- This is it.... the final battle with Gary Oak! Or Blue since the games came before the show in Japan. In which case, he'd be called Green or Red. Either way, he's the Elite Four champion and he has a good team, which changes depending on the Pokémon you started with. In Yellow, it depends on other things like if you didn't fight him before Viridian Forest or lost to him, mostly it just changes what his Eevee evolves into.
Just look at him, his hair stands out, almost like an afro. He has the most determined look on his face, and the most boss vest you'll ever see in the world, even though it's 8-bit. He holds a ball in his hand and just... it's too intense. Don't forget those moon boots.
Oh yeah, as for the fight, it's pretty difficult. I got REALLY close to losing, and I should've avoided messing with metronome but hey, you could always do something epic with it. Blue's Pokémon are mean, tough, and have good attacks (except for Rhydon and Exeggutor). With Gyarados as the final survivor, I reach with one Pokémon, level 50.
Hate comments like "you suck" are gladly welcome, and good entertainment as well. I clearly made some mistakes in this battle, I hadn't played the game in years before doing this "boss run".
Was 15 years old when I wrote that description. Kind of cringing... This battle is insanely easy, and since I hadn't really played in a long time I didn't understand how the special stat worked or why the special attacks were bad on Alakazam. I'd thought special was just for attack, otherwise I could've beaten it real easily with probably just 2 attacks of strength with Charizard.
I also did drag it out a bit having fun with metronome, in general I just wanted to record an entertaining fight. But also, this fight represents essentially what all of us as children would've played out like, hence me not knowing about how dumb the special stat is in this game. - เกม

Yeah but it was one of the best battles of all time I'd rather have a tough and challenging champion then a wimpy and weak one the only thing that beats out Blue and Red on the challenging factor is a Wi-Fi battle take that! Unless you've IV and EV trained Pokemon in the first place.

Yeah as an 8-9 year old kid playing this for the first time back in the 90s, I was so relieved when I beat Lance, only to find out my best friend beat him before me (rival was best friend's name) then the music started, then when he sent out pidgeot at level 63.... Those moment stay with you for life, still proud to say I beat the old elite 4 on my first try, the only Pokémon I had left to beat the rival at the end was my charizard, and even at level 78 it still found it hard, I was the best in my school for a reason ;) lol

Remember, During Gen 1 Special Attack and Special Defense were combined into One Stat, Meaning that Pokemon like Alakazam could dish out some powerful Special Moves and Take a lot of them as well.

This is how I played when I was a kid. “My Clefable can do anything!!!!!!” And being faithful to “weak’ pokemon. Honestly it was way more exciting and I remember my heart pounding
Yeah I definitely believed in the heart of the cards more when I was a wee lad. That emotional connection to the sprites in the game is something I'll never be able to get back but will always cherish.
Alakazam is definitely the toughest Pokémon in Blue’s arsenal.
Alakazam was always hard to take down. Other than the starter the rest of his Pokemon weren't too terrible to take down.

honestly I played real bad though, this is borderline overleveled if I were to play now. I could take out red in gold/silver in mid to upper 40s, but the team is essential. jumpluff by level 45 will outspeed all of red's pokemon and can easily put them to sleep/leech seed for instance

The chills and flood of nostalgia... being 7 years old in '97 and hearing the league championship battle theme begin. I was both thrilled and terrified. It's definitely one of those moments that stick with you.

I was literally screaming at my screen during this fetches back so many good memories from my childhood
When I played this game, I mostly just focused on raising my Charmander and didn't really develop the other Pokemon I had except when I needed to. He became so powerful I managed to defeat most major trainers in the game with him very easily. I struggled with Brock and needed an Oddish to defeat Misty, but the other gym leaders and all the rival battles were easy. I defeated the Elite Four and the final rival battle with just Charizard and some revives.

