No one sounded like U2. They brought unique sounds, power and subject matter to their music. They influenced so many bands that followed that is hard to appreciate now the influence they have had.
Sounded???? Sounds!
Unless I’m mistaken, this performance comes from their tour documentary film called Rattle and Hum. Great behind the scenes interviews. You should watch it and I think you’ll appreciate the band more.
You are not mistaking ;-)
Great song , a song written by Bono about the Heroin problem in Dublin in the 80’s
The version of this at Live Aid propelled U2 into Being a huge global rock band.
Ruby Tuesday is a Rolling Stones song . Bono has always liked to throw snippets of other artists songs in live versions of U2 songs.
A most underrated song by the greatest band from the 1980s. Thank you 😊
And 90’s :)
Their performance of this song at Live Aid is legendary. It’s up there with Queen’s Live Aid performance.
Dude, you can call these guys cheese or whatever but looking back, what performers these guys are! Especially Bono, total rock stars! Oh btw Ruby Tuesday was a Rolling Stones Song, so was the other one about "Pleased to meet you". Man, Bono was a freaking rock star!
🙌🙌🙌🙌🎶
Thank you, Brad!! Great song and live version! About heroin addiction!
Not fade away, Ruby Tuesday, Sympathy for the devil all Rolling Stones songs Bono manages to get into a song about Heroin addiction in Dublin! amazing one of their best.
"Wide awake!" That line lent itself to the name of a platinum selling EP the band released in 1985, Wide Awake in America, that featured a live version of "Bad", but this version looks to be from their Joshua Tree Tour. "Wide awake!" The song was clearly from the time before the reactionary backlash to wokeness. Heh. I was lucky enough to see U2 in concert three times back in the eighties, the first time during their Unforgettable Fire Tour in support of the album this song is from. For another live banger from them, also check out "Bullet the Blue Sky" from Rattle and Hum. PS. "Ruby Tuesday" is a classic Rolling Stones song.
👏👏👏 great album every song totally agree
Live Aid performance was amazing! i watched it live and recorded it on VHS tape!!!
Simply one of the best songs ever.
The sound comes from The Edge’s use of a dotted eighth note delay effect on his guitar. He plays in rhythm with the delay to add layers and texture. This song is about the plague of heroin addiction in their community, specifically inspired by the struggles of one of their childhood friends.
I was fortunate enough to be at the shows at the old McNichol's arena when this was filmed.
At the end the Ruby Tuesday…Pleased to meet you hope you guess my name were excerpts from Rolling Stones songs “Ruby Tuesday” and “Sympathy for the Devil”.
Look for Sunday bloody Sunday from the rattle and hum movie.
Great track
“They play a lot of U2 at Publix.” 😂😂
"goodbye ruby Tuesday" is a song by Rolling stones/melanie and the "Please to meet you' part is from the Rolling stones song "sympathy for the devil"
This U2's best song
And that's how you play live :-)
Just celebrated its 40th anniversary
live aid version is goat
The song is about battling drug addiction
This Video is from the rattle and hum DVD/Video. It's Not on the Album released.
Impressive song!
Oh man I didn't know you had your own channel so just now so sorry I'm late to the party but I'm at the party now
Best and classic live version is here: th-cam.com/video/dKWb4xuxnmk/w-d-xo.html
"Bad" is about a friend of theirs battling heroin addiction, but dying of an overdose. 😥
Ummm… am I the only person to say that this version is completely omitting the falsetto parts! Like the most iconic part of the entire thing?! Strange I never realized until now. 😂
At this point of the tour, Bono's voice was so cooked that he couldn't hit those notes anymore.
Great song. Album version is a bit different but just as great. Ruby tuesday and please to meet you are from 2 different rolling stones songs he added for the live shows.
There are live performances of Bad thatvi feel are better than this- this is from their movie Rattle and Hum.
personally, pre-Joshua Tree U2 was incomparable and the pinnacle of their alternative post-punk cutting edge appeal to me. Their sound soon devolved and was overcome by bluesy Americana/90's rock and roll influences afterwards.
Man where have you been? I haven't seen you in like a hundred years!
The live version of this song is better.
This is live…
@@nianfiedler9691 I meant specifically the version "Bad Live" from the album Wide Awake in America.
I always like the studio version with the sound of the symbol going from one ear to the other!
