As much as I loved Mean Streak and was devastated to hear it was closing (I never even got to "pay my respects" to say goodbye), Steel Vengeance is amazing. I'll always have the memories of begging my family to ride Mean Streak (or at least let me ride it because it never bothered me too much) and the one time I rode it with my friends and, when we went to see our on-ride photo, all the seats were empty (of course, our teenage minds thought that was hilarious). I'll never forget you, Mean Streak. Some of you still exists in Steel Vengeance (the mid-course break run is exactly the same).
I agree, except on the part about loving it, press your head against the headrest and look like a woodpecker with a headache, keep your head forward and your upper back and chest will do the same, feeling like a heartattack.
I'm glad they're updating the ride. This is great wooden coaster that just needs a few upgrades. The hills don't disappoint. Now Son of Beast was just flat out terrible. The Beast would always reign supreme over it's son. They should consider redoing the tracks for that as well. Classic coasters!

I rode mean streak it's opening day it was a whole different animal than it is today alot smoother and faster since then they deliberately slowed it down in an attempted too make it smoother..well since it opened in 1991 thanks to cedar fairs frugality it has never been re-tracked which is idiotic since it is now 25yrs old and the structure has settled a long time ago and by re-tracking it, it would allow it to run alot smoother not to mention restoring it to it's original speed.If cedar fair gave alittle extra though to rider comfort instead of durability redid the trains and replaced the hard rubber seats with ones using a softer foam that would absorb some of the shock that would be a huge improvement, the point is this coaster has alot of potential to be great just the way it is if the park management would take the time once in awhile to tweak and perfect what they already have in the park instead building new attractions and running them till the doors fall off.and to be honest the current park management have really been dropping the ball in recent years and needs to spend more time focusing on treating their guests & employees better which is the main reason they didn't win a gold ticket for best amusement park last year.
I feel your pain, the only time I was in Ohio was when Geauga Lake Park and Seaworld were still around and my family & I went to Seaworld. This was in the late 90's. So, I highly doubt I will ever get to Cedar Point or Kings Island and I live in Maryland, United States.
You know, he RMC IBOX treatment isn't necessarily what MS needs. What I see as a better fit would be for CP to not just have Gravity Group or GCI re-track it, but to have them completely reshape it by maybe making the drop steeper, adding more airtime hills... Kind of like what they did to Hades at Mt. Olympus but to a much larger degree (instead of having just a portion of the ride redone, they'd have the whole thing redone), and if Gravity Group's involved, it'd be awesome if they'd sneak in a corkscrew buried somewhere in that mountain of wood where no one could see it. And Timberliner trains would really slow down the wearing down process. Maybe. I don't know, but this just seems like a better way to make it popular again. You know how CP really needs a good woodie, right? I see a way, apparently. So... what do you guys think?
This was fun to ride - the first time. Over the years it got so unbearably rough that it just wasn't worth riding - even though it never had a line. Long ride, very tall and fast, but just so bumpy and rough. The ride did a great job thrashing its passengers every which way during the course of its run, lifting them out of their seats so they can crash into the lap bar in a Magnum XL-200 like fashion. Whenever the ride hit a curve, which, as depicted in the POV, there were a ton, you were thrown to the side of the car, which had NO padding. Honestly, while it seems like a cool ride, it was just too bumpy, too painful, too ROUGH.
Mean is right. I'm 6'3" and I didn't have any knees by the time this thing was over. And I was lucky. My friend is 6'8". I hear a lot of rumors that this might get the hybrid treatment for the 2015 season.
I have question. I am going to Cedar Point soon. I do not really like rough rides. I have ridden the beast at kings island and I about died XD Everyone says its smooth and i was very unhappy while riding it.... I am wondering is this really as rough a everyone says? Should i skip over it?
+Melissa Kalish For me, the best way to minimize the bumpiness of Mean Streak is to grab on to the padded metal bar in the front of the car. The roughness of the ride is much more noticeable if you are leaning back in the seat.

Point is Cedar Point can't keep up with its namesake park while doing renovations to Paramount parks at the same time
Andy Grind i rode the coaster once in 2010 and again 2014 and '15, and it was considerably smoother the recent years. Doesnt mean it was good. The breaks on the drop still slam me forward, and the ride still feels force less and slow, but its still nice to ride it every year because of the short line xP

I've never rode Rolling Thunder, but Mean Streak is just as its name describes it, it's mean. As a 20 year old with perfect health, riding it gave me a sore back, however, I think you should ride it because it is getting torn down in September. Just ride it later in the day haha

There was an mean streak, soak city construction update video posted by coasterbob62 today and there were sections of the track missing but not the supports and it seems that the lift hill will be at a steeper angle and there were square track sections which would indicate that, also the track was removed from the station but the station was still standing and like half the lift hill was gone as well

It's getting overhauled into Steel Vengeance for 2018 (reusing the structure, but with all new steel track).
