Motorcycle Rim Tape Installation & Night Test Ride without Applicator

  • I installed some reflective rim tape on my Honda CBR 250R. An important step in the installation is prepping the wheels to ensure that it is clean. This kit did not come with an application tool so I had to stick them on by hand. Tools I needed were shop towels, grime and grease remover, scissors, and a rear motorcycle stand. After installation, I tested how reflective it was at night.
    Thanks to Jenny, Isabel, and Christi for helping me film the night ride footage.

    Something about your personality makes it so easy to watch and learn from you. You remind me of my cousin before he passed away so I can appreciate your subtle sense of humor. You’re awesome buddy (even if the vid is 5 yrs old)

    Look up CustomTaylor33 reflective tape. It costs more but so much more reflective

      Great comment. I didn't think the reflection was very bright, or effective.

    good video .
    I actually pulled my wheels off when i did mine. also did it in my room, it's too hot out here in central florida !! I'm actually going to redo the first side that i did, i didnt realize there was enough tape in the kit and didn't overlap and have tiny gaps on the first side that i did....

    • @Brownbrady
      @Brownbrady  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +samuel lopes Thank you for the comment. The kit is cheap enough that you can buy extras for redoing it if you're not happy with the application.

      cladbecaha exactly what I was thinking too.
      I use to clean mine every weekend and it never look this clean.
      I only clean it fortnightly now or when I’m really lazy, every 3rd week.
      But I’d lube it every week though (but full clean every 2-3 weeks).

    Spraying the wheels with water helps as well to move the tape around, then smooth down and dry with a dry microfibre cloth, also, you need to overlap all the ends, in time and I mean a few weeks the tape will shrink,overlap them all

    It's better to start the tape in the same direction the overlap is when you spin the wheel when cleaning to prevent pulling up the edge.

    The only problem arises when you stick the sticker directly is, you'll never get a room to adjust it whenever it looks unbalance visually. As a good advice, pour a little shampoo on a glass of water until the water in the glass turns slippery. Then, before you stick the sticker to its place, put some of that slippery shampoo/water to your rims so initial it won't stick immediately, so you can still adjust it till you find the perfect fit for the sticker. When everything fits right, just leave it for an hour, the sticker will still sticks perfectly at the right place.
