I just died after 2 weeks by falling over a fence and getting bitten on the neck by a zombie that rushed round the corner of a building for a snack, truly a 10/10 experience, here we go again!
One thing I always look for in a base is a _small_ kitchen (with a lot of storage, but physically as small as possible). The smaller it is, the easier it is to have access to multiple storage units from a single tile. That means your character will automatically use the right cooking implements, and the right-click menu will show you all available ingredients and condiments. If your kitchen is too big, you'll have to walk around while adding different ingredients.
Absolutely, especially when considering how the fridge and cupboards are arranged. The stove can be off to the side, but the tighter the recipe creation area is, the easier. My armory is a mess, but my kitchen is run like the damn navy in this game.
You should note that building barricades on the outside also attracts zombies because it’s a player made construction and they gravitate towards those. If you barricade the inside of the window, zombies are not attracted to the barricades.
Everyone acts like hot wiring cars is the only thing burglar offers but at least for me it’s definitely the +3 nimble from the start which is huge for melee combat.
@@Kanapka64 i have never really done shooting professions early game because i dont like using guns close to my base until i have enough ammo to kill all of them
I always grab an empty notebook for important stuff cause i sometimes take multiple day breaks from PZ so its nice to write down import things, tasks and items to look for when i come back.
Dude the quality of your videos and commentary is top notch. New PZ player here and got my feet wet in 41, trying 42 today. Please keep this series up, it’s helped a lot!
For me the perfect zomboid "advice" trifecta is Duck being so correct it's clear he almost wants to go into the math of it all, Lime being extremely sensible but burning his food on day one. And Nurse having a near panic attack when realising build 42 made her punch zombies while holding a mouse. It's all very informative, not equally advisable.
Did that exact thing @5:10, survived with a boarded up safe house for 1 week in Rosewood just to get bitten in the hand from not realizing you can hit spacebar to cancel attacks and shove the enemy: live, die, learn
Love the new series! Look forward to to the next video! Ive been playing around with the new build and am loving it! Still think a few things need to be tweaked tho
Thank you!! I've really enjoyed doing something new :) I'm going to be digging into crafting guides, tips & tricks specific to B42 and lots of other stuff after the holiday period is over.
@ that would be ideal. It’s literally the only part I dislike about 42. Didn’t like muscle fatigue at first, but now I love it; it forces you to think about every fight, every task. It’s genius.
@@MrAtomicDuck I don't understand why you want to keep all those keys? Do you really need keys for two dozen random houses? Especially if you've already unlocked the doors. I usually just dump the key at that point into a bookshelf or something inside the house. Even on multiplayer where locking things might actually matter, you probably don't need too many lockable doors to dismantle and take back to your base unless playing on a PvP server.
@@FengShuiDandy It's mostly just a "well now I have to worry about organizing keys along with all the other crap in my base" sort of deal. Like, if the keys had a weight before and it was always that way then I'd understand but I don't see this as necessary. Maybe they should add a toggle option for it and have it on by default if they really wanted. I know there's a mod to remove it but having options in game by default is always better imo.
@@FengShuiDandy I just asked the same thing. Seems absolutely pointless to hoard keys and on top of that, rename them and also clutter the map with the key names?? What is the reason for that? Once a house has been looted, and eventually you have added useful notes on the map (books here, food here, etc) what's the point? The only key I can see a reason to keep is the one to your own safehouse, as some zombies can open doors and it's better to lock behind when you are in.
As a returning player, this build 42 brings a lot of freshness to this incredible game. First run yesterday: good looting, found a decent car, dead for a bite on the neck from a Z placed right on top of the stairs of a building (no escape situation). I can’t wait for a new video from you about the essential mods already available for build 42.
My first character of build 42 is on day nine now and im about to go try to clear out the new giant guns unlimited store, wish Simon Pegg (Shaun) good luck.
I think it's worth noting that tv shows seem to currently be capped at only getting you to level 3, too, so it's even less of a priority to catch them all. Just a tip to those who (like me) can get really obsessive about trying to catch them all in those first few weeks -- now you're freed up to spend that time looting and exploring and just catching them when it's convenient.
