    I’m so sad, idk what I’m doing wrong. Every time I try to pull the yarn tail to tighten the magic circle it doesn’t even budge. It’s like tied in a knot or something. It happens no matter how many times I restart and retry

    • @BeeBeeimonotfact
      @BeeBeeimonotfact 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would totally suggest making sure that the tail of the yarn is on the outside of your circle as you are adding your single crochets I find if I keep the tail on the inside of the circle, I cannot tighten it.... As long as you keep your tail outside of the work, it should work for you. I would suggest slowing down the video and doing it step by step. Maybe with a 4 weight yarn before... The magic circle took me over a year to get LOL. Don't get frustrated. Take your time. You can do it.

      @themaryjay  ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Yay :) I'm so glad that you were able to find it easier after learning the magic circle and single crochet! For anyone else who's also just starting out, I absolutely would recommend to first get more familiar with the basic crochet skills (at least the single crochet and magic circle) before attempting a plushie tutorial. Even though I try to explain all the skills in my video, it's hard to go into as much detail as one might need (when they're first starting out) in a long video with so much information to go over versus a tutorial that's dedicated to one specific skill. For those skills, here's my five must-know skills tutorial th-cam.com/video/Zm6lTub09lM/w-d-xo.html and detailed magic circle tutorial th-cam.com/video/4PgvFNZdNjc/w-d-xo.html

    Just finished my turtle! Here are my best tips for anyone else who might make my same mistakes since this was my first ever project lol:
    - Blanket yarn may be VERY difficult to identify stitches with
    - When I first started on the shell, I think I was adding stitches by assuming they were always growing outwards and not also down if that makes sense. So I was making the shell wider when it’s supposed to be getting wider and growing vertically. So if you’re struggling to find stitches visually, shift your angle a bit because I made my shell just a liiiittle lopsided but…
    - Stuffing WILL help makeup for any lumpiness!
    - Don’t assume you know where she’s going with the head sewing part and pause the video, missing the part where she reminds you that turtles have necks so you should give yours one too 🙃
    Super easy to follow tutorial and super cute little guy at the end!

    Tip: make the bottom of the turtle (well this looks more like a tortoise but I’ll take ur word for it) brown not green cuz turtles have a “shell” (it’s completely flat unlike the top one) on their belly too, I forgot what it was called lol.

    For closing up the hole for the shell of the turtle I didn’t have a needle so I used the crochet needle and I used the bent pit of the crochet needle for the place where you put the wool through and I used the bottom of the need as the place where you sew it through
    :it might sound confusing but basically if you don’t have a needle you can sew the hole up with the crochet needle :

    At 11:30 you cut the video and came back in the stitch was like in a different spot and and you're also crocheting from the outside and the inside and now I'm very confused

    • @themaryjay
      @themaryjay  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! I viewed the timestamp you commented and I think what you're referring to is that I flipped my piece from inside out to right way around. You can see me do this at 11:28. The strand of yarn at the center of your piece leftover from the magic circle should be on the inside of your plushie and you should be working from outside to inside on the closer edge of the circumference. If you're working on the far end and working inside to outside like I was for the first few rounds, you're technically working inside out and will have to flip it at some point. I usually flip it when the piece starts rounding out. When it's flat, it's easier for y'all to see what I'm doing if I work on the top edge and it was so natural to me to flip it that I didn't even notice and forgot to mention, so I'm sorry about that and hope this clears things up!
      In terms of the stitches, nothing has changed with the piece between the cut and coming back (what was cut out was just me unraveling more yarn to use).

      Make sure that you are working in the front loop only of the stitches from round 9 to make the last round of brown and then go into the back loop only (of round 9 again) for the first round of green.

    For anyone in an English speaking country not in America single crochet (sc) is the same as double crochet (dc). You’ll often see the increase annotated as 2dc into st, and the decrease annotated as dc2tog. Just thought it’s good to know if you turn to books

    This was such a life saver because since September I’ve been trying to learn how to make any kind of amigirumi for my niece and every tutorial I’ve watch haven’t been the easiest to learn from even though it’s stated that it’s for beginners. This Video has been by far the easiest for me to understand! Thank you for going slow and really showing us how it’s supposed to be done multiple times instead of just once!💜 my niece turned a month old today so I’m very happy I was able to finish this on my day off from work! This is a great project to start because it doesn’t take long to finish!
