About this game:
We fused card games and roguelikes together to make the best single player deckbuilder we could. Craft a unique deck, encounter bizarre creatures, discover relics of immense power, and Slay the Spire!
Needing to accelerate claw, but not taking another claw is the galaxy brain move I've come to expect from NL, but it still hurts to watch
It's pretty clear that he equates Claw to a smaller, free Rampage. Which is wrong, but it's what he knows how to build for.
I was yelling at my TV at that point.
I had a mini tantrum in my chair.. I'm ashamed of myself, but not as ashamed as I am at NL
He forgot that one claw buffs another
His deck was getting a little bit thick. Kappa Kappa Kappa
There's a zero cost card that literally doubles the frequency of drawing claw when your deck has a Claw in it. It's called Claw. Might have been a stronger get than a card that costs 1, does a little damage and only conditionally increases the frequency of claw.
Oh yeah that single, non-upgraded claw meta that'll get you to the promised land.
I can really see why he stopped playing this game, you all are assholes.
@@nickp.4419 Right? I've been rewatching the series because the Watcher episodes got me jonesin and man, yeah, people are always so damn critical of someone trying to be entertaining AND think critically. I feel bad for NL.
To be fair he got really far
"we're about to die"
*Plays glacier without even thinking*
Plays 2/3 of his energy then thinks "Can I kill him?".............
Not taking a second claw on a claw deck made me really sad
After learning this fact, I can no longer watch this video. Thank you for saving me the time
He's too focused on a thin deck, but one claw upgrades the damage to all claws, so it would have definitely accelerated his claw damage build.
That Bronze Automoton fight would have been better if you... I dunno,
1) Evaluate options
2) Plan turn
3) Execute turn
Instead of
1) Execute turn, partially
2) Evaluate options
3) Miss better play, even in hindsight
TFW YOU COULD WATCH A MOVIE, BUT DECIDE YOU WOULD RATHER WATCH A MAN PLAY A VIDEO GAME
My movie backlog still contains Black Panther and The Post, so that should tell you how often I opt to watch man fall on face playing game.
God bless 2x on videos
@@Nestoras_Zogopoulos There is a chrome app that lets you go even faster. I watch most of my egg videos at 3x speed at least.
Did you guys hear about the new species of wildlife discovered in Canada?
The "Septentrional Panthera Leo" or "Lion of the North" stands out from other types of Lion in the way that the head of the adult male is completely devoid of fur, and the fact that it hunts using only a single claw.
Sadly this species is dying out due to it's inability to kill prey quickly. Please donate to Septenrional Benefactors (also known as S-B) to save this newly discovered wonder from being lost forever.
Quality shitpost
I hear it only has one claw.
@@ImortalZeus13 underrated comment
Triple loss length
Must be 3 speedruns.
Okay lemme breakdown his second run:
Got the god tier kunai *again* and fan *again*. Acknowledges he needs to build a 0cost spam block deck. Takes rebound as he sees the benefit which is nice. Takes machine learning for extra card draw and cycle over buffer which I can sort of understand. Takes cool headed for draw which is nice. Takes hologram for claw which made things a lil shady. Proceeds to f*k his deck up by taking another machine learning. Thinks he’s making a meme deck. Starts to prioritise playing a claw deck with one claw in a f*king 20+ card thick deck that is built for something else. Continue to thicken the deck with 0 cost cards with no draw. Skips compile driver for draw. Acknowledges that it’s taking way too bloody long for claw to be effective. But says f*k it and continue playing claw. Acknowledges having two machine learning is way too aggressive (actually unnecessary) but doesn’t think about removing it instead remove basic strikes and defends.
Gets scrape that synergies well. But decides to please big daddy hologram and upgrade it instead.
The best part is? I don’t even play this game.
You didn't mention the best part. He didn't pick a claw when playing a claw deck.
