I have the Skyrim cookbook which has lore on it (some other sources might say otherwise), but it says they aren't allowed to harm plants. They can eat fruit that has already fallen from the tree, as long as they replant it afterwards. I think they can pick up twigs found on the ground for fires. They eat a lot of raw meat though, because their fires are always sparse, and sometimes they can't have them at all. That's just what I read, though.

I always thought the various masked helmets were a fun idea for the gourmet. Even while cooking with an assistant, he remains completely anonymous. No one would bother him on the road, trying to rob, or fan-mob him.
The Orc one was the funniest because the real gourmet was an orc. So what she said to the orc in this video is what she would have said to the real gourmet.
Its 2 years later but youtube recomendation bring me her so, I always love the Dark Brotherhood and The first time I saw that the "Gourmet" was an Orc I was really happy because my first character was an Orc so this was a perfect infiltration with my cooking clothe.

In Tamriel, I believe that the race of the child in a union between two dissimilar races is almost entirely determined by the race of the mother. I could be wrong, I don't exactly know, feel free to do some wiki research and develop your own opinion. I can only think of one example of a mixed race NPC in the elder scrolls and that would be the Grey Champion in the arena in Oblivion. I believe it is often a cultural taboo in most cultures in Tamriel to interbreed with other races, however in the cases where it does happen it only seems to have a slight effect if any.

I remember my first time playing this quest. Showed up in full daedric armor. "yup I'm the gourmet. The dude that looks like he can devour your soul makes the best food in skyrim."
I always thought the various masked helmets were a fun idea for the gourmet. Even while cooking with an assistant, he remains completely anonymous. No one would bother him on the road, trying to rob, or fan-mob him.

In Tamriel, I believe that the race of the child in a union between two dissimilar races is almost entirely determined by the race of the mother. I could be wrong, I don't exactly know, feel free to do some wiki research and develop your own opinion. I can only think of one example of a mixed race NPC in the elder scrolls and that would be the Grey Champion in the arena in Oblivion. I believe it is often a cultural taboo in most cultures in Tamriel to interbreed with other races, however in the cases where it does happen it only seems to have a slight effect if any.