I cannot wait to see what you and the team will cook up in the years to come for wilderness survival/rebuilding of society type stuff on the patreon server!
I find that knives work a lot better in 42, to the effect I can use them to actually fight. I start with Burger Flipper and Hunter though so I have a couple ranks in short blade.
Have you figured out the profession XP gain (namely, carpentry) yet? The B42 notes say they removed XP gain from disassembling furniture because they didn't want people to essentially delete all furniture from multiplayer servers. But there's no multiplayer in B42, and I _do_ get some carpentry XP for disassembling furniture, it just stops working after a couple of items. Is it a maximum of N XP points _per day?_ Is it a maximum of N XP points _per type of item_ disassembled? There doesn't seem to be much reliable info about how it works in B42. Coupled with how rare nails seem to be (and how every low-level recipe needs nails - have they never heard of screws or glue?), it can be really hard to build rain collectors by the time the water shuts off (unless RNG graces you with a box of nails).
I've been unable to play since the 22nd, but crafting will be one of the things I dig into very soon! I'll try to get some reliable info out there once I know how it works.
The keys spawn in zombie’s inventory when you kill them. If you haven’t found a key for a building (e.g., police station lockup/armory) after clearing it out, you can lure zombies from outside into the building and kill them inside. Then eventually, after killing a couple, one will spawn the building’s key.
I just started playing this week. I've noticed that If you hover over the keys it should highlight the doors it goes for. But catorizing where they are on a map is pretty handy as well.
Can’t wait to get home tomorrow and try out the new build. A good excuse to start back in riverside. I’ve seen a number of complaints about combat fatigue. Isn’t there a setting in the sandbox options to turn it down or off if you don’t like it?
anyone else notice zomboids spawning right behind you? Like, ill clear an area, and turn a corner of a yard ive already cleared and theres 5 new zeds that werent there 5 mins before?
You can wait to watch shows until you have the VHS tapes and the book. Read the book, get the bonus, then start watching the tape, which is essentially a recording of the broadcast show.
I've manually set the muscle-strain multiplier to 0.3. There simply isn't enough to do while you're resting from combat. Devs need to implement a sliding-scale that slowly lowers your muscle-strain multiplier the more you use a muscle.
You forgot to mention that keys for cars can be found on nearby zombies or the house or the driveway they’re parked in. I’ve broken unnecessary passenger windows to find the key in the house or on a zombie.
2:40 - I've broken windows and cleared out broken glass from them holding a tin can and even a rag. Not sure if that's a bug or it'll be fixed at some point but you really don't need a weapon specifically AFAIK.
Note: as far as I have found with my character, watching the TV shows while they play only takes me to level 3, I have not gained any experience from watching them since hitting level 3 in carpentry and cooking.
A note on removing broken glass - I don't believe it needs to be a weapon per se. I think as long as you have an item equipped in your primary hand you won't get cut. I may be wrong, and this might not be the case in b42, so test at your own risk.
yea I think even items without a 3d model can do it, can't tell for sure but I used to play with a mod that made the map all beat up from the start and I remember removing glass from windows on really freaking dire situations lol, so I think almost anything works.
16:41, This is the same for real life, lol! You'll have like 500 rounds of 5.56x45mm NATO, and think you have a lot, then you go through 10 mags at the range, and are like, "Oh, no, I'm almost out of ammo again!" For real, you buy a box of 100 rounds of shotgun ammo, go to the trap range and realize that was only good for 4 rounds (our range does $5 for 25 clay pigeons). Not even an hour of shooting. Then you stock up, have a couple thousand rounds, and then everyone calls you a crazy person, and asks you why anyone needs so many rounds. SMH. Ammo gets used fast.
