She was Very nervous and had a hard time doing the scene, was hesitant about doing it. But when she finally did, she came into the scene where she's looking at Paul and his eyes locked with hers and Never wavered. He kept her gaze and never looked down. That spoke a ton about integrity and making choices. He chose not to. That says a lot about his character. Always loved him just for that moment.

Not saying the man's perfect, just that piece was. Neal went above and beyond and wouldn't 'sell out' which says a lot more. You'll notice he always plays the bad guy, that I've seen, could be wrong. With more and more coming out of Hollywood and what you have to do to make it in the business, those that do and those that don't, it really sheds light on the ugly side of it. So it's best to not 'look up to' any actor, they are human, and fallible, as we all are. Separating actors as humans from their roles though, there are some actors that have burnt it with me and I will not watch any thing they are in, simply because of what they did IN a role.
I knew they started their relationship with Paul still married. I was training at Cedar Sinai mental health center when Scott Neuman was there for treatment. His parents tried everything to help him... It was a big shock when he killed himself. But it was known Scott had huge problems 😢
Mr Neuman was filming Me and Mrs Bridges back in my hometown; Kansas City in 1987. I watched them film the outdoor scenes but didn't see the Neumans so I went on home about 3 miles away. On my way to my car I saw a dog chained to a shade tree and so I sat under the tree with the dog petting him. A man was standing smiling as I pet the dog. So he sat with us. I looked at the man eye to eye and said " Sir is this your dog? And if so do you mind I pet him?" I gasped at his smile and those blue eyes alone under a shade tree when he said " that's ok if you pet him and it was Paul Neuman!" I became nervous and said " yes you both look so much alike: your dog looks like you". He said " what is that suppose to mean??!!". I saw where my dumb comment pissed him off and I said " No No your not a dog sir!!". I cried all the way home and my husband giggled " heck ya he was mad your the only one who ever called him a dog!!" 😢😢
I always felt he in general a very honest man. One who tried very hard to do what is right, but that wasn't always the case. Many demons followed him; the affair he had with Joanne Woodward, his lack of a close relationship with his older kids, the death of oldest son, and problems brought on by his drinking. I enjoyed him as an actor, but his interviews and his projects that he was involved showed a pretty good smart humanitarian in my book. We need more people like him in our world.

My heart goes out to Joanne and children. My mother had Alzheimer's and it nearly broke my heart every minute of every day. While she forgot so many family and friends she always knew who I was for which I was so grateful. I cannot imagine 17 years.. For Mom and I it was 7yrs. And I thought my heart would break every minute. Mom died in her sleep which was exactly what she wanted desperately..she made me promise and I did and then I prayed I could keep it. Paul Newman died in 2008 and Joanne Woodward has had alzeimers following his death. Why is necessary to discuss the affair which led to their decades long, amazing marriage? Many people get married young and pick a person that isn't a good fit. I've heard that the first time a person marries people exactly opposite their parents, the 2nd to some one just like their parents and the 3rd time they pick the right person that is right for them. The 2 of them did so much to help others.

I have always like Paul Newman. He was a fine actor, and yes it isn't difficult to see what the ladies saw in him. He was also a great humanitarian. However, I can understand his guilt over leaving his wife for Joanne Woodward. Paul Newman was a decent human being and it clearly sat on his conscious throughout his marriage to Joanne, because the fact is you don't take your happiness at someone else's expense. Paul clearly knew that.
What I don't get is Joanne Woodward who quite obviously gave herself permission to get involved with a married man with three children.

He was a cad. He was married 9 years to his first wife. 5 of those years he was sleeping with both women. He left his first wife with 2 small children and a new baby for the pregnant Joanne. He had every right to regret his life.

Um she ain't dead .she's 93 and lives in Connecticut. She has dementia.
