I'm glad this brought back good memories. My first international trip was on a 747. I wish I could have flown some of those other planes. Thanks for watching.
@ Thanks for posting this. I grew up in Long Beach and saw many of The McDonnell Douglas Planes roll off the assembly line and fly off to their final destinations with the air carriers or military.
My first overseas military deployment was in 1989 on an L-1011. 25-hour journey from LA to Japan with several stops enroute where we were not allowed to deplane. Never been so happy to get off of a plane in my life. They were a noisy/clunky plane to fly on. They made a series of unusual noises that I have never heard on a plane before or since.
@@aviationwithjeff I didn't know there's an area at Long Beach Airport where you can do plane spotting. Care to tell me where exactly is located at? Great airplane spotting.
I might have helped build that L1011. Worked for Lockheed right after A&P school back in late 1972. There were a couple of Air Canada planes on the line then. Also I learned to fly at LGB. Learned at Rainbow Air and later bought one of his planes and leased it back to them. Big mistake! Since I lived 5 blocks from the airport and flew from there I know that airport very well.
As iconic as these planes are, I still miss the 727s, the BAC 1-11s, the VC10s, and the Concordes. I had to cover my ears as the Concorde or the BAC 1-11 was flying overhead because they're extremely deafening to hear as they take off. Same with the VC10. But I still miss them. Reminds me of my childhood days.
I agree William, I grew up in the late 90’s so missed a lot of the glory days… although some of what you mentioned remained (the odd BAC 1-11, 707, DC-10/MD-11, etc)… I would do anything to go back even if for a day🙁
Those would've been amazing planes to see in action. At least we still get the 727s once in a while with ZeroG. Thanks for sharing your memories and for watching!
There are companies that dismantle these old planes for the aluminum, (airplane boneyards) but anything that's still of value and useable is like electronic components etc are kept to sell on. However, being that there are probably no more than a few L-1011's if not this being maybe the last flying one, there isn't much of a used parts market anymore for L-1011's. So i suspect once they can't locate anymore parts, this one will go to scrap, but hopefully it can be preserved somewhere.
There are probably 30 or 40 tri-stars sitting up at the old air logistics space near Victorville. The former George Air Force Base. There’s enough spares up there to keep that bird flying for years. Decades if they wanted to.
Runway 30/12was built back when Douglas was building DC8s. It’s 10,000 feet long. Not many commercial aircraft need more than that even at gross weight.
@@flyerbob124 I worked for MDC in to 80s and 90s and flight dispached DC10s, MD11s, C17s. We used help the Antonov when they came to pickup heavy large equipment or huge generators. Had a lot of flybys back then. LGB tower always gave the okay.
Awesome video Jeff! I loved going to LGBA with my son to watch airplanes. We now live in South Carolina and although we live near GSP there are no places for plane spotting. I really miss it! Please continue to post your great videos!
When my kids were little, we used to drive up from Santa Ana just about every weekend to the AAA parking lot. Every once in a while, the pilot would wave to my little boys. don’t get much cooler than that.
The only flying L 1011 !!
Yes. I learned that too! Thanks for watching!
The l-1011
Thanks for watching!
Late 10 Times out of 11.😆
Keep grinding baby. Gotta love the sound of those old turbofans.
L-10-11 was ahead of its time. Awesome aircraft. Flew in them several times
Awesome. Thanks for sharing some memories and Thanks for watching!
What a treat to catch the L1011! I miss the yesteryears of these classic planes 😢
Yeah. Makes me wish I could've flown more of these classics. They are all so cool. Thanks for watching!
2:24 ❤
Absolutely fantastic catches 👏
Thanks for watching!
The L-1011, 747 and 727 were my favorite planes to fly in. I miss flying in them. The DC-10 was also a nice plane to fly in.
I'm glad this brought back good memories. My first international trip was on a 747. I wish I could have flown some of those other planes. Thanks for watching.

Man I miss the L-1011, specially the Delta Widget livery.
I hope seeing this brought back some good memories. Thanks for watching!
That and the TWA livery were the best.

amazing footage ya. Love and liked ❤️☺️✌🏻🇲🇾
Thanks for watching!
The plain spotting is much better in my opinion from the AAA parking lot on the other side of the runway. Just my opinion.
L1011 Beautiful machine!
Yes it is! Thanks for watching!
Ex Air Canada frame
Yes it is
Nice pull.🫵🏻👌🏻
Stargazer!!!! What a beauty… that Pegasus ain’t half bad neither, nice one Jeff👍🏼😎
I agree. I wish the USAF didn't retire the KC-135. That would've been a cool one to see here too. Anyway, thanks for watching!
Oh Yeah! I love that L-1011 a lot! Thanks a lot for filming these Jeff 👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed seeing the L-1011. Thanks for watching!

Great airplane spotting.
Look up LGB viewing area on Google Maps. It's in a parking lot behind DeVry.
What a treat Jeff,Thanks! See you next time.
Thanks always.

Thanks for sharing those memories. This was an Air Canada plane to begin with so it is possible. Thank you for watching!

I found this plane one time on flight radar 24
I love that app.
Love that one is still.flying!
I wonder how they get parts & maint for it?
That's a good question. Lockheed must have something in house. But I don't know. Thanks for watching!

Didn’t think the runway was long enough for
L1011
10,000 ft runway at Long Beach. The plane isn't carrying anything I believe.

I BET I WORKED ( Avionics/ Elect, systems on that L1011, what a fantastic air ship, much better than a DC10

Late 10 times out of 11. The plane that nearly bankrupted Lockheed.

I have a 1/30 scale Lockheed L-1011 Tristar model up on TH-cam
