He was pretty older but even wit the experience he couldn’t contain Shaq. I think Shaq lowkey was making a point with the finesse game at first like the commentators said. Shaq is petty like that so I can believe it
Mutombo was a block artist, even though he was older he was still regarded for blocking shots and layups. I don't think he ever had to hold a guy like shaq who could just break his neck in the paint.
Let me tell you how Good SHAQ was in his prime.. In 2001 Mutombo won the Defensive player of the year, that same year SHAQ made him look like he was a a little kid getting dunked on 5 times a game... No one in the history of mankind can guard a prime Shaq (2000-02) 1 on 1.
@@anthonyscarpa6107 Shaq would’ve been called for charging - a lot - for the way he played if he did that in the 60’s or 70’s… even in the 80’s. Wilt was actually as strong - if not stronger - than Shaq. Plus - older Wilt was over 300 lbs, whereas Motumbo was 255-260, max and not remotely as strong as Wilt or Shaq. Big difference.
2000/2001: 9th season in the league.. Not really his prime.. Shaq was an amazing basketball player from LSU years to his Heat period. Over 15 years..... Top 3 center, top 10 ever for sure. My fav player.
Shaq wanted that back to back championship so bad. And it's clear that he wanted the lakers to go undefeated throughout the playoffs that year. This performance is nothing compared to how dominant he was in the western conference playoffs. Ally's, and 1's, shot after shot. Half of his teammates were averaging double-doubles.
After I found out the REFS were PURPOSELY holding a grudge against Iverson and refused to make obvious calls because he threatened a ref during this series, it makes you wonder could the 76ers extend this series a couple of games? No way am I saying they would win but it makes you wonder
Yeah same, its hard to have longevity at 7'1 340 lbs. But just in their primes, Jordan is the only prime i have over Shaqs prime. LeBron's prime (imo the back to back heatles chips) is really close and debatable.
shaq had passion to be great dwight howard could've been just as good but he didn't take it seriously enough.shaq step up his game when it mattered the most.dwight wasted his talent and didn't have the passion to be a all time great like shaq.
Shaq isn't even dominating Iverson tho... Kobe was marking Ivo and vice versa, I can't remember a play where Ivo had to guard Shaq... now Shaq dominating Mutombo I can see
I miss you Shaq
Sixers traded for Mutumbo that year for one purpose alone: to guard Shaq. And man, that failed. The Ghost of Matt Geiger, playing on one leg (and ending his career in the process) did a better job guarding Shaq that series. Mutumbo was helpless. Frankly Mutumbo was a huge disappointment that whole season. Zero offense, almost no defense on opposing bigs. His skill was leaving his man and blocking shots of guards and forwards who came into the paint. I'm not sure he was ever a great defender against a good big man like Shaq or the Dream or Duncan or anyone else with some actual footwork skills.
Another fun fact: Sixers game announcers that season used to keep joking that Mutumbo was probably 2-4 yrs older than reported. I think early on it was meant as a respect-thing: dude is still effective at this age! Toward the end of the season it devolved more into "Dude is way past his prime and looks every bit 40 yrs old now."
Dominated a 38 Dikembe Mutombo, 37 Robinson, 36 Divac and Rik Smiths. A Orlando Magic Shaq was way more scarier and class of centers were realllly tough not that child's play

Mutomo was known for the fact that nobody cant dunk on him, and I just saw 10 dunks on him in the same game
In the entire finals we saw 10+ dunks on him.

How I miss Shaq, good times
You can tell Shaq was feeling it after that dunk 51sec...str8 beast

How many times did Mutombo got posterized ? My godness it was unfair !!!
holy shit this was Shaq's ultimate form I don't give a fuck what all time team you tell me about they would not stop this lakers team

He’d be Wilt Chamberlain

Mutombo was defensive player of the year
And you would never guess it watching this. This looked like a toy car trying to get in front of an 18 wheeler. Literally no chance.
Not in this game he wasn't lol
30/16 on 55% shooting
Shaq was unstoppable
Mutombo is the one Shaq's dominating here!
+marzilyas no, it's the whole sixers team.

And he would have done the same to any other center ! It was like Mike Tyson in his Prime in the ring

Good video and great name Karl.
Shaq was the Mike Tyson of basketball
Best center of all time
Shaq’s iq is underrated

Shaq is like thanos
That's nuts no matter who was on him Shaq bullied his way into the hole and just dunked no matter what

It would be a no contest
Jokic no
Giannis nope
Embid not even
Everyone else zimbabwe chicken.
Ni el mejor defensor de la liga pudo detenerle, hizo lo que quiso con el sencillamente... Shaq the best
Shaq was so unfair
Shaq just overpowered centers like Dikembe. Scored almost at will😊
That's what a real NBA big man looks like
Why can't Dwight Howard be this dominant destructive low post force?
Maybe because he's not 7'1 330 pounds
1227weaverb Charles Barkley at 6'6" tall was way more dominant in the low post than Howard will ever be.