You did pretty good considering the lower levels of your pokemon. Everybody always has trouble with Alakazam in this battle because Psychic pokemon had a ridiculous advantage in red blue and yellow since they were only weak against bugs. It always took me forever to get to this point because I never challenged the elite 4 until all my pokemon were at least lv 55. Still brings back some awesome middle school memories for me.

@@perfectcell5613 No. The three Ghost type Pokemon in this game were also Poison type Pokemon, they could be one shoted by the Psychic type and the only Ghost type move was Night Shade which wasn't super effective but neutral in terms of effectiveness and damage.
Blue's theme song here was too badass.
Blue's alakazam was the bane of my existence in yellow cuz every time I damaged it, it used recover OVER, AND OVER and over again
I didn't know what I was doing that much, as I said it was my first time playing in years, at least 6. I know you weren't trying to insult me. But the point of videos like these are for either entertainment or help.

Today, I have finally beat the final boss on my copy of Red for the 3DS. As I recall, I got it the year it first released on the 3DS virtual console, but while I was still on the Vermillion city gym, I stopped playing because I wasn't really fond of all the grinding. But after hearing that Ash and Pikachu will be leaving the anime after 25 years, I started playing Red along with my copies of Sun and SoulSilver in honour of that iconic duo. And after about 7 years, I finally beat the Elite Four, my rival and finally became world champion. It was a long journey and Lance really did a number o my team, but I pulled through in the end. My team consisted of Venusaur, Raichu, Lapras, Graveler, Kadabra and Aerodactyl, all at level 51. Now that I finally beat the main story mode in Red, there's still Sun and Soulsilver to beat. I'm not entirely sure when I'll beat those as I'm kinda preoccupied with my other games are more responsibilities, but I'm sure I'll beat them someday.
Tactically as sound as every other 10 year old of the time playing this... lol I love it.
We never saw the Kanto Rival in the clothes he wore as Champion, until Heartgold and Soulsilver. His Heartgold and Soulsilver clothers are just about the same clothes we saw him wear fighting him as Champion in Pokemon Red and Blue. To be honest, Generation I of Pokemon was a great way to end the original Game Boy with a bang. Pokemon Yellow was the game that ended the original Game Boy with a bang by adding Game Boy Color support for the international releases. Japan had only Super Game Boy support because Game Boy Color didn't come out yet at the time of Pokemon Yellow's Japanese Release.
I miss battles where it was actually a challenge, where you basically pull a win out your ass because they are tough. Haven't had a good battle like that since the sinnoh league

@@bluerious5475 To be fair, Spiritomb was a pain in the ass simply because it didnt have a weakness. Garchomp was literally just any ice type with enough bulk to survive one attack and an Ice Beam.

It always feels good to beat the final boss with lower level pokemon. Like when I beat Red in Gold when my highest level pokemon was a level 57 Ampharos. Ah, good times.
The concept of the rival was absolutely genius and the game would not have been nearly as great without it.
Man that was down to the wire! I'm proud of you for that. You got lucky with those status ailments though. Also I can't blame for using Metronome, it's a fun attack, even if not the most practical.
Brings back memories...I remember one time rolling in with a Kabutops, Dragonite, all 3 starters, and a Raichu on a first attempt.

Interesting how the rival in Red/Green/Blue wears a different outfit for the Champion battle. In Pokémon Yellow, he's just in a different pose, like he's ready to toss his Pokéball onto the battlefield.
It's too bad because in Yellow he's such a pushover. His pokemon may change depending on if you win or lose to him at certain points in the game but they're all weaker pokemon than red/blue. I struggled more with Lance in Yellow change Blue. The better AI made him a pain

Charming match I like the Metronome and attack use. It reminds me of my first years playing this game. I faintly remember I had a very high level Pigeot but had trouble with the League lol
That was me in Pokemon Yellow. I had to use my Master Ball on Zapdos in order to get past Lorelei. I was sweeping the entire game with either Nidoking or Pidgeot. Nidoran Male was ideal against Brock because it could learn Double Kick. Mankey was pretty good too!
