❤
Man, this series affected me in so many ways. First, I want to say a HUGE thanks for the team and the thousands of hours it took to make these games! So much love and effort was put into keeping the essence of these games alive! Following this series since the beginning, it was a great way to connect with the community and hear everyone's ideas on the best ways to elevate each game. From game mechanics, to added story beats, or balancing issues was all super interesting to follow and even contribute to! So many great ideas from your team and the community came together to make such cool aspects of the games I wouldn't have ever thought of that greatly improved aspects of these games! And on a more selfish note, the Discord Art contest gave me another reason to continue with art, even when I was in a bit of an artistic rut. I always find art challenges a great motivator to do something, and I'm honored that my Icon submission won!! I got to chat with other super talented artists in this community, which made the contest that much more fulfilling! You guys deserve the break, and can't wait to see what other game design videos come through the pipeline! :)

This is insane. I always thought the original Emerald had the most potential of any Pokémon game, but it had way too many flaws. You guys did an incredible job fixing it all. Also, the complete availability of the National Dex gives so many extra play hours. Congrats and thank you!
All the post-game attention to detail is super appreciated. Takes the game from being a cleaned up emerald to having hours of replay-ability. Thank you all for your hard work.
Ive been watching this in chunks so i can pay close attention to these details. What a time to be alive, and I don't say that entirely ironically. Projects like this genuinely make me so happy to even learn about. Thank you everyone!
What i really appreciate from the Legacy series is that the team really does think about the legacy the original games have left behind. We have seen the heights of the games (Tate & Liza, Steven, Route 119) been emphasised while taking the lesser areas (water domination, poor scripting, plain movesets) and trying to make them match up to the positive. It trys to make the games legacy become more substantial and balanced
Legacy team did an amazing job with this one by not only giving a well-needed balance/update to gen 3, but doing so while keeping to core feel of the generation intact that preserves the nostalgia of the original.
downloaded, just started playing. I gotta say I'm absolutely honored that Steven's super-cradily is IDENTICAL to what I like to run it as in my nuzlockes! I feel super valid, haha. So excited to play, smith! Congratulations to you and the team!
I would argue Hoenn has incredibly good map design and doesn't need fast travel. The map loops in and around on itself in multiple ways that make any backtracking feel natural and show your progression (it takes quite a while to reach cycling road, but it's actually a short surf from your very first rival fight. Verdanturf feels so far from Rustboro when you first reach it, but really it's just a rocksmash boulder away. etc etc) Fast-travel might be quality of life, but I'd argue it undermines the very intentional map design and progression of Hoenn's routes. Also, it feels like a redundant complaint that I'm sure you've heard before, but you wouldn't have to worry about adjusting all these physical and special attack stats if you just made the realization game freak did over a decade ago that it simply works better to make individual moves physical or special, rather than entire types being one or the other. Hoenn's ultimately flawed "everybody has to sorta kinda be a mixed attacker" philosophy is either part of gen 3's identity, in which case pokemon should be forced to work around that with the stats they have, or it isn't part of its identity, at which point changing the way moves work is more effective than tweaking a bunch of pokemon's stats. If post-game enemy trainers are going to have perfect EVs and IVs, I feel there needs to be an accessible way to give your team the same, as BDSP and most modern entries have. The bottlecap system (along with the EV lowering berries) was honestly good enough for this, and I feel like that would be the truest possible quality of life. Additionally, I recently played through seaglass emerald, which made an incredible quality of life decision to make the nature changing mints purchasable. I really ultimately think it needs to be understood most players of your gen3 romhack don't want to take the time necessary to breed and level the perfect team to deal with post game. Executing a good strategy is fun, praying for the good luck to even begin preparing for it isn't. Especially when the design of these challenge fights is already so far away from anything the base game ever had. BDSP's challenge fights weren't designed in a vacuum, they were made with other player tools in mind that do not exist in gen 3.
The legacy mods have been an inspiration for fanworks, and revived some of my fondest nostalgic memories of Pokémon playthroughs, from my first run through Red to my favourite experiences in Crystal, all the way to the time I did an Emerald run with a shiny Celebi as my starter for a laugh. Great work, guys.
WIth the legacy series I got to enjoy actually Pokemon again, the most recent iterations are not made for me. And the legacy series allowed me and my friends to just be fans and kids again for a little while, which in itself is already a rare gift. So thank you.