Now, help me not really wanna see whats behind the rattling door. Its was 5 zombies. Thats whats behind the door. Also, tips on what goals, actions to take on death/rebirth would be helpful. This is still something I wanna do as it's a new style, it's fun and they are relatively easy for me to pump out while I'm building videos that take a lot more time commitment likes "tips and tricks" or deep dives on crafting :D
opinion of short blunt or short bladed now the better wepon as the need to carry a flashlight once power goes out? i know there are new lamps for hats and belt but that depends on you finding them
short blunt is way better, short blade tends to not do a lot of damage, can only crit if a zombie is alone, and rarely do they multi hit. Meanwhile something like a police baton does good damage, multi hits, crits normally and doesn't damage zombie clothes if you want to take them, even a wrench can work in a pinch.
Question. I have a Character that has not sleep for about three consecutive days now. It has the smoker trait but is stressed at max as I don’t find cigarettes. Do you know of that is the cause of lack of sleep?
I mean, I'm bias as this is my main game, but I've got over 1,500 hours and I'm still enjoying the new mods, updates and ways to play :) Hopefully that's a good indicator.
It’s on sale, I 100% recommend this game. Play the regular version first and don’t go for the new unstable version. Once you get a hang of it, check the workshop and mods will make everything even better.

I've just bought it last week, it's addictive 😅 definitely a good purchase, it's a hard game but so much fun!
rosewood fire station bookself has never had any books when you find a "perfect" car but the doors are locked so ya gotta break a window. wish there was a way to jimmy open a car door since we can hotwire them love the changes you can see the trunk in van cars when in the drivers seat soda is currenlty bugged i had a char just drinking em he didn't sleep for like a week
the "simple lockpicking" mod let's you do that with a screwdriver and paperclips, "common sense" lets you do it with a crowbar too. I always miss those mods when I have to play without them.
You can sleep with pillows!? I have so many hours and I never even thought about that! Then again, mostly played with friends so sleep has never been a problem
Ngl, I never played as a proper burglar. I only chose it for the hot wiring and would throw myself at zombies lol I'd be the one taking out hordes not hiding from them
Can't say for sure if I have one at base already, sometimes I just miss things, talking through everything in the moment means I'm somewhat preoccupied at times 😅
I am playing on survival difficulty and the zombie population is kinda too much for me. I have killed 80 by day 2 and suffered a number of jumpscares. How is everyone coping with the zombie population?
In the early game I usually avoid any building with tons of zombies, in this build places with a lot of loot and commercial zones tend to have a bunch of zombies, so I just stick to residential areas. You can also attempt to bait them, since zombies are slower than your actual base walking speed. Just mash Q to scream at them and slowly walk somewhere else, then try to escape. Cars are pretty good at baiting too since their horn is loud AF and you can move outta there real quick. But I only recommend baiting them like that once you have decently good items, because you'll have to fight a bit to get away from them. If you have guns and ammo you can take advantage of their loudness to bait zombies too, just have a escape route in mind and it can work smoothly. but basically, try to avoid them, if you can't, try to lure them, and only them you fight what remains, at least that's how I usually think about it, unless you're really stocked up and can just shoot your problems away lol
Just level up your weapon skill, with skill 4+ its almost non existant and only serves as to make sure you cant kill 200 zombies in one go, it makes sense now.
I can't understand why clutter the map with naming the buildings and naming the keys. Who cares once the house has been opened, unless you want to use it as a base, if you keep the key or not?
I feel it's checking off looted buildings to an extremely precise measure. I don't care for it either. Because if anything's locked i kick in the door, waving the four four.
I don't understand why you're putting so much effort into marking down keys and houses...you're not going to lock and unlock those doors ever again? And you don't need the keys ever again? You only need car keys...Right?
Yeah, it's mostly for folks like me that appreciate the completionist approach and wanna manage their keys :) Previously we used to be able to pick them all up, so this ensures they can still do that if they want to. No real functional purpose to it.
@@MrAtomicDuck I've got a sort of system going for that, but with a lot less effort. I hold onto key-RINGS, and will name them after a neighborhood, and keep any house keys on that ring, but don't keep the ring on me. Car keys however, will stay on my main ring, unless the vehicle is useless to me, in which case I leave it's key in the glove compartment.
Some games just aren't built for you and thats okay :) PZ is one of the most detailed zombie games out there with tons of modding to offer hundreds of different ways to play. It's not hard to see what people like about that.
