Acura is shifting to AWD, It seems that Sport Hybrid SH-AWD will become the norm.. Also Honda is working on a 11 speed 3 Triple Clutch in house DCT so odds are Acura is getting it first like all past new transmissions (6 speed, DCT, ZF).
The Accord Hybrid doesn't have an actual transmission. They call it an eCVT but it's actually the ICE driving the first electric motor which is acting like a generator to drive the 2nd electric motor which drives the wheels. The only time the ICE is actually connected directly to the wheels is at highway speeds while cruising.
Kinda late reply but didn't watch this video until now. Anyway, I wonder if this transmission is simpler than an actual CVT, since it looks like the ICE only has a clutch that is either engaged or not, but no gears or pulleys to speak of.
why is everyone calling this "gay" and "outdated?" like I get it that Honda did not really update it as much as they could've, but I think that this is actually a beautiful car. the back of the car looks similar to that of a bmw, and the front LEDs look very elegant and expensive. in all, I know I'd love to drive this as it is truly a really nice car for both quality and gas mileage.

@@phamster18 Sorry about the year late reply. Hybrid battery’s been fine. I had to replace the starter battery and got a higher spec aftermarket resulting in improvements all around. Still driving it. Still a great car.
@@ChristovTenn no worries I end up getting a Toyota Prius 2022 all wheel drive no worries because either a Toyota or a Honda should drive for a long time by the way is your car still running okay
This system is actually different from Toyota's, Ford's , etc. The gas motor is not directly connected to the wheels, this motor is used as a "battery charger" if you put it that way and it can drive the car but through a generator. So if you're at a stop the motor can rev to charge the battery.
Our sources at Honda says while the gas engine does recharge the batteries, it will step in when maximum acceleration is needed to drive the front wheel and assist the electric motor.
Is there anything special about maintaining one of these hybrid cars? I know this is an old video, but I'm looking at the exact same year, model, and color in a Honda Certified Used car.
I bought a 2017 accord hybrid EXL new and I now have 111,000 miles on it. Reliability has been incredible. I have only had to get new tires, headlight bulbs, and a new battery. (Regular battery-not hybrid battery) Dealer says brakes are still fine. I also had transmission fluid replaced but other than oil changes I have not had to do anything else. The car has been awesome although my mpg is much less than advertised. I usually get between 37 and40 mpg for every tank. Which is still great compared to a regular car. The original tires (Michelin Energy Saver) did get slightly higher mpg but I replaced them with general Altimax RT43’s around 55,000 miles and the MPG went down slightly but I thought it was worth it because I preferred the performance of the Generals.
Can someone explain to me why manufacturers put these small "fins" on top of their cars? Is it for aerodynamic purposes, or are they hiding some sort of sensors?
I have a Honda Accord(2015) that doesn't have a antenna and fin at all, so I guess it's in the rear glass? Weird how some Models have a "fin", some don't
Thank you for the video! I was wondering if I should get this or a newer refreshed accord hybrid, and honestly, this looks like the better deal for what I need.
"With 212hp it's not going to have a lot of power ..." OMG: I suppose I'm a bit older than he, but holy frak 212 is still scores of horses unless one is talking about cars that "average families" have to strain (and by strain I mean pay on notes) "to afford".
Could you also provide your opinion on its stop-and-go feels? Some people complain about hybrid systems for not having a smooth transition between stop and go. Thx.
What is the traditional battery under the hood for if there is already a big one in the trunk? Do you still have to change it every x years for the car to start like with regular vehicles?
Sofyan, I've just picked up a 2016 TLX 2.4 w/ Tech, I turned down the Accord as an option due to it's CVT which drove me crazy, what would you have done?
I personally hate CVT's so I would have chosen the TLX as well. It's a bit sportier to drive, sounds much better, and comes with a few more features that you cannot get on a 4-cylinder Accord. -Sofyan
Very much. The engine is smooth, the transmission is quick. The 2.4 is the more 'spirited' of the two drivetrains and you avoid the ZF sourced 9-speed that everyone hates. I would love to see this car updated with the new/upcoming Civic SI Turbo and the rumored Honda 10-speed, that'd be a great car I bet. (Note that the 2017's are in the ordering system already and dealers have told me it's unchanged (take that with a grain of salt though, internet/yada/yada)) It's my second new car, first was my 2006 Scion tC in errr, Dec '05, so it's been a while since I've had something to compare to. Little things about the Acura compared to the Accord that really helped sway me: 1. Volume knob! 2. Auto Up/Down on *all* windows! 3. Higher quality materials. 4. Transmission NOT a CVT. 5. K24 Motor basically indestructible and tuned for more power/torque than the Accord. 6. All-Wheel-Steer is pretty trick. 7. Smaller wheels/bigger tires = better ride quality and MPG, 17's are fine, tires are cheaper this way too. 8. Way less road noise due to wheel/tire size and overall greater use of sound deadening materials. Mine specifically is a Fathom Blue Pearl which is beautiful with the Gray Leather (only option with this exterior color choice) and admittedly I really like the lighter color interior, makes it feel more spacious compared to the all-black competitors and other color options. I test drove a few cars, at first I was looking towards Small SUV/CUV type cars: CX-5, Rav4, RDX but couldn't find what I wanted in my price range, decided that'd end up as my wife's car in the future anyway so I started driving sedans: Accord, Mazda 6, Camry, IS 200t, CLA 250. You can't get any of those cars with the same amenities as the Acura for anything close to it's asking price. My dealer had me at 32,000 even for the car w/o Taxes/Licensing/Fees/etc and before my trade in. Good luck finding a Merc or a Lexus for under 40. Anyway, that was my experience with shopping and with the car. I'm totally enamored with it and would greatly recommend this combination to anyone (2.4/Tech). Ask away if there's anything else you want to know.