Also making a 0cost and never upgrading zap
Not picking claw in a claw build. Classic! Not upgrading dual cast and zap then complaining he has no energy when he picks all the Holograms. Classic!
Can we talk about the fact that Act 1 the game tried to give him 3 claws and an all for one and he didn't even think about it.
NL taking Rebound at the library event hurt me far more than I ever thought possible
46/75 HP "I'm gonna get a lil risky" ?????
Correct me if I'm wrong, but on that last turn of the first run, playing storm and electro would've killed the boss, right? SLOW DOWN
Poison6333 yep
Ya boi has an addiction to glacier, he sees it and assumes it is the right play.
it was an extremely close lethal but yes
I think going defend defend instead of glacier could have worked too
@@migueldiaz1453 not only that he first goes for a frost build flips 360 into a electro
Juzu bracelet as a final relic is just a slap in the face.

ya all complaining about the misplays, while I am here marveling at that stealth edit our proud boy did mid video.
I can’t believe I had to scroll this far to find this comment
@@CrimsonUmbrella crazy world huh?
Different orb types don’t constitute “archetypes”. You’re not improving your deck by only playing with frost and or only lightning.
Claw is always better than a strike. Especially when 4 are available, scrape, and multiple hologram
Yeah if you're gonna go Claw build, there's 2 major things you need: Lots of claws, and a couple All for Ones. The one thing you definitely DON'T need is 5 energy.
getting a single claw deck all the way to the heart is certainly an achievement, well done NL ^^
Why does nl think lighting and frost doesn't go together? You want to both do damage and block after all.
He also hates gaining orb slots 😂
1:03:11 "Oh we lost machine learning, that's a little devastating." Then holograms and doesn't get machine learning.......................................
CLAW

WHY ISN'T THIS WORKING
9:55, fighting the ACT 1 BOSS, "We don't have the triumvirate yet, that's the only bad thing". NL. Please. Explain to me why we need to complete the key set before you need them. It's like in Isaac, if you pick up a key after you've already been to the item room - sure, you'll need it EVENTUALLY on the next floor's item room, but right now that key is COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT UNTIL IT IS NEEDED.
Do you know when you need to have those keys? When you beat ACT 3's boss. They are completely irrelevant and do absolutely nothing until then. Stop. Thinking. They're. Crucial. Please. For. The. Love. Of. God.
Edit: and tell me how useful those keys are when you don't even beat the Act 3 boss? Sure was crucial to sacrifice our advantages for absolutely no reason.
Hey everyone it’s “Let’s rest at 69 hp”
1:23:03 the spear's intent says 10x2, but he does 9 damage twice instead. probably an oversight involving the interaction between the weakness debuff and the "Back Attack" buff
I'm new to slay the spire, haven't ever played it so I don't know what's considered good yet, game seems pretty fun though.
The amount of criticism in the comments is pretty amazing, never seen a youtube comment section so critical yet constructive, and so willing to say when he did something right. I'd say that I wish the BoI comments could be so good, but then I remember the pot play and figure he probably deserves some of it.
The frequency of constructive comments for this game is mainly because there is a statistically correct way to play most encounters, but in BoI mechanical skill is much more valued. Also hes just really bad and makes terrible decisions so anyone with common sense can easily criticize his play.
If you listen to anyone from the subreddit, all anyone does in the sts comments is basically tell him to kill himself
There is nothing wrong with the wing boots. NL is just too stubborn, and likes to play too fast to strategize the route. Poor little wing boots.
"I don't like being able to choose any spot on a row because it might let me get more smiths into my thicc deck"
>building for frost
we're in for a long one boys
Just got my first victory against the heart. I replaced my starting relic with the orb-arm. Turns out Defect with 20 focus is quite good.
If he loves hologram so much why doesn't he actually use it to take back dualcast one of the myriad times it would have killed the enemy in every one of the first few combats

This dude is spitting bars
Egg: How do I accelerate Claw?