Small tip: If you hover over a Key with your Mouse it highlights the Doors it can lock/unlock
Greatly appreciate this as a beginner/returning player

There is. In the Sandbox settings, there is an option to limit the TV shows until level 3.

when you find a "perfect" car but the doors are locked so ya gotta break a window. wish there was a way to jimmy open a car door since we can hotwire them love the changes you can see the trunk in van cars when in the drivers seat
soda is currenlty bugged i had a char just drinking em he didn't sleep for like a week
the "simple lockpicking" mod let's you do that with a screwdriver and paperclips, "common sense" lets you do it with a crowbar too.
I always miss those mods when I have to play without them.
You can sleep with pillows!? I have so many hours and I never even thought about that! Then again, mostly played with friends so sleep has never been a problem
It is a new feature in b42, more comfort with a pillow, you can even use it with a bedroll and a tent
New thing in B42!
ever gotten a minute long unskippable wix ad?
Oof. You hate to see it.
Not on this channel, but I’ve gotten a 40 second unskippable sports gambling ad before 🚨
Ad block, hacked app or pay for premium brotha.
Yea super scammy on TH-cam part . You can’t even fall asleep to your favorite youtubers voice in peace
@@rtruth9832i mean if you arent paying them then someone has to
Ngl, I never played as a proper burglar. I only chose it for the hot wiring and would throw myself at zombies lol I'd be the one taking out hordes not hiding from them
Enjoy those 7 day playthroughs ;-)
My laptop keeps crashing while trying to launch b42 😅 so in the meantime i’ll just watch your video’s
i dunno if it's happening to others, but i can't sterilise water on a bonfire, no matter what the container is.
Do you know where to get clay?
You have to forage it, you will find it on roads and on vegetation areas...pretty common, limestone is extremely rare...
@@elgringo9327 thank you
more more more - lets go to day 200 lol
Positive comment.
Thanks!
Wooooooooo!!!!!
😁
1:47 You missed a welder mask! Or did you leave it on purpose?
Can't say for sure if I have one at base already, sometimes I just miss things, talking through everything in the moment means I'm somewhat preoccupied at times 😅
@@MrAtomicDuck Thank you for the reply! Can't wait for B42 to be multiplayer.
@@nickkiller-0710 Thank you for the advice. Personally, im too big of a wuss to bait them. I would usually lure a couple out and pick them off 1v1.

@4:37 did you just say MASSIVE do you know what else is massive
When was build 42 multiplayer going to be a thing btw? Great Video
Gimme day 3.

Appreciate you.
@@MrAtomicDuck mmmmwah :*
ive hot 428 hours on PZ, the new b42 is ez peazy lemon squezy the only thing that kills me is THE FRIKING MUSCLE STRAIN UGHH
You can turn it off in the sandbox settings if you're not a fan. Not that huge of a deal 😄
@@MrAtomicDuck oh that's nice, ty
Just level up your weapon skill, with skill 4+ its almost non existant and only serves as to make sure you cant kill 200 zombies in one go, it makes sense now.
@@Keegan_Marcusthat being said if you turn it off you are a wussy
I can't understand why clutter the map with naming the buildings and naming the keys. Who cares once the house has been opened, unless you want to use it as a base, if you keep the key or not?
I feel it's checking off looted buildings to an extremely precise measure. I don't care for it either. Because if anything's locked i kick in the door, waving the four four.
Bc the keys have weight now
What’s the purpose of keeping keys to every house you loot, even if you don’t plan on going back?
No functional purpose tbh, I'm just a completionist and I know others are too :)
FIRST
Thanks for the support :D
I don't get why anyone would like this game
Some games just aren't built for you and thats okay :) PZ is one of the most detailed zombie games out there with tons of modding to offer hundreds of different ways to play. It's not hard to see what people like about that.
Why are you bothering to take all these regular keys?
Cuz
On my run, zero 🪓 inside the building, but there were 3 trucks parked with 4 in them. Never had this in build 41.
Wow!! Jackpot