the best way to get maximum acceleration from a cvt is not flooring it. I have owned a few cvt cars now. peg the gas to peak power curve, not peak rpm. as we all know most cars make peak power a bit below redline. a cvt car will get going faster if you keep the rpm around 5k.
I find it kind of sad that Honda eliminated the BLIS (Blind Spot Monitoring) from their line up. With as many options as you can get on one of these and especially compared the competition, you'd think they wouldn't reserve that stuff for Acura.
The fact Honda discontinued the pretty unique-in-segment Plug-in version for what seems to be a "me too!" player following the Camry, Sonata & Fusion seems like a step backward for the company. However when the price premium is close to ~$12k for the PHEV, no wonder it didn't sell.
I have a 2017 Hybrid Touring. I have been getting very low MPG on the highway. 35 to 42MPG is my normal. Is anyone else having this issue? I used to receive between 50 and 65MPG so I am pretty disappointed right now. Dealer and Honda keep saying nothing is wrong. I am driving on the highway with adaptive cruise on so it is not my lead foot contributing to this issue.
That is a really good question, especially considering I have a Subaru w/ Eyesight in the fleet right now, both systems have their small flaws, I think the Subie does a better job of following the car in front of you and it does it to a full stop, unlike the current Accord which shuts off at 18 MPH. The Honda system does a better job of keeping you in the lane. -Sofyan

The engine noise is pretty bad.. sounds like my coffee grinder. The "wood" trim is a super cheap looking touch. If they were going to do wood, don't make it glossy. It looks odd just like the "carbon fiber" strip in the middle of the new Civic. Rear definitely needed a USB or power port, especially if you're going to call it the Touring trim.
In socal I see alot of these new accord hybrids having carpool lane stickers. I'm guessing they're the fake ones you buy on ebay since Only all electric,CNG and hydrogen vehicles are allowed those stickers correct?
MPG is heavily dependent on location. I get about 18 mpg combined in my 2007 MDX when I'm in Georgia, where my mom lives. However when I'm in The West Virginia (VERY hilly vs relatively flat GA), I get about 13 MPG combined which sucks lol
Scott Watkins not necessarily location but it's common sense if you drive in mountainous roads where you need more power to move around the vehicle will consume more fuel

Back seats don't come down... So I can't use it to go to home depot. No heated steering wheel. No cooling seats. No options of colours for leather or trim (actually the hybrid is the only one that has it but none of the other models do) Good price point though.
One thing that bothers me about the refreshed Accords is that they did away with the LED tail lights that were on the higher trim pre-facelift models. Instead they just put incandescents on all models. I don't know why they did that. Same story with the Maxima
What's the deal with more and more car companies putting the touch sensitive volume controls in place of the knobs? It's a cool gimmick for a little while but it's impractical and annoying.
I believe the 8th gen is a full-size but with the 9th it's a mid-size I think, yeah they should make it full-size so it can compete with the Avalon, Azera, Taurus etc.
+Imad S The Accord has never been meant to compete in the full size car class and will always compete in the mid-size class. If Honda wants to compete in that class, they need an all new model (Legend?) The Accord is perfectly fine where it's at.
Honda is the only car company that i know of in the US that doesn't offer a full size car yet they are the only ones who offer a coupe variant for the Midsize and compact cars.
thebluexanadu78 The 8th gen was competing in the mid-size segment but it is a full-size car as classified by the EPA, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Accord_(North_America_eighth_generation)

I'm 14 and I want one so bad! Btw it costs $65000 in 🇮🇳 India!
How about get a driving license first?
how come you don't talk about interior cabin noise?
i usually dont do Honda like that but Accord over 2016 nissan altima any day am right?!
compare to acura ilx A spec which one ride better?
All that aside, I want a Mazda Hybrid. Only Mazda knows the balance.
Any chance you can do the Lexus RX350 ??
Was it tested with the eco button on or off?
I love your videos bro, but I wish you speak on range when talking about hybrids. To me, range is more important than final MPG numbers.

