You might also wish to include the main police station in Louisville, which has a small armory on the second floor, and behind that a room with lots of metal shelves that look like an evidence room, but is full of guns and ammo instead.
You missed quite a few spots unfortunately. In the middle far west of the map is a small area with a diner, gas station and a hunting store. slightly more to the east, basically between that area and the first army surplus you mentioned is a big park ranger house in the woods near the lake. Then you have phallus lake with a police station and the rural supply store which also has an armory inside. These locations are also easily accesible when you start in rosewood and get a car, which makes rosewood one of the best starting locations for a gun playthrough imo. If you can find a working vehicle early. besides from that there is also the small military checkpoint at the east entrance to louisville and it is also mentionable that most watchtowers around both checkpoints can have ammo. Oh, and if you are lucky and get the annotated map pointing to the millitary dormitory in march ridge you can get tooooons of weapons and ammo there. Dangerous place though depending on zombie pop settings. Never go there unprepared. :D
Well there is still something. Near the dixie there is small house where is labolatory like in breaking bad and there you could find some weapons maybe not much but still
for riverside there is a self storage buildings out of town (near trailer spawn houses). There should be 2 different storage cell containing gun locker and its guaranteed to be containing firearm & couple of ammo and mags, but hey its worth checking.
I knew there is a gun store inside Ohio Mall, but.... the thing is, I didn't knew at the time it was THE MALL. It was my main goal while visiting Louisville, to loot that gun store. I thought it's a smaller mall and I expected a decent amount of zombies here but I wasn't prepared for a actual number of them. So I entered Louisville and proceed up East to the mall, I made my way to West entrance and I was greeted by a small horde, I easily managed to clear it. I stepped inside killing few more zombies and was walking towards the gun store when more of them started going after me.. I play with survivors/NPCs mod so thankfully I wasn't alone there, this mod has one major downside which I'll say more about in a moment. I was using fireaxe but eventually I had to equip my rifle which was strapped with suppressor, it didn't help a bit because huge chunk of Mall's population already knew I was there. I decided to leave my NPC companions and enter gun store by myself, I quickly killed everyone inside and begun looting whatever loot I saw, I had to act quick because each second was one less percent for me to leave alive. I've managed to take 2 pistols and whole lot of .553 and 9mm ammo boxes, at the time and situation I was in, it was extremaly great loot but I couldn't really enjoy it yet. When I was leaving the gun store, I couldn't see my companions because they panic and run away if they are outnumbered, they were alive tho since I saw their names, there was also no zombies too close to me, I've used the opportunity and managed to leave. While running towards the exit, my companions joined me, unfortunately we were cut short by zombies leaving from grocery store and toy store I believe, we had to fight. Remember when I've said that NPCs panic while outnumbered? Yeah well they tend to push you while panicked, one of them pushed me right onto a group of zombies... I survived but got bitten and almost bleed out. It was yesterday and today my character finally died. It was a great run lasting almost 4 months, kinda sad it ended like that.

Isn't it weird that in Kentucky, a state with a 51% reported gun ownership rate, that guns are rare?, or that in a state with 94% car ownership, that cars are rare?
I think the reason why we can find weapons at all is because they were so popular to begin with. Most people must have tried to leave, crashed, wasted ammo, stockpiled them in unknown places in the wilds, etc.
Uh, you can just change the settings. Then the game becomes a different one. Instead of fighting to survive you become someone who was born to rid the world of zombies.
Thing about surplus store - as far as i know, if you playing with loot respawn on, it will never respawn anything, both in singleplayer and multiplayer. Not sure if it is because of mods or its vanilla thing too.

It takes patience to clear out hordes and a really nice fence to preserve durability. Easily level up aiming with shotgun. like what the other guy said.
I recommend downloading the Louisville shipping port mod because if you use your sledgehammer and destroy some containers open, you can find a huge stash of guns
There's a hunting store a bit to the northwest of Riverside that has light to moderate zombie activity, no security doors, and a decent enough haul of ammo and firearms. It's a little out of the way but worth hitting if you're in the area. It's also not too far from a hunting cabin deep in the woods that has an antique oven.
The prison is "a rite of passage for new players", you say? Challenge accepted, my friend. 🧟Now I just have to figure out how to schlep all my stuff from Riverside to Rosewood 🚚

From a guns perspective, if you’re confident enough I’d say go for west point. It’s also the closest spawn to Louisville for when you want to transition there :)
Imo rosewood to the military surplus store out west, then stop into doe valley on your way to loui, for the rural supply store and the police station. Easy sailing from there.
I'm seeking help from the PZ community. I'm trying to run Britas but cant tell if its working right? I can barely find guns in peoples houses unless its a survivor house. Once in a while I'll find a gun case but it's either a pistol or just a box of ammo. I find a good amount in police and military places and some conceal carry purses on zombies. I do have no pre 93 guns on but it still feels super bugged for me.
POV: when you're new to Project Zomboid, and you've managed to survive long enough to feel excited at the fact that you actually went to the gun store to the west, killed the crap-ton of zombies, find the loot and say to yourself "YES! Jackpot" then you watch this video and discover that it's "easy" to clear it out and the loot is just... Decent. 😢
Late to the party but y'all sleeping on March Ridge. Dormitory has more guns and ammo in its closets/dressers combined than any other building I've seen (750-1000 weight worth)

Bring an axe or a sledgehammer to crush the doors to the armory. Or loot all the Zs you killed in the building. They always have a chance to drop a key for the building they died in.

I always thought it was a storage room, but they re-arenged it into armory because they needed more guns and weapons in last two weeks

Not sure if you could still benefit of this trick, but use shotguns to level aiming skill fast.
