In the UK do the farmers own their land or are they in long term tenancy agreements?

Both, you can be a tenant farmer of your council if you can show you can do the job. If you Google Hampshire county council tenant farmer, for example, it gives you more information and a list of vacancies.

Can also be a tenant on big estate owners. Generally we have 3 types of tenancy. 364 which is more like contract farming. Farm business tenancy (goes on for set amount of years). And AHA agricultural holding act, this generally goes on for 3 generations.