Me: Get more Claws and upgrade your Claws.
Egg: *does neither of those things*
Me: *is tilted as fuck*
23:23 Storm into electro would have killed him. Mission failed, we'll get em next time.
NL my dude, put some cards in your deck. The game offers you cards then you evaluate how said cards can improve your deck (damage, card draw, block, AOE, etc.) and pick accordingly. If you play those cards in a reasonably intelligent manner you win. That is how you play Slay the Spire.
What you don't do, is focus of creating a specific archetype. Don't waste your gold trying to remove every strike when you could be buying good cards. Stop taking overly reductive advice as gospel. You don't win the game by "having a small deck". You win it by being able to evaluate the value of a card in the context of your current run.
You have hit a wall with Slay the Spire and the only way you are going to improve is to take some time to think about the cards in the game. You should always be thinking about what you need to get through the current act. How does your deck handle multiple enemies? Can you beat all the elites? Do you have enough draw? Can you scale damage fast enough to beat the bosses? etc. This should be what is influencing card picks. For example, Wild Strike is a pretty mediocre card but if you are lacking damage going into your first elite you might need to pick it up. It doesn't matter that the card might be dead weight later in the run when it saves you 20-30 HP in the Gremlin Nob fight enabling an upgrade that helps your entire run snowball into a win. This is the thought process you need to beat the heart or Asc20.
tl;dr pick good cards, win game.
removing strikes is one of the best uses of gold you'll find. they are essentially curses.
Oh good. I'm not the only person playing this fucking game that doesn't think "small deck is only good deck". Card quality and their ability to synergize with each other beats deck size. Every time. A tiny deck full of shit is still shit. A deck full of good cards is good no matter it's size. I've made both 12 card decks work and 40 card decks
Ryan doesnt think, he just emulates what he has been told in messages and comments until something works.
Silver Strings Have you played any of the 50 random card dailies? So much fun, don’t think I’ve lost before the 3rd boss ever on them. Turns out 50+ cards with no basic strikes or defends is better than a 12 card deck w 10 strikes and defends. Who woulda thought?
Everytime he recalls at the first campfire one of my last remaining wills to live commits sepuku.
Hard working egg's backlog so big he could've been joking about Canadian Thanksgiving instead of American
1:25:22 You missed a tinted rock.
He has done it
I'm sad he abandoned ice turtle strats at the earliest given opportunity. The game immediately threw Inserter, Creative AI, and Blizzard at him. At that point you literally only take cards with 'frost' on them and let Inserter + Creative AI + frost make you invincible every fight until Blizzard buries everything. Its an easy win, not to mention the Heart heavily incentivizes defensive decks.
Run 2, Lets go. . . did he say he hates Winged Boots? Does, does he know what it does? I guess he just hates having more options, more room to make mistakes I suppose.
And yes, Panacea is a great card particularly for the Defect. It raises Biased Cognition from a strong but risky card to just a god tier card. Getting artifacts is also just generally really nice to have.
He's right Rebound is over-rated. Almost entirely by NL to boot. Most people recognize its a mediocre card with good niche utility. Its mostly useful in a Claw deck, but y'know whats a better card to add to a Claw deck? That's right, Claw. You get the increased Claw frequency for less energy without the conditional of drawing both cards at once.
Hey, he's asking for Shurikan again. While he already has Kunai. Again. I didn't switch to an old episode did I? Weird, deja vu.
Hey, he's asking for Shurikan again. While he already has Kunai. Again. I didn't switch to an old episode did I? Weird, deja vu.
This comment is already too long, so I'm gonna skim over the number of times he screws up the Claw, Rebound, Hologram dance.
Honestly, I'm surprised he managed to make the Heart with that deck. Just goes to show how strong Kunai can be. Good(ish) attempts none the less.
Needlessly Nihilistic is an amazing name for a band
Ornamental fan, Kunai, claw deck, doesn't take additional claw, doesn't take beam cell. Man does not look at screen.
