I think Susana just told Lisa what she wanted to hear. Lisa had said "Why doesn't anyone reach in and rip out the truth and tell me." So Susana did. She reached in and rip out the truth: "You're already dead." However, Lisa did not know how much the truth would hurt. No one truly can understand sociopathy, but we must remember that even sociopaths are humans. And truth hurts, espcially when you know it but didn't want to face it. Lisa now has to face her truth. Susana figured hers out.
I am so sick and tired of the "a true sociopath..." argument. Sociopaths DO have emotions (i.e. rage, jealousy etc) but they're mostly negative and they do have triggers. Gary Heidnik was known to flip out when his mother was brought up. Ted Bundy was embarrassed and disliked being reminded about his family's financial status growing up (narcissism). They all have a weakness and it usually has something to do with their childhood, what Susanna brought up was Lisa's source of anger.
Sandra Cano It bugs the hell out of me too, strange how everyone online seems to be "experts" when it comes to anti-social personality disorders. (And yet are unable to provide the source of their knowledge) I think people just think of Hannibal Lecter when someone when someone says 'Sociopath' never mind the fact that he was a character in a horror movie which by design was out to disturb and scare the audience, Hannibal was so exaggerated that he's more of a paranormal boogyman than someone with a personality disorder, but that's what everyone seems to expect when the word "Psychopath" or "Sociopath" is brought up.
Adammarketis I know. I'm not an expert but to say that sociopaths do not have emotional triggers is ignorant. I think people associate the word "emotion" with sadness, empathy, etc when jealousy, rage, bitterness, etc ARE emotions.
I think you have your information on psychopaths mixed up they can feel emotion just not emotion for other people for themselves they cry more than anything else
Of course they hold emotions and they command control over other humans emotions... because someone else Commanded Control over the sociopath's emotions during their childhood.
I dont know what you think but i truly believe that Lisa has been very emotional at first but as she saw over the years that nobody cares for her she became like she is now..not a sociopath, thats just a disguise to stop the hurting. She says always the truth, thats her character.
I’m not sure if she’s a sociopath. I think there’s a place between normative people and people with ASPD. She’s in between spectrums. I don’t think it’s normal to care about all human life. I read the statements people make about victims of police violence or drunk drivers that got what was coming. I think we justify it hating others. She justified making that girl suicidal because she was jealous of the praise she was getting and her commitment to a life outside of the hospital. I don’t know for sure if Jolie’s character really is the bad girl she wants to portray. This movie is too short to tell. This scene conveyed much of what she was doing was for attention. She complained about being isolated. I think she wants someone to stop being afraid of her and notice that she’s breaking down and crying out for help. Most people are afraid of her and that’s the isolation. Notice how Ryder stopped running away and finally stands up to her. Jolie needed someone to stand up to her and break her. That’s why sometimes people need discipline, and a place to belong. They don’t need sheeple or indulgence.
I felt like she wasn't a sociopath but latched onto the diagnosis and acted like one as a way to "not feel". But she was actually seriously psychologically harming herself doing the things she did, like pushing Daisy's buttons. The ending scene "I'm not really dead" shows this.
@@couture My opinions have changed. She didn’t care if daisy died and got pleasure from daisy’s misery and suicide. In fact she acted like daisy was out of the way once she was dead and no longer a threat to make her feel jealous for living a better life and leaving the institution. Lol. I think she’s a sociopath in the least.
"Antisocial personality disorder, sometimes called sociopathy, is a mental health condition in which a person consistently shows no regard for right and wrong and ignores the rights and feelings of others." She is a sociopath. She only cries for herself in same way narcissist would do. They are both cluster B for a very good reason.
The real Lisa Rowe was bipolar. Her whole personality and influence on Susanna was exaggerated in the movie. Here she's pretty much a sociopath cranked up to eleven. Real sociopaths have several episodes where they play the victim and make people feel sorry for them. It's all a charade of course and made to lure people into their trap.
Actually, not all sociopaths do that, most of them are extremely angry, the most blunt of people, and are somewhat, psychopathic, why? Because they feed of others pain, even sometimes there own. I know this from family experience. It's only rare where they play the victim. If anything, if they wanted to play a victim, it would be to get off on the pain from the person feeling sorry for them.
Maybe the hole world is stupid and ignorant but I'd rather be in it than down here with you. Captured scene from American Movie 'Girl interrupted' 1999 Staring Angelina Jolie and Winonna Ryders.
A true psychopath/sociopath would not have been affected by Susanas words. And she certainly would not have had a breakthrough like Lisa did. That would be too good to be true. How I wish we could reach them and have a positive impact on their mind.
the point is sociopaths and psychopaths are slightly different. Sociopaths are MADE whereas Psychopaths are BORN that way. Somehow we can hope for a sociopath to have warm emotions but never with psychopaths. They will always remain cold. Lisa was a sociopath and when she finally heard what she needed to, she changed. That's my theory.
The reason people assume that is because sociopaths don't give a damn what others think about them and are unable to emotionally connect w/ people, even friends. They only use people for their own gain and hell breaks loose when they don't get their way. It is possible for sociopaths to have mental breakdowns, but to have a breakdown because someone said some hurtful truths goes against commonplace sociopathy. Then again, we could be wrong. Can you please explain why that statement is wrong?
I like how Susanna stood up for herself to Lisa but I didn't like the last line Susanna Winona Ryder said to Angelina Jolie character Lisa I rather be in the world then down here with you thats just Mean an I think Susanna hurt Lisa feeling when she said that to Lisa thats why Lisa tried to Stabbing herself with the needle because of Susanna said to her.
Lisa was a bitch bro. She always said horrible things. Boo hoo she had problems they all had problems. She had Daisy kill herself. Reflecting on that now 10years later I hope you understand better. God bless.

This scene is so emotional, it makes me want to cry every time I watch it
I love this scene, one of my favorite movie scenes ever, I love Angelina, she's amazing.

This part right here is proof that the truth hurts.

and i have this theory that bipolar people just want to be validated more..they feel loneliness whereever they go..at least i do.

damn!! angie is sooooo good!
God, I miss this Angelina!
This is the Angelina that played roles with depth and layers to them. The movie "Gia" was just as complex.

I am almost convinced she had Borderline Personality Disorder with comorbidity of Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
Loved this scene

Lisa wasn't a psychopath
Bro. This is like a horror film
Lisa is awesome though.
My thoughts exactly!

A socio path would not give a shit what someone says. She wasn't one
