Incroyable! This can be used for normal cut in sheet metal design. A long kept secret of commercial cad programs.

AH! This is such a better solution than editing the sketch that's created by default when using the "sketch on surface" tool in the Curves Workbench.
EDIT: I can only seem to map b-splines this way. Not sure why.

I was having the same problem with the techniques in the video using version 0.21.2. I was able to get shapes other than b-splines to work by NOT creating the sketch first. Editing the sketch created on the "sketch on surface" tool as you mentioned.
For others running into this problem: First create the surface, then click on the surface to to sketch on, click the "sketch on surface" icon in the curves workbench. Then, double click the "Mapped_Sketch" object that was created with this action. Adding to this created sketch works for me.

It all worked for me up to mapping the sketch to the face. At which point the sketch disappeared completely. Is it me?

Hello, works great, both versions of mapping onto a face. The only Issue I am having, is after I create a sketch, I am unable to go to DRAFT workbench and place lettering onto the sketch to map to the face. The DRAFT workbench all the functions are greyed out. How could I use this to map lettering around a curvature to extrude or boolean difference to etch into a surface?

I have a video that I did a little while back in regards to this. I haven't released it yet, but I think I have decided on the video to release tomorrow 😁

@@MangoJellySolutions I appreciate it, I watched another person's video on how to do it, and nothing worked in his version.

I have been really struggling to get this to work for me, when I attach the sketch it doesn't appear on the object, but I have found that when "sketch on surface" doesn't produce a usable sketch you can just go in to the sketch and delete what it has created and create your own (i.e. the boundary area in construction geometry) and this then seems to work ok.

When I - Sketch_On_Surface - I'm getting an error ('Part.LineSegment' object has no attribute 'Construction') and the sketch is not mapped to the surface - any ideas where Im going wrong?

Do you have the blue construction geometry in your sketch your trying to map?

@@MangoJellySolutions Thanks for the reply - I've upgraded from 019.3 to 0.20 and that resolved the problem.

Ctrl + r is doing nothing for me. I don't know how, but I really do think I wound up with a bad FreeCAD installation or something. Things just aren't working for me the way they're supposed to.
EDIT 1: What I had when I wrote this comment, at first, was version .19. I gave up and installed the .20 Beta. It works a little better for this, but there are still problems. Could you please post the settings you have for your installation, so that people can more adequately follow along? I have to believe it's a setting thing - or something.
Also, it would be great if this video were a little more straight-through-the-lesson. The extra information and the deletions and so forth are a bit confusing because there's nothing on the screen that says what you did with your keyboard (you usually vocalize what you're doing, and you do a great job of it, but once in a while, you don't, and it's hard for a beginner to follow exactly what you're doing without a visual or audio clue as to which key you tapped on your keyboard to accomplish something). The other problem is that (I suspect that the settings have to do with this though) when I create extrusions and so forth, my FreeCAD ads a bunch of extra layers, instead of just one like yours does. Sometimes it throws in other layers that never show up on your screen. Those seem to combine a lot of information that can't easily be edited later, sometimes even deleting the layers you seem to be working out of. If it's not a settings thing, then I don't know what to do to fix this. It makes it very difficult to follow along in your tutorial.
EDIT 2: So, basically, I had to do the first half of the first way of doing this and meld it with the 2nd half of the 2nd way of doing this. I think. I'm not sure, but eventually I did finish this tutorial successfully! On reflection, I believe FreeCAD .20 has dropped some of the previous methods of working with the layers (or whatever they're called) that are used for doing this tutorial.
Also, I'm thinking about going back and attempting to do lessons 3.3 and 3.4 again, now that I have version .20 installed. Maybe that's what I needed? I have no clue. Not tonight, though; I'm done CADing for this evening.

Sorry bit behind in replying to comments. I am looking to go through and remake some of these tutorials with the other assembly workbenches and newer versions of freecad. There are a number of assembly workbenches out there and some interesting ones that have come up on the radar, great you have got through the tutorial. And thanks for the comments , I will take those on board, always welcome.

As soon as I use the map sketch on curved surface command as in 8:42, the message "Links go out of the allowed scope" appears and the programme crashed.
