Got turned on to you from a fellow Aliner. He owns the newer A frame, while I own an Aliner Alite! I'm a new owner to a well used trailer. Luckily having a good knowledge of electric, carpentry and plumbing helps when owning one of these. The tips you give are effective with any Aliner! Thank you!
as new RVers whose intention is to primarily boondock, we are most appreciative of your experiments and innovations! And in awe of your photography. Thank you.
Hi. A small container of Plasti Dip would be an alternative for the bungee cord tips. Plasti Dip is also good to put on tools to,protect your hands from abrasion..
On third time watching this video, I am really impressed with your creative abilities! If I ever do get an Aliner I intend on implementing all of your suggestions!
I bought a 2015 Aliner classic, and totally love it. They have made improvements over the years, so some of your excellent tips are not needed. Mine has never leaked; its kind of fun being inside and snug during a downpour. I saw a question on air conditioner - mine works very well to cut mid-day heat. But hanging off the side is disadvantage. I have had MANY people see mine and state they wish they had a Aliner instead of cheaper copies. Quality is generally very good, except for some flimsy stapled cabinet parts, which were easily reinforced. Thanks for the videos!
I'm sure I won't think of everything but here are a few. By the way, my Aliner Classic has everything: hot & cold water, electric demand pump, heater, air conditioner, microwave, cassette toilet, off-road package, portable stove (gas connection inside & out) and 3-way refrigerator - since stove is portable I have good counter space and do not need to remove the sink. Even when I don't use the water system, the sink is still handy for me. - the ceiling vents (manual & fantastic fan) have very robust cams to close the lid, and a separate solid latch to hold closed. No need for bungees outside. - the factory made the small storage compartment at the front - our bed is at the rear, which is handy to the thermostat location. - the shower bar across the camper is critical. But I found the extendable ones a but too flimsy. So I bought rigid electrical conduit and ¾ sch 40 PVC pipe. The white PVC fits over the conduit and I cut to length to exactly fit between the triangular walls. This is very strong. - we have very large lexan bubble windows on both roof sections. These hugely increase interior space near the ends of the trailer. I wonder if there is a retrofit possible. - the two ceiling LED lights and the floor entry LED light are way too bright. We use "post-it" sticky notes to cut down the light. Again, thanks for your videos!
Thanks Chet, glad they made improvements. Do the vents lock at the windward corners? Are they still using the sliding rail design to open and close? Thanks, SP
Going to pick up my first Aliner this weekend, a used model but "new" to me. Watched both your vids on 10 easy mods, very helpful. Will be watching the others too as there seems to be much info to gain from your experience and travels. Thanks bud!
That's wonderful. I was convinced instead of getting a used class b I'd get an A liner. Found out it's too heavy for my older tow vehicle which is paid off. So disappointed. Enjoy yours!
I have to say you are just a wealth of good idea's. Every one of them are very useful. Keep up the good work. That A Liner looks like a pretty smart idea.
Slim, I have a self adhesive plastic tab with a metal ring attached on the other side of the tab. It is for placing on the back of your cell phone. While holding your phone you can slip a finger through for phone stability while tapping in numbers on your phone and conversing. I have had it on my phone for about a year without fail, the self adhesive glue has held well. I had forgotten where I got it. Yesterday I was in dollar tree and saw a bunch of them near the checkout. I camp in my Prius so bought several the same color as my interior. I plan to use them for holding up cord across the span for curtains or other places I need a ring to hold a light for instance. I have watched as many of your videos as I can for low cost great ideas on your Aliner. I thought it would be nice to give you a tip in exchange.
Keep it up Slim and your going to have allot more subscribers. You and Adventure Van Man are my favorites in the nomad community. I use the pool noodles in the garage for protecting the wall from the car doors.
I bake pizza on my campstove with a non-stick T-fal pan that has a lid. I cook it over really low heat with the lid on to get it hot and melt the cheese, then I take the lid off and turn the flame up to crisp the bottom. It doesn't stick like the pizza stones, but is the same idea.
Great low cost remedies! I have watched all of your videos and decided that I needed to buy one. After sleeping on that thought for a few nights, I finally came to my senses and realized that it was just wishful thinking and realistically I can't do that since I appear to be in early onset of losing my mind and already am beginning to lose my balance. I seem to be able to drive OK but there are a lot of stupid drivers out there!
Awesome.... oh and 2 cents worth, ... you can heat pizza in your cast iron pan with one tile and a drop of cooking oil on it, cover with a lid. Cast iron skillets make a Dutch oven. 😉
I really like your videos; they are very inspiring. I would love to live a nomadic lifestyle but I am far too into gardening, crafting and I have a lot of pets. I have an 18' Jayco and love to do fun things to it. Velcro strips are my best friend. I love to camp alone, but now that winter is here in Alberta, camping season won't be for a while. I also go fishing alone and really enjoy it.
