@Xeretix Fields of the Nephilim is definitely pretty heavy for a gothic rock band. In fact, they put out a metal album under the name Nefilim, played at metal festivals, and collaborated with Nergal of Behemoth. I can certainly see the appeal of a band like this to a metalhead. I too started with metal, but appreciate various forms of 'dark ' music, including metal.
What im currently feeling: I'm back in the 'golden' 80ies, see Nephilim live in Berlin/Hasenheide, standing right in front of Pauls Guitar and listen this amazing Arrangement. Could'nt beated.
This is atmospheric music to to a TEE. It has a memory all of its own that will never be forgotten even if we tried, this will still play echoing forever, even after the worlds end!!

Yep, I guess you can say I was "Raised" on metal... as a teenager that was what I listened to, but now I have branched out. I never listened to pure goth rock except Sisters of Mercy and FIelds of the Nephilim, but i do like some of the more "Romantic" darkwave, neoclassical and neofolk-type bands like Sopor Aeternus, Dargaard, and Faith and the Muse.
Carl's one of the few vocalists who can switch from clean vocals to growl and back. And make it seem effortless. Tatiana Shmayluk of Jinjer can do that too.
I had the same reaction 23 years ago when I first stumbled upon them....and I am still not tried of them. They are one of the best memories I have of that time period, and I am glad you found them! Enjoy!
I was always and am still a Metal fan, but somehow i gradually and almost unnoticeably became also also a Goth rock fan. A pretty obvious starting point - Sisters Of Mercy. Then The Mission, Play Dead, March Violets, The Cult, The Cure, Fields ... i guess it's something in the dark, theatrical expression of shattered hopes and cynicism. Or maybe it's the cool, restrained vocals and punkish rhythms that do it for me. btw i'm long past my teenage years. :)
My fave band of all time!!!! Went to see them when they played the shepherds bush empire.Still waiting for the release of the live dvd of that event to emerge. Anyone know what's happening with it???? Supposed to have been released 2 years or so ago.Thanks for posting this great video :D
@EichlerHawk I can promise you that all of the lyrics are quite meaningful. Just watch the few and rare interviews with Mr. McCoy and you will see. Theres been published only a few lyrics in they're albums, many people has been deciphering them as best they can from what they hear. Many are quite correct written and understood too I believe, but its hard to know for sure due to the vocals and such if u understand. But the more you listen the more you want to know. - Forever Remain -