This series has helped me appreciate what enhanced games could be, and maybe if you eventually go on to do a Platinum Legacy, you can carry the lessons learned from the previous 3 to it.
Project like these brings tear to my eyes, having the chance to play Pokemon again like in the good old days, bringing our childhood back and having fun like we used to. I appreciate all the improvements you guys added, all the little upgrades, all the details. Thank you all for your hard work. What an incredible project you guys did. I'm also a big fan of having physical copies of everything so I hope one day I can get one for this ROM too. I can't wait to see you guys next project, good luck! And again sincerely thank you.
This Legacy series was a great outlet for me to address and think about the good and bad of some of my favorite generations of games. Nostalgia plays a big part, but it's really cool to see a team actively investigate each aspects of gens 1-3, and see what works and what could be improved on. It tickles something in my brain to see discussions around why X isn't just a quirk of old games, but could have been Y and been much better!
I haven't gotten very far in Crystal or Yellow Legacy yet, but these videos are a big part of why I'm currently on another Pokémon fixation with no end in sight. These videos also got me to finally jump in and check out rom hacks, and that in itself has opened up tons of new experiences for me. I've already been talking up this series for a couple of months, and I will continue to do so because people should know about these.
The fact that I’m more excited about this launch than anything Nintendo is putting out for Legends AZ and such just speaks volumes to the work you and your team put into making great updates to the game! Looking forward to playing it!
@@Cr3zantThat is not at *all* the point. If all it'll take for you to change your mind is more trailers, then this convo wasn't for you. This is the "shit on Nintendo for being a terrible, garbage company" thread
I've been a lifelong gamer and Pokémon fan. Crystal, LeafGreen, and Emerald were the first three video games I ever owned, and I spent thousands of hours playing them as a kid. As an adult, I've often longed to recapture that feeling. However, replaying the games years later never quite hit the same. With countless replays under my belt and exposure to other more polished games over time, the shine of these classics had started to fade. Then I discovered Pokémon Legacy. I stumbled upon this channel by chance before Crystal Legacy, and these ROM hacks reignited all the nostalgia from my early years. They combine that nostalgic magic with the novelty and challenge I now crave as an adult. I've been eagerly awaiting Emerald Legacy while staying preoccupied with 100% completing Crystal Legacy and Yellow Legacy. A heartfelt thanks to the Legacy team for bringing back a piece of our childhood through these incredible games. The soul and passion you pour into these projects are undeniable, and I can't wait to see what comes next!
This guy is doing what Nintendo could never do remaking the third versions of Pokémon games. I really deeply appreciate what you’re doing man because Nintendo never remakes the most favorite Pokémon games like platinum or emerald like this one or Crystal.
You guys are beyond amazing, remaking three games that were so hugely important to my life! The pokemon games (particularly the ones the legacy trio were based on) have been a constant source of comfort in my life, and lately I have ALWAYS been in the middle of a legacy run of some kind. I can't wait to get started on what seems like a perfect remake of one of my favorite games of all time, thank you guys!
Congratulations on the release, and thanks for the great rom! I've been playing Seaglass Emerald a lot lately, and now with Emerald Legacy, it's like a Gen III renaissance.
In the span of just a few days recently, we got the Elite Redux 2.5 beta, HodgePodge from Pebbler Platoon in preparation for next years release of Pisces, an update for Pokémon Quetzal and now this. An absolute Hoenn renaissance.
we specifically left him that way, actually. The way Feebas is obtained is very niche and Milotic is also much easier to get with the berry rework now. We felt that it was better to leave it that way, for those of you that still want the challenge of getting an early Milotic, while also not being in the way for those that want to complete the dex.
There's actually a calculator to get Feebas now. You have to have not touched your trendy saying but it makes finding a Feebas stupid easy. You can also just do the normal way and suffer 🥲
I’ve loved following these projects the past few years. So satisfying to see the cherished games of my childhood get the attention and respect they deserve while preserving their original identities. For sure the best ROM hacks I’ve ever played. Bravo Legacy Team 👏🏻
I was so unsure when you mentioned story changes, but they make so much more sense! The mechanics stuff is pretty standard nowadays due to romhacks (especially with Emerald!). So this was an interesting creative outlet where I think you and the team have done some great work!
