Very disheartening to see this, I am from Pune, and I used to believe that drought is only a Marathwada problem as it rains heavily in western Maharashtra, but seeing that old lady drinking that water with foul smell is just disheartening, thanks a ton from the bottom of my heart for bringing this suffering of our people so that everyone can see the misgovernance in this State.

The western talukas of Wai Mahableshwar Patan and even Satara city where I live in receives some of the highest rainfall counts in Maharashtra but eastern talukas esp Man and Khatav are one of the most arid regions and receive very little to no rainfall.. But these are one of the most resilient people as inspite of drought the suc**** rates is almost none to very little in this region

I'm from Maharashtra a small village in district Beed, taluka - Ambajogai, village -Makegaon We've been experiencing sevier drought in summers, Even we didn't had water to drink and to fulfill our daily needs. Government tried what they tried I don't know 😞, the borewells, wells and all other water sources were dried. Just to fulfill our daily water needs we had to buy water with very high cost. Our cattles even didn't has water to drink. We had to roam so long in search of water. Relatively monsoon and winter season we have good amount of water but summer is just horrible. We have a handpump in front of my home, Literally 100s of people used to wait there in harsh sun, and upon that it didn't even had enough water. I begg to government to improve the system to just fulfill our first need -WATER during summers.😢😢😢

Right time to release this. I told my father to take sugarcane yeild this year because we had excessive rain. But i think i need to rethink. My sincere request to leadership is to make drip irrigation more affordable and mandatory for most of the crops. Thank you newslaundry for reminding me my priorities.

I am from Bhiwandi a city not too far from Mumbai and in recent days even we have been facing water-related problems, the water from our taps went foul so much so that when one would fill up their bucket you wouldn't be able to see the bottom of it plus as the lady said it use to smell like a gutter. Till today, we are facing the issues; though the quality has improved, the water pressure remains low. Plus we had to change our pipeline and water pump because of the amount of impurities that got stuck in it. Thank you, @newslaundry, for covering the issues that matter.

Maharashtra is a large state with many districts that have abundant water resources and sufficient rainfall each year, which supports thriving agricultural production. However, the ongoing drought is significantly impacting water availability for both daily use and farming activities.
Satara district is one of huge contrasts as the western talukas of Mahableshwar wai and Patan and even Satara city where I live in receives some of the highest rainfall in Maharashtra but the eastern district like Man and Khatav are one of the most arid.. but these are one of the most resilient people as inspite of the drought the Suci** rates are very low here compared to Marathwada and Vidharbha..
Article 21 in our constitution as mentioned fundamental right "RIGHT TO LIFE ". that article has mention details about quality life that all citizens of india should get. If gov cant be sp responsible then Stop giving pension to MLAs and MPs . Use people tax collection on productive things. Here people are facing deadly crisis and gov are giving our valuable taxes to MLA and MP who are just irresponsible . Save that for poor people in India. Here is only one example we have seen through video. There are 1000s of villages facing same crisis and MP and MLA are getting all royal treatments. What common people should do . We all should be responsible and should interrogate about our taxation use.
The average Indian and his politician are just not capable enough to deal with this. We need technocrats, scientists and selfless leaders from the younger generation to implement such things.
A powerful testament to the gross neglect of Maharashtra politicians in solving the mist basic needs of the people. Their shenanigans to stay in power are nauseous given that they have no desire to work for the people. The people would do well toe realise this reality and boycott politicians. Don’t vote. Simple, divert all sewage water to agriculture barren lands , water will recover and sewage water contains good amount of natural fertilizer. For example , mumbais sewage water is best for maharshtra agriculture, put big pipelines divert in dry areas , instead of dumping sewage in the sea
Traditionally an area as arid as central Maharashtra should have a relatively low population density. If you live off nature, you must respect the boundaries. The other solution would be to invest in technologies that have been employed in Israel which has a similarly arid landscape. We must ask them for help and new entrepreneurs could look upto this as a great opportunity
Just travel further north to Pune city and people wash their driveways and even road infront of their gates with water as mahanagar palika provide it for free.
To those people saying BJP's biggest success in these 10 years was water availability in the remotest area of India should watch this. BJP can't do it's job 100% even in it's ruling state, situations are unimaginable in states not ruled by the BJP
Satara receives 762mm of annual rainfall similar to Pune ...One of the issues is water is not harvested or stored ....why not get Paani foundation institution for eg to comment on Satara as well for solutions ... ..
