After some crazy wipes with Blooprint, Frost, Hjune and Aloneintokyo, This time im playing with @Konfuzion as we take on Rusts brand new Abyss Update! we tried to build the worlds first moving base by controlling the rust tugboat for a wipe! i hope you enjoy.

I think the tug boat will likely be a phase, but I'd imagine in a custom map thats mostly water they'd be alot better.

And so, the big Pirate Era began.
The issue with the tugboat is eventually you're going to (if you aren't already) run into clans that go out of their way to nuke every tugboat. Like it only takes a squad of three or four guys using rockets to take the boat down in seconds, and thanks to the bad hitbox, just one or two rockets can immediately empty an occupied boat.
It's a really fun, novel idea, assuming clans and stream snipers don't exist.

Rust devs keep pumping out content. I expect someday you'll be able to build full custom waterworld type vehicles and bases.
pumping out content with bugs + making old bugs appear again.. rust devs are the type of developers that thinks that pumping out content is the only thing they have to do lol.. facepunch sucks so much their content makes no difference to rust.. their new locations give nothing to us, no new items, no new craftables, no new recipes, props to break its just the same items over and over again.. fck them

They can pump out content, yes. A balanced game? Not so much. If a tug boat can be practically one shot then they wouldn't have even been invented. It takes a good 3 large vessel torpedoes to actually sink a tug boat relatively fast irl. To see it be sunk in seconds well it kinda hit me like a brick. My grandfather worked on one for a living. The boat sunk during WW2 because of... well ya know what was happening during those times. He didn't survive and the boat is at the bottom of the ocean somewhere.

Well, at least the bad hitboxes make the doors a bit more tanky, maybe that's actually a good thing considering you can protect the rooms only with one door. So it's at least not as bad as having only one steel door at a normal base.

Rust is one of the games I’ve never played and I’m self aware that I wouldn’t be able to play but I can watch these types of videos all day long.. I feel like I know how to play without needing to play just from watching these.. I also like the small nuances such as when you kill a stacked player you don’t immediately loot and you let your partner check the loot before taking it.
Sorry man but it's only feeling that you know how to play this game from videos. If you dont play it on your own, you never feel the level of emotions player experience, which is extreme. Watching videos is realy the relaxation. Grab the mouse and you'll feel diferent..
Also let other player check the loot is only good for streaming and screen capture because both of them makes their own video edit so they want to his both viewers to see it. In real game you say omg hes loaded while looting and then check after you are safe. But nice attention for details.
Caution ⚠ this game is pretty addictive.
There are a lot of servers that are modded to be easier to noobs or even just full PVE as opposed to the vanilla PVP gameplay, It's growing in popularity among the less skilled and reflexive because of it. If you have a rig capable of playing it, I'd recommend dipping your toes into one of those servers.
I played on a couple PVE servers for a wipe and there are alot of 30+ y/o gamers who are paying to keep these servers active.
@sirshrooma That makes me more eager to play. Was hoping there was a less competitive server, or ones with bots only even, to practice on.
@@wayneerichsen You can create an empty local server with an online guide, it's pretty simple. I wouldn't recommend looking for empty servers online, since they always have really scummy players who just roam to wipe all the bases they find. And playing on populated servers is an unforgiving experience if you're new. I kind of wish Rust just had a singleplayer mode. The game is 10 years old, but it's still missing such bare bones features like easy private server hosting.
I bounced off Rust for a couple of years in the beginning due to never being able to get a foothold in the game til i found a solo/duo server with slowed workbench progression (so very little boom early wipe) which gave me enough breathing space to learn to game and start feeling comfortable with how to survive and thrive on more competitive servers.
It seems like the tugboat would be a great use for a respawn point for oil rigs or raids.
its like a cruiser, the rhigs are like destroyers and small boats are frigates and the tugs are like main combat power, destroyers are to guard to tug and the smalls to help attacks with the rhigs and tug