In the last few months, i’ve been in the Legacy Discord Sever constantly joking about Muk, asking if it will get super op buffs. Now I started to unironically love Muk and will be using him during the game :))). Muk Monday forever.
I am very happy that your team added so much content to the post game. I am sure it was very hard to restrict your creative minds so that the main playthrough feels authentic, so it is awesome to see the creation of additional content alongside all those cool teams, to acknowledge that this game is a celebration of Gen 3, from it's in game experience, to the competitive metagame.
11:15 Breeding this is gonna be waaaaay easier than catching a feebASS (as someone who has completed the Hoenn dex in Emerald I have some traumatising experiences with feebASS)
You guys made revisiting these old games so much more enjoyable for me. I just finished Crystal Legacy and am jumping in head first into Emerald Legacy now. The improvements, balancing, and general making things make more sense has made this so fun. Thank you all
Legacy Team, y'all have been so awesome. Words do not express my appreciation for the time that y'all put it in to make this. Every Legacy version has reignited a passion for these games. The balancing, the ability to play the game differently without it being a randomizer, and the games being fleshed out with fun easter eggs. All of this together is amazing. Thank y'all again.
Thank you Smith and your development team for the legacy project. It's been an amazing journey, and we all appreciate the dedication you put into these projects! The least we could do in return for this amazing early Christmas present is subscribe. Heh heh
I said it when I first started playing Yellow Legacy but I'll say it again before starting Emerald: you guys really have made what I consider to be the finest ROMhack of all time for these games. You really made it feel like I'm 10 years old playing Ruby for the very first time. Knowing that every Mon is in the game to catch means there's nothing I can just write off, and having everything shifted around and balanced really brought back that sense of excitement. I went into it intending to do some kind of challenge run, like a Nuzlocke, but I didn't need it. Just being able to re-explore these games just like I did as a kid but with the trainers buffed to make it a challenge to an adult is just so meaningful to me. Thank you
The Legacy trilogy and the team behind it have made me feel like a member of a community. Logging into Pat's streams of playtesting, the amount of fun I have had without even playing the Rom Hack, and then when they release, being able to enjoy the fruits of your labor. It's been a grand time, and I am very much looking forward to the new videos coming next year and whatever comes next! The Legacy team did AMAZING work.
Wow. These drops have eclipsed my love for those very famous Pokemon cyphers, tbh (still love those tho). “Came up from Kanto.” Still have OG Yellow and Crystal versions in my old Pikachu Gameboy Color carrying case. If u kno u kno. Emerald is exactly when, many years ago, that I fell off and out of love for Pokemon games. Never ever got it. In hindsight, this should have signaled to me that my idyllic dreamland of Pokemon adventuring had come to its regretful end, with Ruby version specifically (which I own and love to this day). I have watched these videos and smtihplays closely over the years, had played Crystal Legacy so diligently even successfully thieving a lucky egg from a wild Chansey to fast raise my Larvitar. These legacy games ignite something akin to when in Pokemon Generations, Giovanni recalls during his difficult battle with Red, how magically thrilling it was to battle for the sake of battle. To love something for the sake of how it made you feel. The legacy series has allowed me to revisit tender and fading childhood memories. Of me being in the backseat of my dad’s car during weekend pickups, grinding out battles, and inducing headaches. Seeing Jazmine with Scizor use freaking agility I swear is just so cool. And so hardcore and surreal that I’m like, damn these recreations get you so much more closer to being in the anime - just like you wish it were as a kid. These love letter mods are as close to VR without actually being VR. Do you see what I’m getting at? Because to make something immersive you don’t need a 3D environment. You simply need what the legacy team has been able to achieve. Patience, care, some know-how, genuine passion, a bit of neuroticism maybe, but most importantly, a love for the game. Thank you to smithplays and to the team. You’ve created a worm hole for me and my younger self today to return to what could have been. I can’t wait to play emerald legacy for what is both literally and symbolically the first time ever. 🐉
Thank you to the entire team for all of your hard work. The last six weeks have been especially hard for me, as my wife and I unfortunately suffered a miscarriage in the first trimester. Playing Crystal Legacy on Hardmode has been an excellent distraction and has helped me take my mind off of how sad I've been when it was getting to be pretty hard to ignore. I can't wait to get Emerald Legacy loaded up and to jump back into Hoenn. You guys rule!