Are those the same rims as that are on the EXL?
I hear that drone sound a lot on my ‘17 HAH in normal driving. So now I understand I’m on gasoline mode more...ugh, not good.
Hey Sofian, is the dashboard material shiny or dull/matte? thanks!
Matte!! Wish it was shiny
Hey when are y'all going to review the Honda Rigeline
what's the warranty on the battery
Can you get your hands on the Abarth 124 Spider?
10 star review. Thank you.
This looks like a great driver. I would look into getting one
;)
The engine noise is pretty bad.. sounds like my coffee grinder. The "wood" trim is a super cheap looking touch. If they were going to do wood, don't make it glossy. It looks odd just like the "carbon fiber" strip in the middle of the new Civic. Rear definitely needed a USB or power port, especially if you're going to call it the Touring trim.
It does have usb and power in the back
Can you please do Toyota RAV4 hybrid or Jetta Turbo Hybrid?
do a review for the 2016 accord sedan touring V6 please !!!!
Can you get a 2017 GMC Acadia
@redline it's cvt so bad?
pricing?
In socal I see alot of these new accord hybrids having carpool lane stickers. I'm guessing they're the fake ones you buy on ebay since Only all electric,CNG and hydrogen vehicles are allowed those stickers correct?
Now, now, drink every time he says now
so..... when are we getting that Elantra Sport review 🙄
MPG is heavily dependent on location. I get about 18 mpg combined in my 2007 MDX when I'm in Georgia, where my mom lives. However when I'm in The West Virginia (VERY hilly vs relatively flat GA), I get about 13 MPG combined which sucks lol
West Virginia* not THE West Virginia lol
+Scott Watkins lol
Scott Watkins not necessarily location but it's common sense if you drive in mountainous roads where you need more power to move around the vehicle will consume more fuel
Malibu hybrid anytime soon?
which car is the most fun to drive out of the four options.
1. 2014 accord sport 6MT
2. 2014 accord sport CVT
3. 2014 accord 6 cyl 6MT coupe
4. 2014 accord 6 cyl sedan auto.
Top and second choice would be appreciated! Thanks!
Back seats don't come down... So I can't use it to go to home depot.
No heated steering wheel.
No cooling seats.
No options of colours for leather or trim (actually the hybrid is the only one that has it but none of the other models do)
Good price point though.
Max Hansen lol heated steering wheel and cooled seats, what a wennie. "Oh no my sterring wheel is cold!I'm calling my mommy! Whaaa!"
@@MrTmenzo lmfao
Review the 2017 Acura MDX please
Honda coming slowly and deeply
where were you in this video nice car by the way
North Cali
Can auto reviewers please stop comparing hybrids to non-hybrid variants, we know it's not a barn burner. We are interested in ECONOMY!
It's a cool gimmick for a little while but it's impractical and annoying.
wonder when will they change the accord into a full size car, because the civic doesn't look like a compact car anymore.
+Imad S I realize that. That's why I said it has always competed in the mid-size class even though it was technically a full-size car for some years.
I would not want a a Acura Blind Spot Warning light on the passenger mirror at all. I like the camera better. I would want it only the driver mirror. I wish Honda did that.
Only has a single gear?
Aerohk yes it is called ABAG "a big ass gear" huehuehue
I am current owner of 2014 Honda Accord.
But I will probably never buy another car with CVT.
It pretty much sucks all the fun out of a car.
Good review but the CVT sounds awful - hate them in the Hondas
DimachkaS this doesn't have a CVT
your voice sound familiar. Are you from PhoneArena?
Those wheels.... damn ugly, the non hybrid sport with 5 spoke 19" is so much nicer imo
supra2k8 completely agree. The wheels on the hybrid are strikingly ugly.
Fantastic review
car is actually really nice
Started to sound like Alton Brown haha
just saw the reveal of the 2018 Acura TLX. this accord is so much nicer lol
They need to make a sport hybrid like acura or the 1st gen. accord hybrid.
