I developed a Habit of Reading before I could even read. Seriously! My mother let each of us, myself and my 3 brothers choose a funny(comic) book each month. I couldn't read yet but she still encouraged me to pick a book. So I would mimic my brother's while they read. And years later it was my brother who was laughing while reading Louis L'amour book "Tucker" which made me curious so then I read Tucker which started my journey of reading Every L.L. western that I could find. So I developed a reading habit that I still use today 54 years after first reading Tucker! Once when I was about 8 years old I was waiting for The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown to come on the television. I just layed on the bed for a minute to wait. I fell asleep and missed the Charlie Brown special. I was the Only one on the school playground the next day that wasn't able to join in on the fun talking about it. I would have to wait a whole year before it was on the television again! I was very upset! Thank you for posting this though provoking video. -James
This story would make a great video topic! People really enjoy watching your videos and its been interesting watching you focus on different subjects throughout the year. Oh yeah Bella! too. 👋
Not too long ago I talked about pressure booktubers put on themselves to read more. Whether it's their goodreads goal or whatever. I don't get that at all. Change the number! The pressure is self induced. For me, nonfiction naturally gets read slower. if I'm sucked into a fictional story though, I naturally read faster. Reading is my main hobby. I love reading for knowledge and I want to learn. I'm not a fan of rereading on purpose if I can recall the book. The only book I do reread annually is the Bible. We are all unique and each reader should read in the way that it best suited to them. And I think each of us should be open to changing too. I'm not the same reader I was last year, let alone four years ago, let alone 20 years ago. We should give ourselves grace to be the reader we are and allow the opportunity to flourish. Great walk and great talk.
Number of books is not a great metric. A lot of booktube daredevils out there! Which is admirable but like you said.... not the point. I love re reading, but I keep getting distracted by all the fun other people are having. This year's reading Goals were nothing like last years and next years will be much different as well.... not great for keeping subscribers but very beneficial for me.
To me, a good book is like a good meal. Meant to be enjoyed slowly and savored. To race through it is to invite a stomachache and excessive gas! Seriously, I have gone through periods where I read many books in a short time & I find my retention is pretty much nil. Kind of like cramming for a test in college. If it went in my head in a hurry, it left accordingly. But I am aware not everyone is like me! Your fall leaves are further along than ours in IL. Hope you are well & happy. Take care.
Most of booktube seems very.... gassy 😄. I like quick reads as much as the next guy, but some Books demand and deserve a bit more space. The leaves were demanding to be recorded.... so I came up with this book ramble on the spot 🤙. Take care friend!
You made some great points, especially the idea of taking time to think about an impactful book. There are days when I feel like reading non-stop but other days, I could easily spend an evening watching a movie. It's all good. The pressure to read a certain number of books by a certain time is self-imposed pressure. Just take time and enjoy. The booktube police are not going to come to your house if you haven't reached your Goodreads goal (at least, I don't think they will).
Some Books don't demand a tin of focus and that's fun too. If the book tube policy officers show up at your door just show them you Hide & Read subscription card. We constitute a sovereign nation.
Mainline booktube sets an unrealistic standard for people just getting into reading. As a hobby booktuber, I've only read 6 books this year so far. 2 in the first month and 4 since June. I do not force myself to read when I'm not feeling like it. And for all the collecting of western novels I do, I don't read as many as I collect that'd for sure. I'll choose normally to read either a chapter or 2 maybe 3 a day but I might even miss days or go two days without picking the book up. Its supposed to be fun and enjoyable. Not a chore. And not being the greatest reader without audiobooks, I have to take my time and a chapter of 10 pages can still take me a nearly an hour to read. But once I've finished the book, I can sure tell you what happened and if I enjoyed it or not.
Maybe you haven't read a ton of books this year but for someone like me your bookhauls are very valuable. Seasons of life, I don't want to think about it but I'm sure I've gone a whole year without reading a single book. Made up for it a bit this year. Thanks for watching and commenting 📚📚📚🤙
City Slicker counts audiobook as reading so in his racing example he would also have a moped to ride during the race... Cheater!!!😂 Funny you came out with this because I don't think I'm setting a reading quantity goal next year. I was thinking last night how I was reading to get pages done instead of reading it for pleasure. Goals are fun sometimes until they aren't. Great video...love the scenery. Hope you're doing ok during this current season brother. I know life can be rough sometimes.
I heard a rumor he uses Heelys for the downhill sections! My number of books is going way down next year because I want to read a few bigger novels that have been haunting me for quite some time now.
@@HideAndRead you mean those shoes with wheels... Don't say anything but he always has them on the wrong feet. City Slickers...what can you do. Yeah Musashi is what made me realize I'm reading for volume more than enjoyment and that is silly.
My motto that I made up for myself and I used to have it in quotations on my channel page in the about me section. Anyway I always say about mysel is that "I'm not a slow reader, I am just slow to read" which means that I have been sitting outside on my bench with my book for over two hours and I have read only three pages! Why? Because I am constantly stopping to look at TH-cam or to write something down about the book. However once I get rolling there's No Stopping Me! -James
I feel targeted lol. I don’t really read fast, just spend a lot of time reading. And BookTube keeps me pushing to read and meet goals. These Ken Liu books are huge and took me several weeks. November’s entry is 950 pages OMG 😱…going to be a busy November, and I love it. And I never read for clicks, I read because it takes me to places I want to go, and I get to meet new authors like L’Amour and new authors open new possibilities. NJ looks like IL with the orange and red leaves. 🍁
You are an inspiration to lots of us. Keep making that honest content and pursuing your personal goals! 950? Sounds fun. I have a fellowship read next month with 750 pages and it's been haunting me the past few weeks. Going to need to do a bit more hiding than usual for November. Be well!

The important thing is to enjoy and learn, not the quantity. I liked the place. So peaceful.
It's a great resting place for the living and the dead.
The colors are really on display 👌