35:45 yea skip on the claw in the claw deck with one claw... that sounds like a good idea
Oh. I thought the Dazed card was like this really cool ember spirit person whose head was melting into magic blue smoke…
It’s a guy with Twitter birds circling around his head.
I am scared of how long this video is.
2x
@@Nestoras_Zogopoulos Its not the lenght itself its what it means. More time = more misplays.
It took me 23 minutes to realize I've already seen this episode
For each character, there are a very finite number of Correct Builds* that will beat the Heart. By "will" I mean the Heart has very predictable attacks that will kill you on the third or fourth cycle unless you use one of the Correct Builds or have astronomical luck. Relics will not win Act 4 without a Correct Build, but bad relics can still lose it.
*I'm not saying exact builds, but combinations of cards and decent relics for those cards. Unholy block, or its debuff equivalent, is part of all of them. Unchecked, the heart does what, 300 damage by round nine? Think that's actually low because the AxB attack scales. Speaking of scaling, an attack that scales is also nigh on essential. Happy hunting!
remember that run where egg decided to make a 1 claw claw deck?
23:23 Maybe instead of a glacier try to kill him using electro and storm?
Love these new Slay The Spire intro's
When you're trying to play Claw as much as possible, you want to do all your draw spells first my man. For example at 59:45 if you'd done Sweeping Beam and Coolheaded first you would have been able to do Claw, Hologram, Rebound, Claw and been able to Claw again on the next turn.
This man just played a Claw deck like it was the stupidest and most obsolete Rampage you could imagine
Imagine how good that first run could have been. Glacier, multiple Coolheaded and Claws. Getting Inserter after the first boss. That's an uncommon card (Consume) away from being an easy win.
Then he turns it into another garbage Storm deck and dies to the second floor boss.
Very cool deck for that second run. Shame it took you so long to get comfortable in each encounter.
I just feel numb inside. Just empty. WHYYYY??!!
must be an icecream multicast plasma run
He passed up the second claw!
i played a similar deck just without defenses,11 claws and an all for one with unceasing top
can we talk about how he mentioned thanksgiving "approaching"... isn't this like weeks ago? Didn't his StS reached such a backlog too.
*think
I swear I'm not hating, I love this egg as if he were my own. But my boy is itching 24/7 for the "End Turn" button. Little things like not knowing how much damage he's taking at 16:45 may not seem important, but they show that #47's galaxy-brained doppelganger ain't doing his "dude illigence".
30:14 - "We don't need orb slots"... poach this egg.
37:30 - Using the higher damage attack on the enemy with 1hp, I would expect no less.
50:05 - "That was really good, claw got played three times"... no, father, you merely said the word "claw" three times.
It's so uniquely Ryan to build a deck around a single card and decide immediately not to upgrade it, a decision which he never reconsiders in spite of all reason. A brain of truly galactic proportions.
Another great run, another great effort. Thanks for all the content, the humour, and the company
I legit was so close to falling asleep...then 14:48 happened and I had to just open my eyes and stare at the screen like "wtf...seriously? "
You are overvaluing hologram by about 10 decibels
I love you and this game :(
It's the CLAW!!!....it's gonna getcha....the claw.....
The amount of Claw cards on that first run... :-(
And then the second run is an actual Claw run and he doesn't take extra Claws :-/
Only egg could make it that far with claw only to throw that hard on the last floor
Random relic, sure. But upgrading all cards in your deck right before the final boss is also quite nice.
Just because you CAN fight the boss, doesn't make it the best option.
Not being able to heal after AT ALL kinda kills hurts tough. (Not sure how that interacts with the floor 4 transition. Does he still not heal from that if you take that option?)
@@seenixa9082 true, he probably wouldn't. It just bugs me that he still read one of the options and jump it without spending even a second thinking.
