I attended the workshop. Can't recommend Mark's workshops (and videos) enough. If you want to learn about painting beach scenes, water or marine scenes then Mark's channel is the one to follow. Also highly recommend their recipe book on their website!

Excellent tutorial!! I've never been truly satisfied with my skies, but adding some Phthalo blue to the Ultramarine for the upper level of the sky was very helpful! Thank you. That final blend with a light sweep of the larger brush is also a great tip. Understanding the water color gradations helps a lot, too.

I wanted to try this painting but I didn’t bring french ultramarine… I’m on holiday for a week not near any art supplies? Help?
Hmmm that's a bit difficult. If you have Dioxazine Purple and Pthalo Blue you can try warming up the Pthalo with a tiny touch of Dioxazine. Or if you have Alizarine you could try that. It won't be that beautiful bright summer sky though!
Is there a reason , Mark, why you don’t use painters tape for your horizon?
There are a few reasons. The main one is that because our earth is a sphere, the horizon rarely appears as a hard, distinct line. Using tape creates a hard line which when viewed, sets off our BS alarms in a very subtle way. Using a brush means we can create a bit of atmosphere along that horizon line too, which generally appears much more realistic. It's also just a personal preference. Good practise for painting a straight line too :) Hope that answers your question!
How about just using the tape to do the horizon ?