I’m so stoked about this!! I love love love to see fans really dig in and create something that comes so deeply from a place of sincere joy and appreciation. Gives me motivation to keep pushing on my own projects too.
This will actually be my first time picking up a Legacy game, but I've been following the trilogy since the very beginning stages of development on Crystal Legacy. I'm crossing my fingers for that Kanto expansion and holding off until it's fully done, so Emerald will be my first legacy playthrough! Thank you so much to the absolutely legendary team that made these games possible. 🧡
Thank you, Legacy team, for your amazing work. I'm passing through the ending of a phase of my life with the end of school, and one of the things that resembles to me the most about what my childhood was is Pokémon. Playing the Legacy games has been one of the best experiences that I've had with the series; it truly captures the feelings I got when playing when I was just a kid, so thank you so much for making masterpieces in the form of the legacy trio.
What an amazing journey. Crystal Legacy came at a time where my love for the franchise was really dwindling, and it single-handedly made me remember why I love Pokémon (and especially Gen 2) again. I was so excited to play Emerald Legacy that I bought a new Anbernic device just to play it in the best way possible. So a big thank you to the whole team! You all did some fantastic work on the three games so far, and I can't wait to see what you cook up next.
@@batmabel what core are you using? I typically run gbSP so that one of the triggers can be used to hold fast forward, but gbSP is saying my battery has run dry, even tho it works in other games, mGBA doesn’t give me the message but lacks the hold fast forward
Honestly I haven't played pokemon games in the last few years, but it's been a thrill to be getting back into the games through the legacy games with friends. You guys have done a phenomenal job with the series and I can't wait to play through my favorite region reimagined.
The amount of work done on this is incredible. All of the quality of life and extra additions really make the game something both new and nostalgic all in one go. Normally I don't feel the same spark of familiarity in romhacks because they change too much, but I can really feel the same energy and spirit in this one that is also in the base game. I really appreciate that you made the national dex spawns only available after the storyline has been completed, that is something that has always felt strange about the other romhacks that I have played. Great work everyone!!
There are a lot of emerald enhancement hacks out there. Emerald 386, Emerald Final, Kaizo Emerald, but getting to follow along this development give this the edge.
@@TheLostSheep578 It's a graphical demake, but otherwise all mechanics are enhanced to modern standards and sensibilities. I would call it an enhancement, straight up, it plays similar to or better than a modern entry in every way.
I will HAPPILY comment how the Legacy games affected me! This year was particularly difficult for my family. Extra special attention was needed from me and free time went out the window. Console gaming was my only real hobby and with added real world pressures, it was no longer giving me the same joy that I had been relying on for years. Enter your channel and my discovery of the first two Legacy games. Yellow and Crystal were my childhood loves but I'd fallen well out of touch with Pokemon once FRLG had been beaten (I've not played Gen 4 onwards). I promptly downloaded Yellow Legacy (Yellow was the game that helped teach me to read) and reconnected with a childhood world in my spare time. As it turned out, my son LOVED watching it. We played together for hours and hours as time permitted and this led to my first ever Pokedex completion. You guys take this for granted but the ability to complete the Dex is the best part of these games IMO. Our team went from Pikachu -> Zapdos, Mankey -> Nidoking -> Onix (awesome rework!), Gengar, Poliwhirl -> Gyarados, Vulpix -> Charizard, and Alakazam -> Mewtwo. When we started Crystal Legacy, it astounded me how much my son's speech has been developing (he has a stutter) and he knows SO many Pokemon now. My daughter has been getting into it, ans even my wife has enjoyed our little collective hobby. She'd never been a Pokefan. Our Crystal team has been Tyranitar, Houndoom, Gengar, Ariados -> Scizor, Starmie -> Kingdra, and Geodude -> Aerodactyl -> Lugia. In that time, we've seen all of the Kanto/Orange Islands anime and I've rediscovered my old Pokemon cards and bought a second hand collection for my kids. The anime has finally unlocked a happy way for us to introduce our kids to Friday movie night (my wife and I are movie buffs but we've shepherded the kids to outside play, so they hadn't embraced movies). Now my kids and I play the card game together too. Our house has become a Pokemon haven and its been the campfire that my family have embraced to connect on our deepest level yet. This all started from the Legacy games and I am so, SO, SOOO grateful to your efforts. I loved Ruby and Sapphire almost as much as FRLG and Yellow, but never got Emerald, so I cannot wait to bring this into our family. FINALLY I can play with a Milotic! Thanks so much for making this happen. Merry Christmas.