Upgrade all is often bad since you get it so early on floor three, but he got it right at the end
@@shanadir I understand what you're saying, and I agree. At this point I'm just wondering since floor 3 is not the last one anymore. Will you still be left with your hp if you go down? If so, whenever you go for the heart it's a no-go ~99%
UPGRADE CLAW WHEN YOU BUILD A DECK AROUND IT PLEASE!!!!
The upgrade is +2 damage base. It's not very good but if you are always going to play it (obviously you would most of the time) then it might be a better upgrade than +3 block sometimes or some other upgrades. It depends largely on the deck I think, sometimes you need the +3 block.
Upgraded claw is hardly better. It doesn't make it scale faster. It's only +2 damage
To make claw work good you need too add more then two then thay will incress quicker
Is my boy really out here sleeping on Boot Sequence?
just 7:15 in but had to get it out of my head. NL, orb build doesn't necessarily need to be consisted of a single type orb you dunce
Remember, kids. Memes don't exist
he misplay at 23:23 I straight fucking cried here...
Enemy has 61 hp. Egg has 7 orb slots with 5 lightning followed by one frost and 2 storms played.
Step 1: play storm on hand. 2 lightning are channeled 1 is evoked. 8 damage. Enemy at 53. Egg now has 3 storm stacks.
Step 2: electrodynamics. Channel 5 lightning (2 electro and 3 storm) and evoke 4 light + 1 frost. 32 damage. Enemy at 21.
Step 3: end turn. Egg has 7 orb slots each with a lightning. 21 damage. Enemy dies, run continues.
You didnt even need ftl's 5 damage to win...
Instead you reflexively played glacier, wasting 2 energy before slowing your roll and contemplating what the best play would be. You actually said "can we kill him?" after that. The answer was yes, but you didn't even think about that out until the out was already squandered. S L O W D O W N.
Similarly, on the turn prior, he played static discharge to try and draw into a power when be could have played a different electrodynamics, which would have meant he evoked the same amount of lightning as if he had high rolled into another power.
please, egg, Claw isn't Rampage.
I don't play StS, but am I wrong in the impression that The Defect is really op, and NL is complete trash with it and at this game in general?
Must be a speedrun damn
HE SKIPPED THE BOOK
You keep inventing some value to self repair just like you used to do with jack of all trades. It's an absolute dead card. It does nothing during the fight, and it restores less HP than most defect blocks would mitigate. Even as a storm trigger it's just a zap you can't make cost 0. It's not something nice to play on dead turns either, dead turns happen because you polluted your deck with such bad cards. And on a turn where you don't have to block and can't meaningfully damage the enemy it's probably more effective to focus up so you can end the fight faster or get your frost going in the pursuit of keeping your HP high.
You think rebound is OVERrated? I might've been living under a rock but I don't recall hearing anyone say much positive about it...
It’s kinda sad watching nl trying to make a working orb build without focus
win length bois
Good video. man, this comment section is toxic. also old af. hope you are well!
Why would you throw away a chance at a good relic that dosent cost and absurd amount of hp especially when you're at max hp hp is a resource used to win the run
I decided to watch Slay the Spire for the first time bc I normally only ever watch Isaac and I have no idea wtf is going on
To be fair NL still has no idea what’s going on either
@@michaeldoolin6408 Doesn't surprise me in the slightest

Holla back girl ?
Am I the only one who feels like Act 4 is Delirium levels of "fun idea, unfun bullshit in execution"?
Nl could you please read the cards?
not for us tho, i mean, you are letting so much good stuff go by because you kind of don't know the card.
Its like the trinket treatment form isaac, knows like 10 and the rest dont even bother.
Call me an idiot if you like, I don't want to insult your intelligence...but do you know that you can skip all the boss relics if you don't like them...do you take them because you feel you have to?...you had 3 terrible options, just leave them all.
The first time you died, you could have used the weakness potion and a defend and had lived.
