This is so cute! Love seeing other TH-cam couples out there. My husband and I are 23 and live on our sailboat, preparing to sail around the world. that's actually what our channel is about haha!
Build the wall frames, put 1 sheet on each corner to make it square, put a long 2x4 on tractor bucket pointing forward, tie down to bucket, put strap on frame where window goes, attach to tractor, Lift in place, gives you more reach, then fix rest of boards. Dont forget to put plumbing in,Put up 3 walls then Concrete floor, good surface to work from, and if you wait untill all walls up will have trouble laying concrete!!.
Seen basements of homes already built pouring the basement floor last. It's no biggy. You build it however u feel comfortable building it. Everyone has a perspective of how it should be built. But in the end it's your build site not theirs. God bless be safe. Jim
Wow! Marty , you are looking like an experienced builder! Good for you! Isn't it amazing the amount of new information a person can master when its a "buck stops here" scenerio? Congratulations!
I'm 76 and still buying and upgrading my carpenter tools. You can never have to many tools. This year I have myself Bosch 10in. Jobsite table saw and 12in. Axial glide chopsaw. Merry Xmas to me. Da D was carp., I have been tile cont., Gen. Cont., Framer, cabinet maker, and remodeler. The right tools for the job make all the diff.. for long drill bits I used ship augers (18 in.) For jbolts sesmic etc.plate markers, chanel markers.....
Martie you are making real progress with the build . Seth is growing really well and getting tall and strong. Love the video. Regards from Barbados. 🇧🇧🇧🇧
Excellent work and congratulations for your family work, you can see that there is dedication in the project you are carrying out, greetings from San Felipe Chile
If you get one or two four by four by twelve feet put a eye bolt at the end. Put the poles under the bucket then take a chain over the bucket loop them on both sides of the bucket then use a chain binder to make tight. Use a strap or a chain if you want. I have used this method before. If you want you can also use steel pipe with at least quarter inch wall. This might help keep up the great work.
I like this building system. In Italy we have few woods and wood costs a lot. And in the summer we have a big fire risk because there are vacant lots with dry bushes. We build with cut stones, bricks of dimensions and substance of many kinds. Concrete pillars and beams with abundant iron for earthquake breakage prevention. Don't you have large concrete bricks in the USA with padding made from pieces of wood? With bricks it is very easy to build walls.
Lately I haven't been much for wearing a mask to separate myself from the lemmings, but all that dust would be a justified need. I do like your demolition shirt! Be Blessed
Marty, I would have thought that you would have put some stone on the outside around the walls for drainage. I wonder if you will put some drain lines in the garage. Sewer lines to let the water out when you park wet cars in the garage. Sometime you can put some epoxy into the holes to help hold those bolts. I noticed you could have added a place for a water line into the garage. The wife and son should have safety glasses and hearing protection on. Marty use some straps on the bucket when lifting those walls.
One wall at a time. Seth has really hit a growth spurt. Fine young man. Jules is amazing! Keep up the good work. What about utilities? No electric/water/sewer/gas in garage? upstairs bath? I'm sure it will all be reveal soon. Love it!
Just a little reminder, when picking up walls always tack a kickstand on the ends . So as you pick it up it holds your place. Also, didn't notice if your sheathing go's down below the plate. Good show, I'll keep watching you keep going. Don't worry about the floor.
Before you pour the inside floor, make sure you really soak that 3-4 feet inside perimeter. Your middle is already undisturbed, but that 3 feet in from the wall will shift if not really compacted.Good luck.
I always like watching you all work together. I cant wait to get started on our pole barn. One last clearing and leveling and we are a go! We may be building in dead of winter..lol. we are just south of you.
i'm sure you know, but they make forks for the bucket on the tractor. if you use the forks, and straps around the top of the walls, you can pick the walls up a lot easier
Not really surprised you all couldn't lift the wall. I mean maybe if you framed with 2 x 4's it may have been possible. But 2 x 6" and OSB sheeting and it takes a lot of effort. And the key is to NOT over push everyone's abilities and get hurt and then everything has to come to a halt. Easy does it and you can continue on. Over do it and it could come to a total stop until you all heal up... Safety first!
I’ll tell ya what, those Ryobi tools have built everything on that site, not bad at all, I’m amazed Milwaukee or another “big brand “ hasn’t jumped on board and supplied you with tools .....
Martin Johnson - Off Grid Living dont want this to come across the wrong way but I see nowadays as soon as a female tradie gets a little following on Instagram, brands through tools their way, it really annoys me ..... if I was a rep for a tool company, I’d be offering you tools , this channel has a big following, and I’d be guessing that a lot of followers do a lot of DIY 🤷♂️
I enjoy watching your videos and seeing what your family is up to. Some constructive criticism though, It is tempting to use a music bed too much of the time. This requires your viewers to not only like your content, but also not be aggravated by the choice of music. Just the background noises or even silence is often preferable to the over use of a music bed. I mean, sometimes you are even using it (ducked a bit) while you are speaking. Please think about this in the spirit the comment is intended.
soaringtractor That’s ok because I wasn’t talking to you. I’m glad you’ve found your place in life... talking for everyone!! Be kind, it costs nothing!!
Martin your the Boss Man and expecting to lift that wall was dangerous and crazy ,people are going to get hurt we are talking about your Wife and Son Man ,put up the frame then the panels .enough said.
I am fascinated by your construction. 2X6 is the way to go for insulation. Question: I build an addition to my home using 2x6 (With a 9' ceiling basement. The basement walls extend over 3 feed over the ground I noticed you did not use termite shields. Are there no termites in your area, or at least to reduce the change of termites, or ants invading the home?
Watching your videos from the start of construction. I'm from Brazil and the construction style is very different. In Brazil it is much more complicated to obtain the permits and the land is very expensive. The permissions here are also expensive and bureaucratic.
@@MartinJohnsonOffGridLiving I am thousands of kilometers from the jungle hehe. I actually live in the most developed state of Brazil (São Paulo). The problem here is political and not geographical. I think the North American lifestyle is excellent. I would love to get out of the 'jungle'.

Since the walls are so heavy - is it possible to split them in two parts and nail them together in the middle. What are the contradictions to such an idea?
Two things you should really address as safety concerns. That you have no caps on those rebar tips is a trip away from an impalement. The other kind of surprises me is that I see no masks on. That is some serious dust you are kicking up. You need to protect your lungs.
@@MartinJohnsonOffGridLiving So was it bolts I saw sticking up from the wall near the start of the video? If you are not using sill gasket, grab a tube of clear silicone caulk and run it along where the wood meets the concrete. This is good progress. It is exciting.
Not really extra work Marty, as tight as you have that Base now . You'll not be risking cracking a concrete slab with heavy equipment raising the walls keep it up .

To frame who...?
It is more usually to leave the compacted gravel 4 inches below the door openings on a garage if I'm not mistaken.
Maybe we are doing it wrong.

You should have added insulation on your floor of your garage before you pour the flooring this would help your Energy Efficiency of everything
We have poured the floor yet. But we won’t be adding insulation because it is just a garage and won’t he heated regularly.
Keep 😀