The legacy series has revamped my love for Pokémon as a whole and kickstarted a drive to male my own fakemon region. Progress is slow-going, but I've got 16 completed designs, a region map, and a bunch of ideas swirling around. The team is doing great work!
I've only now discovered this whole trilogy of legacy roms, genuinely inspired me to replay these games like I did when I was younger. Currently playing crystal and it's whole aesthetic is awesome, can't wait to see emerald and future projects.
I first started playing Pokemon when yellow version came out in time for my 7th birthday. It started a life long Pokemon journey that I am now getting to re-live with my son's through the legacy series. Thank you Smith plays and the legacy team you've brought so much joy 😊
I have LOVED watching this series and seeing how the games can be improved while still keeping with the spirit of the originals. There are so many rom hacks out there that just slide the power scale up to makie it feel "satisfying" or "harder," but I really love how... balanced this all feels. Trul;y an all-timer in terms of ROM hacks
This was a pleasure to watch. While I owned yellow and crystal as a kid, emerald was the first game I bought with my own money along with an SP mowing lawns cuz there was no way my dad would spend that much money on a new game and console. Emerald has a special place in my heart and it’s awesome to see others give it such love. I look forward to playing this and if you guys ever decide to sell physical copies of your roms I would buy day 1.
Gen Three is honestly my favorite, even though my adult brain knows my favorite Pokémon evolution line, Lucario, is technically a Gen Four. But I’ll always think of them as a Gen Three.
the legacy team made me feel like the concerns we all had since we were kids are finally being listened to. kudos to everyone. this task was monumental. you're all the GOATS
Emerald is my favorite Pokemon game. Rom hacks like this just make it feel better. Thank you for wanting to keep the feel the same while also making it more fun to play. Good job and congratulations on finishing.
Guys, you've outdone yourselves! I love the addition of innocuous fire types in the early game! The attention to detail was superb, and I'm dying to play through it on my GBA SP through my Super Card
Thank you for the incredible games! This year has been particlarly challenging, I had a huge injury that incapaciated me for the first 1/2 of the year, and then I started my first year of teaching followed by the birth of my first child. I was obsessed with Crystal and then Emerald as a kid, and the Legacy series has given me a way to expereice the wonder and fun all over again as well as being a method of escapism and to regulate my stress. Thank you again for all your hard work! I look forward to playing Emerald Legacy!!!
This series has definitely changed the way I’m going to be playing Pokemon from now on. I don’t even know how I can go back to the original cartridges. You guys have stayed faithful to the source material, while adding so much quality of life, and just straight up upgrades to this game. The legacy series is the only way for me to play Pokemon from now on.
It affected me in multiple ways but most importantly it was the rom hack I always imagined but was never capable of crafting it myself. The gameplay, the lore, the attention to detail, the love, it is a real joy to play. Thx Smith and team
Emerald legacy breathes a new life into one of my favourite games of all time! I'm sure it will give countless people a reason to revisit such a classic game and feel like they are playing it again for the first time! Thanks to you and the whole team!!!
I have only tried Yellow legacy but this is the one I was most hyped for as it's my favorite and hearing some of the story changes and progression, I definitely have a goal now to 100% emerald again only with more. I replay earlier gen games a lot and many of the fixes the Legacy team has made are things I've been wanting fixed for ages, as well as so much more I would've never thought of that just make sense and make all the original design features of the game actually enjoyable to play instead of feeling like a slog to get through for a specific thing, it's amazing work!
Playing the Legacy projects has been so refreshing. It feels great to come back to an old game with not a modern touch, but a an old touch that feels like it was there from the beginning. I haven’t finished Crystal Legacy yet, but I can’t wait to finish it!
While I haven't played the rom hacks, yet, my first Pokémon games growing up were both Ruby and later Emerald, so gen 3 overall. I've truly enjoyed the content you have created going back to when you and the team were making Crystal Legacy, which is when I first discovered your channel. It's so nice seeing people who are passionate about nostalgic things that they hold dear to them, to then improve them with a true sense of vision for others going forward. Keep doing what you do!
