Rest in Peace Peter. Leeds have one hell of a team in Heaven. And thanks for this reminder of a classic era of football. What a shot Peter had, couldn't even see some of these shots. Goalies must have thought, who are we playing today, Leeds, Oh God, Lorimer, I'll get my coat.

Leeds were a favourite team for a lot of Scots laddies in the late 60's and 70's due to the number of Anglos in their team, even more so for fellow Dundonians because of Peter Lorimer, the boy did good, may he rest in peace.

I can remember, as if it was only yesterday, watching my first football match on TV in 1973 at the age of 9 in New Zealand.
It was a team in white against a team in red and white stripes.
The team in white seemed pretty good and I clearly remember them losing 1-0.
There was a guy in the white team with a really hard shot and I thought he’d scored, but it hit the bar.
Then the replay showed the keeper saved it before hitting the bar.
The player in white was Peter Lorimer (Leeds) the keeper was Jim Montgomery (Sunderland).
It was the 1973 FA Cup final.
For the next few weeks we would play football in our back yard, I was always Peter Lorimer and practiced shooting as hard as I could.
When it was my turn in goal I was Jim Montgomery.
RIP Peter Lorimer, you were the main reason I kicked a ball around our back yard for years and have given me so many great memories.

I used to support Leeds United in the 60's and 70's, in the great days before football became big business. Peter Lorimer was a hugely talented player who could hit accurate volleys from a distance. One thing that's not mentioned however is that he could bend the ball not only sideways, which was one of his recognised trademarks, but also vertically, which caught many goalkeepers out. Very unusual. Thanks for posting this.

All top three were amazing strikes. If he had one shot back in his career I think it would be in the 1973 FA Cup final. I always think that if he had kept his shot on the ground, Jim Montgomery wouldn’t have been able to save it. Definitely one of the best strikers of the ball in his era. You don’t see long range accuracy in the Premier League these days.

I remember other kids pretending to be Peter in the playground as a kid. It’s taken me several decades to find out why but finally I’ve been educated. So many excellent goals the final one as good as any I’ve ever seen.

Along with George Best, Peter Lorimer was my favourite player of the seventies. They used to say he had the hardest shot in football.
