Chinese search engine giant Baidu will launch the country's first metaverse platform. Xi Rang, which means "land of hope" in English, can be accessed via smartphones, computers or VR goggles, allowing users to create avatars and interact with other players. Baidu says it aims to develop Xi Rang into an infrastructure platform for a metaverse and incorporate functions such as gaming, entertainment, education, advertising, conferences and exhibitions, among others.

If metaverses keep expanding their scope globally, maybe they could be useful language learning tools. Users can experience some semblance of conversation in a “country” they can’t otherwise visit
or real-time translation
You need metavisa for that LOL
you think China's 'metaverse' would be open to outsiders ?
Yeah and completely lie about what their country is like 😂😂 cough* NK cough*

Whether it's Facebook (Meta) or Baidu, this just looks like a computer game with VR glasses. Is it really such a big, new development?
To each his own, ??
yeah ikr

Just like that one scene of rows of dreamers in Inception, they don't want to be waken up.

Okay. Marked
I'll go find a highlighter so I can mark your words.

I'll come back after 10 years, someone reply to me then.
SecondLife in its current state actually looks more modern than this. The demo here has no materials (bump maps, specular) or an apparent lighting model whilst SecondLife does. The users avatar does not turn smoothly whilst SecondLife does. Think this has a long way to go to really be something
VR chat should be on the news for stuff like this. Its basically what this is
Yeah and VRChat looks better than that.
The only difference is the size of a map and the number of people on it
*roblox vr intensifies*
I really can’t see how this will become big in the future. I guess this is how people felt when the internet was being created/came out.
Edit: Unless VR becomes so advanced to the point where all 5 senses can be felt when you enter the VR world, I don’t see how this will become huge.
VR will be huge. This however ... is behind its time already. Minus the ccp propaganda of course.
this is the next big thing my guy
I have to agree. How can ALL of the senses truly be replicated by these technologies? Most especially touch and taste? I've read there are touch interfaces. But how can virtual touch truly replace touching another person or thing in the flesh? And as for taste you can't just give a person a taste of some food and expect that to substitute for actual sustenance?!
@@sann5146 honestly, getting VR to that point needs more than just code monkeys, we’re gonna need neuroscientists and a giant expendable budget as well
Exactly what I was thinking
I believe all big IT companies already doveloping something like this for a decade or more. now, it's the time to release it as a product. personally, I think it will attract only a small group of people like "second life" decades ago. but, maybe they have some new idea to make it really useful, I don't know.

I don't know why people are unhappy about this. Not everyone is outgoing and comfortable with people. There are people with conditions like Social Anxiety(myself being one) who would greatly benefit from this. Social Anxiety is literally a mental disorder with no treatment but therapy. Can there be one that shows places in China? Since there are cameras can you transfer some of the scenes that are pretty current to it so people can get a real feel for the places. You don’t have to have real known people but the real stores and products in places. What people wear during any calendar year so others can get a feel of what to wear, what you can eat, the whole atmosphere. Something like this would of been great before the Olympics, so people could of planned things better.
People will gradually
addict with this animation environment.
China became no 1 in every feild of technology.
What a sad reality we live in now
Their goal is to transfert life into machine
The thing about this whole metaverse is that it look like you play sims or gta but in AR or more realistic than only controlling it with mouse and keyboard…
One step closer towards achieving a real life sword art online 😂
That frame rate is garbagio
Nice idea but the graphics could do with a lot of improvement.
Closest we will ever get to anime... enjoy
We will all be eventually linked up to the metaverse via implantables