The amount of dedication and commitment for the increased longevity of these Pokemon games is astounding! I appreciate the ability to relive these games (and our childhood) with all the great quality of life improvements, thank you for the early Christmas present! Happy Holidays!
Im so excited to try out Emerald Legacy. I only played Yellow Legacy and I would say its affected me by making my experience that much more enjoyable revisiting these classics! Thank you guys.
Not entering. But the legacy team has effectively been the only reason I still play some form of video games for the last year and a half and it's been honestly the most fun and nostalgic trip ever Great work. And I absolutely CAN NOT WAIT.... to sink some hours into this final homage. Love you guys
My favorite thing is how I can play these romhacks and still get that good original feel but at the same thing it feels like a brand new experience. I'm still going through CL trying to 100% the game but I'm having a blast doing it. Thank you so much. Can't wait to do YL and then finally EL
The legacy trio was the best old Pokemon games experience I've ever had. Yellow, Crystal and now Emerald, I enjoyed so much to play those games that I'm so excited to know what's coming from your team. And I'm ready to help, too, because I loved your decision to make those hacks
Been really looking forward to this Romhack, Pokemon Emerald was the first game I ever owned as a kid and when I found out about this project it sounded like the perfect game to scratch the itch of wanting to play the same game but just that tiny bit different. Thank you to you and all the team, Im gonna go have a blast with this!! :D
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this amazing romhack. You guys did such an amazing job with this and can’t thank you enough. This romhack and the other two were both a fresh take on the games and while keeping the fundamentals of the games and keeping them to how they were when I played them as kids. It’s given me an opportunity to play them in a new way and keep the nuances and mechanics that were in the original games that I grew up with. Thank you so much for everything you guys do and enjoy the celebration of the release
Thank you to the Legacy team! I haven't played mainline games since ORAS, and have turned to ROM hacks to get a satisfying playthrough. The Legacy series has given my the perfect mix of nostalgia and competitive game play. They're wonderfully done, so thank you!!
I played the crystal legacy version and to see how much you have grown and love the team now tackling I think a lot of peoples favorite game in the series. I am excited to play this.
These legacy games really made my childhood get a fresh start. I am super happy to be able to introduce these to people who have never played pokemon games before because of their quality of life as well as the fact that buying authentic carts off ebay can now be 120-300$. I cant wait to turn my copy of legacy into a physical cart to play on my original GBA
I have had a lot of great memories bubble to the surface playing the Legacy trio. Really great execution of a vision just about every kid had playing these games. Recognizeably the original games but a bit better in every way. Thank you for the memories and the realization of that old daydream!

Just geniunely curious. 💚
This just makes me so happy, I love that people care about these games so much.
Can you please make a live chat with me and you smith player
No, that’s not really a gen 3 thing, more of a Gen 8 change so we didn’t do it

Hey Smith, I just found your Pokémon gaming content and it's amazing! I'm having a tough time lately, and playing your games is really helping me out. Big congrats to you and your team!
Thank you so much!! Have an amazing day!!
I assumed that was GF's intent to begin with honestly
@LoudWaffle Downgrading Steven probably didn't sit right

SmithPlays: “Feebas has been left unchanged.”
Me: "I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.”
Sheen being uncapped means no more unevolable Feebas so that is already a huge change.
@@Cr3zant Agreed, just pointing out that there was a big change.
@@Cr3zantthat not being changed actually does suck - there’s no appeal in that kind of ungodly rng grind
Yooo thank you so much!! It means a lot :)
@@Captain_Ford I got so used to using Bulbapedia

One note to anyone who is interested in playing on hardcore, I would only recommend playing on hardcore if you're not interested in playing the post game because it does still apply to the battle frontier.
What about hard mode? I'm considering it and on paper it seems to me that it actually makes some fights easier since opponents won't heal.
That's diabolical!
Thank you guys so much for the legacy trio, still haven't gotten around to Yellow, but Catching everything in Crystal and completing the game was one of the most fun experiences I've had with the older games in a long time (since i 100% the stadium games actually)
You guys have done an amazing job and all the little details all add up to make such wonderful games
i would love to see my personally favorite generation (Gen 4) be done as well, but if not, no hard feelings, I appreciate your time and effort ❤

Did you get the Cartridge?