Amazing to get this video out this quick, thanks Willjum! I understand your frustration on Twitter after seeing what happened, but I'd be more sad about the hitbox issue - which honestly they gotta fix soon, look at all the different hitboxes for walls, it's maddening. Tugboats are too OP for clans, it gives them even more respawns. I think it's alright to make them fairly vulnerable. Cheers, Will!!
I have an idea for a duo to 4man video. On wipe day build a base in shallow water but on the water side deep enough for the tug boat. Once you can build a compound the boat would be safe from subs. I loved the way you used the tug boat as storage while you used the small boats to loot the ocean. Imagine taking the tug boat to take oil or labs. All the loot you normally have to leave you could bank it all. Labs would be crazy on a large pop server. Constantly running loot back to tub boat at the surface. I wonder if you can land a mini on top of a tug boat. Thanks for the great video.

I was thinking about something like this, but I highly doubt a tugboat would fit through an external gate. You'd have to leave a path open for it. Do turrets target enemy subs? If so I was thinking maybe something like an L shaped china wall with turrets lining the inside. you could park the boat beyond the bend so subs wouldn't have a clear line of sight to fire torpedoes from the outside and the turrets would at least be a deterrent against people just swimming in the back.
i don't know if they already have this in rust, cuz i dont play it, but they should add a anti-air turret, that can be placed on boats, and they MUST be manned to use, plus they could add upgrades for the tugboat that would like upgrade it to metal, and give it more health. basically, make an entire navy war update

@Willjum isnt a sunken tugboat the perfect base? unless it despawns after some time due to beeing sunken. getting a load of diving tanks never seemed like an issue to me back when i played. the question is if one can place stuff in a sunken tug it seemed like boxed get autodestroyed before it sinks to prevent abusing it.
Wiljum should be a fisherman with the tugboat. Its the ultimate combination

With the tugboat update I would love to see you team up with other players like spoon kid ect. So you could build a big compound where you can dock the boat and act like pirates of the rust seas...
they should use the tugs like cruisers for main firepower then rhigs as destroyers to assist the tugs and also fight on their own and then use small boats to guard the tug and do skirmishes onto other tugs

Rust is a cinnamatic masterpiece. You spend all of wipe trying to get a tug boat and you get one, and every thing is going your way. Then out of nowhere everything that you fought for is gone, willjums movies also have great climaxes

raiding big bases near ocean side on tugs with like 5 launchers gonna be sick asf or if they added like a military ship like cargo but way bigger and lasting longer would be so dope
How long does it take for your loot to despawn after the ship sinks? Though, it would be an extra challenge getting any of it back since it's sitting on the sea floor right next to labs.

I think maybe they made the doors on the boat harder to break because literally it's only one door to the main cargo compartment and then the two for the cabin so I would imagine they made it harder for you to get through those just to make it a little Warfare for everybody that uses the boats
If they wanted to make doors harder to break they would have given them increased durability not a janky hit box that doesn’t registers hits.

Tugboat doors are probably stronger by design.
You cant add more doors to the tugboat like with a base, so they have to be strong.

@@samboatman6688 Considering both the wood door and the metal doors are more damage resistant, it looks intentional.
I wouldnt mind seeing how much more difficult armoured doors are to get through.
its true, tug boats can move, but ribs and boats are faster. If a couple attackers approach by boat and get you on bag timer, you're screwed.
Then its just one door to their loot, so you want that to be a hard door to get through.
Im not sure if chests can be put in the pilots cabin, so they wouldnt need to bother with those doors.
@@Don-ii4vmjust gotta see how everything plays out, if shotty traps and flame traps can be placed, they’ll be super hard to raid, random utilities that are already cancer to break and can stall several rockets can delay and act as a layer of internal protection, but idk, just gotta see how it goes

As a solo trapper, this. I never stay one place for long. If your traps are effective, you will be have a "base" in every other square it seems.
