For big burst, you don’t necessarily have to use the hammer immediately, you can activate it so the cooldown can start on the charge, but can still be up by the time you cycle through rainbow. Of course either way works, depending on your mobility needs and should still align with raid buffs
That's the best part of picto is you can do any version of an opener so long as the cooldowns align well, and you get the skills in the actual burst window. I sometimes press the star level 100 ability early because some fights do raid wide at the start, and the heal is game changing.
Nice thanks was looking for some guidance because I wasn’t sure about my rotation. For burst phase when it comes to rainbow drip I actually cast another immediately with swift cast. Then hammer 1 then creature then creature laser then finish hammer combos. Then prepare for next burst. This is such a fun burst job I’m loving it. I will start trying to get 2 black commits for burst start. I usually never know what to do with white paint I know it’s for those heavy mobility phases it just sucks when your stacked and you didn’t need em. Seems a bit wasteful but I’m glad to know it’s not really a dps lost to not use em unless I’m moving.
@@HalfLifeHalfDead having 2 diff buttons for the holy/comet is literal button bloat, same as having 2 seperate buttons to actually activate your hammer.

None of the motifs, the white and black paint, the 100 capstone skill or the two paint 1-2-3 combos have to be on separate buttons, yet they are.

Mistake on Tempera Grassa: if it breaks, it reduces the cooldown by 30 seconds. Only if the shield doesn't break, either as Tempera Coat or Tempera Grassa, that you suffer the full 120s cooldown.
The only thing i really dislike about PCT is his white Paint/Holy Stacks. When you have a less movement heavy Fight you overcap a lot on your white Paint since aside of your Hammer you can technically also Swift Painting a Canvas for Movement or swift your RGB Combo for movement. So for nearly all the other Classes its a No go to overcap your Ressources but as for PCT you actually WANT to overcap.

I didn't see this posted in the comments (sorry if I missed it) but tempera grassa does have a 30 second cool down reduction if it's popped. So less than the 60 second reduction from coat, but not a full 2 minutes either.
Also, you mentioned the creature paintings are all the same, which is true. But the beams are different potencies, so ideally you want the madeen laser for the 2 minute burst
Yea someone else mentioned both points earlier ^^ The cd decrease on the shield was an oversight on my part, but the creature potency was indeed just talking about the normal creature attack not the laserbeam. While you can save madeen for the first few bursts, eventually it will start to drift and you will need to use mog instead. But if you can use madeen then it will be a small gain indeed.
In fact, with Swiftcast, it’s possible to cast the second set of hammer time combos and exhaust 5 stacks of hyperphantasia during the 20s burst period if all skills are being casted properly. Failing to do so may result not spending all stacks of hyperphantasia. However, it’s nearly impossible to stay in the circle for 20s to do the combos during boss fights. Also, early exhausting hyperbantasia will end the burst period early. Therefore, I think pictomaner’s max damage rotation has barely any error tolerance which makes it more difficult to be executed compared to other jobs.

There may not be enough time to do a cast spell at the end so save an instant cast spell that consumes hyperphantasia to the last. Also, Striking Muse should be casted first before casting Starry Muse>1st hammer combos, you can use whatever instant cast spell and CYM color combo + 1 instant cast that consumes the stack (Black/White/Star) in between but keep one instant spell (Black/White/Star) to the end. Use Swiftcast when the 1st hammer combos almost done on Weapon Motif>Striking Muse>2nd hammer combos. You should be able to have just enough time to cast Star Prism before the burst end. Lastly, cast Rainbow Drip which won’t benefit from the Starry Muse as it is only available after all stacks are consumed.

Okay so i think i get it. Prioritize your paintings and focus on using your paintings. Your 1-2-3 should just be used when you don't have the ability to use your paintings like they're on cooldown. I had the hardest time trying to understand picto, but now I think I get it. The canvases are primary and the basic combo is secondary.
You can, for rainbow drip I wouldn't use it unless it's your last gcd before downtime, or to bridge a short downtime period (like a certain point in the 99 trial where you get knocked up for longer then a normal gcd).
Istg, the thing I hate most about Viper and Picto really is the fact that your actions change all the time. My hotbars look so absurdly weird because of that, yet they are as comfortable as they can get
I imagine you'll want a tiny bit of sps, because without any it's really tight to fit all your spells into your burst window. But how much that would be, I don't know.
You can use the quick cast and then the off gcd's, so even the canvas isn't that bad. It's not like you need to be holding the quick cast for a quick rez or something.
2 things you got fundamentally wrong in the guide. 1) the raid wide shield can have its cast time reduced if the shields are removed by 30 secs. 2) the creature motif with 4 pictures is 100 potency higher than mog of ages and is therefore better under raid buffs. Please read your tool tips better.
You're right, the shield bit was an oversight on my part. For the second point, i was talking about the creature painting itself, not the mog/madeen, as these 2 abilities have drift and thus you can't always have the same one under raid buffs.
@NeollaNoila i wouldnt hold on to it, just use it. 100 potency dif not worth missing out on 1400 then 1300 (im not in game to remember potencies. You should use one in your burst window, and the other at a random point beforethe burst window so its ready again.
Nvm i double checked andit seems at higher levels they are holding it, but thats weird to me when you can just use it, i guess they hold it for the first burst to line it up. Whereas after that you can use moogle beam on cd and the madene or what not in burst.
@@devxved madene is just straight up more potency so there is no reason to not use it under buffs. Some people liken it to the chakra system with Monk, but it’s a bit different because it requires 4 motifs to enable versus 3 PBs in Monk. That additional motif means it’s realistically a DPS gain to use it under buffs for a reopener.

There are lots of buttons that could be combined on Picto, they just left themselves plenty of space to expand the job without any button bloat.

I always save Swiftcast for Instant Moogle/Madeen. But the 40 second make it always drift in the burst.

from what ive seen, crit>det>=dh>sps. picto has huge potency hits, and having a lot of crit makes a huge difference on that