Any update for the cartridge?
Did you also get the dead battery warning message first time playing?
I appreciate yall bringing my childhood back to life with these projects
Oh my GOD dude you GOTTA play unbound

Tbf, has nintendo put anything out for Legends Z-Λ at all beyond the teaser? It's frankly baffling how little they've done for it.
Bravo everyone involved. Love being able to play an updated version of my favorite games of all time.
@@_Fizzy_1 I'm actually starting this ROM release as my first game and then after I finish I'm going to switch over to Sea glass.
In the span of just a few days recently, we got the Elite Redux 2.5 beta, HodgePodge from Pebbler Platoon in preparation for next years release of Pisces, an update for Pokémon Quetzal and now this. An absolute Hoenn renaissance.
"Feebas has been left unchanged."
YOU MONSTER! ALL THE QOL AND YOU LEAVE THAT ONE THAT WAY!?!??!
we specifically left him that way, actually.

I am sure it was very hard to restrict your creative minds so that the main playthrough feels authentic, so it is awesome to see the creation of additional content alongside all those cool teams, to acknowledge that this game is a celebration of Gen 3, from it's in game experience, to the competitive metagame.

hoooly 1 hour video. Congratz on the release!
Thank you
So much thought and consideration went into making this game! Thanks so much everyone!
28:40 I feel that on a personal level. My trusty Lemon (Gardevoir) has carried T-Bolt in every game I had her on my team
I got the anbernic SP so I could play it 👀 I’m loving mine!
@@CasualCade Same, went with the SP for maximum nostalgia haha
@@batmabel who didn’t?! 😂
@@batmabel what core are you using? I typically run gbSP so that one of the triggers can be used to hold fast forward, but gbSP is saying my battery has run dry, even tho it works in other games, mGBA doesn’t give me the message but lacks the hold fast forward
@@CasualCade MGBA doesn't lack the feature. You need to go ibto retroarch and set a fast forward keybind.
I wouldn't call "Kaizo Emerald" a straight-up enchancement hack beacuse it's, well, _Kaizo_ but yeah.
Seaglass
@@maxpower2814Seaglass is more if an Emerald Demake with some enhancements then a straight up enhancement.

Amazing story!
The legacy series has revamped my love for Pokémon as a whole and kickstarted a drive to male my own fakemon region. Progress is slow-going, but I've got 16 completed designs, a region map, and a bunch of ideas swirling around.
The team is doing great work!
Dude - this is amazing! Aside from all the balancing, I really like the fact that you've made so many narrative changes. Attention to detail is insane
So glad the battle frontier hasnt been ignored like in almost every single emerald romhack
yeah boi! So excited!
For HMs, why not just turn it into items.
For example, Cut could be an Axe.
Way easier.
To big of a change I assume
Using your team to actually traverse is more meaningful in improving your connection to your Pokemon and mechanically in how you construct your team
At that point, make that if a pokemon can learn a MO, it doesnt need the move learnt to use it in the overworld
@@rever6612 I don't disagree with that. Simply gate the ability to use said traversal modes behind the badge requirements to limit where you can go.
So the reason is because obviously gamefreak wanted you to build your team around these we just didn't want to punish the player with permanent hms.
In the words of Count Dooku: "I've been looking forward to this~"
I have LOVED watching this series and seeing how the games can be improved while still keeping with the spirit of the originals.
Now we need a proper Gen 4 remake now.
The Legacy Duo has been an amazing experience so far. Thanks to the whole team for this, it really shows the love for the franchise.
That was absolutely incredible. I love the dedication you put on this.
You're a legend. Thanks a lot, guys. Finally time to finish a gen 3 game for the first time!!
Greetings from an old school Fire Red Fanatic
Im so excited to try out Emerald Legacy. I only played Yellow Legacy and I would say its affected me by making my experience that much more enjoyable revisiting these classics! Thank you guys.
Not entering. But the legacy team has effectively been the only reason I still play some form of video games for the last year and a half and it's been honestly the most fun and nostalgic trip ever
Great work.
I watched every stream for this project and am now playing it. Thank you and the team so much for this.