Getting ready to purchase a Flagstaff High Side A frame, your channel has inspired me and I will be exploring some of the mods you suggest! Awesome channel and content!
Nice idea for the thermostat, I 'm having the same issue except mine is brand new and never shuts off. It's lowest setting is 50, I had it on that and had to manually shut the heater down when it hit 81! (F of course)
Thanks! I think this thermostat can have more uses than just an Aliner, so I expect to do a short video on the entire setup. It can also turn on fans when it's hot!
You have quite an engineering mind with great ideas and use of materials. I loved your use of the shims for the floor of the shower in a previous video. You should be designing/engineering rvs. In fact Aliner should use your shower under the dinette idea.
Hi, I notice part of this video was shot during your Needles Overlook trip. Next time your down along 191 you should check out some of the cool stuff and camp spots on the road (211) out to the Needles district. I enjoy your content weekly and your production values are sweet. Keep up the good work.
As a central heating plumber l really like the frost-stat idea mate - though ow come you don't set it at the usual 4 Degrees Celcius - as that is the temperature when water is most dense.
Slim, I am also interested in how your Aliner is doing down in the desert. We will be heading that way this Fall and I have heard several cautions about high wind.
No issues. I use the shower curtain rod shown in the first top 10 video to brace the top of the trailer walls. Also use the vent tie-downs in the video. It's at: th-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=N2rtgka3CR0. Aim the trailer into the wind if you can. thanks!
New to your channel and loving it..binge watching since last night. Can you or have you shown how You live without a water tank? I know you pulled yours out to create more storage. Can you show or talk about how you conserve water? Thank you. Loving the easy hacks too...Dollar Tree is the bomb...
you need a tray for pizza. cheese its going off like that. if you stay long time in same place you can build old style pizza oven from mud and broken glass pieces, cooking stone...so you can use wood fire, very healthy cooking. or use a portable oven with $130 to put near the trailer. you need silicone trims for your door. you need 5m leds for 5v plug, wich can make light in all caravan
I am sorry about your damage, but I am glad you are doing a repair video. This summer, I am travelling from Ontario Canada to the Yukon, so seeing the repair tips will help, I am sure.
Like all your ideas :). Just bought an 1999 Aliner that already has some mods incl. solar panels and a lithium battery. I am contemplating the idea of setting up an outdoor shower and connecting it to the existing electric water pump which can be switched over with the click of a button. Any ideas?
you need trailer alternator pluged with the wheels transmition or cheap wind turbines and charging controller to charge some batteries for full electricity, enough to start a heater, kettle, tv, computer, or even to make a business with coffee, drinks everywhere you will travel. add 4 folding seat with 2 folding tables to enoy the summer with few friends. use some cheap vinyl and a hair dryer to decorate and protect your trailer from getting old from water or bad wheather conditions, before you add the vinyl stick some alluminium insulation outside on your camper, to prolong your trailer life with 20 years more. make a fan 12v to prevent the humidity in your camper when cooking, to suck the water trough the window. for that you can use a ducting square with fan on top of the oven and bring the hose out the window when you want to cook.
I use the show and toilet I have in the Aliner. Have a look at my earlier videos, lots of DIY ideas for A-frames and other trailers: th-cam.com/channels/5LjexFk9wZEnFsXA3TOx-g.htmlvideos Thanks! SP
You make really good videos! Enjoyed the one from Organ Pipe Cactus! Was wondering if, in addition to enlarging the pizza stones, if preheating them a little would help?
Hi Bex, Thanks for the interest. My initial tests were that one stone burned the bottom before I cooked the top, so I added another. But you could have a good point. The second one it always better, and it's ready before I can finish the first one!
Thanks for sharing your ideas on tuning up the Aliner. I am quite interested in your thermostat upgrade. Did you make the housing ? At Amazon, I found the circuit board and temp sensor but without a cover.
Yes I made the housing and the buttons. Am planning a DIY video but have changed the design slightly to make it more versatile. Need to find one more part and them will complete the new video.
Awesome videos!! Got an aliner myself and your tips are very helpful. Any helpful ideas or tips on keeping your A frame camper from collapsing on really windy days? ( I get nervous when I camp on really windy days)
Hi Sebastian, As you can see at 6:02 on this video I've have some bouts with wind but never has the trailer collapsed. Has this actually happened to someone? I use the shower rod as a brace in strong winds but have never had the wall collapse. Point the front into the wind and you should be fine.
Slim Potatohead, there has been like 2 cases which I have read in forums but then again they were dealing with 50 - 60mph wind gust that caught them off guard... yes I saw that I will definitely use it on my next camper trip thank you!
Slim, I am looking at a newer A-liner. Would you say with time the company has done a good job to eliminate the issues you have covered in the past? Im looking at the off road classic for a bit of clearance but a bit more room than the ranger and scout.
I see later models from other campers, but have not had any involvement with the company itself so am not sure what all the improvements are. If it were me I'd look at all the options, including Rockwood and Chalet for a fair comparison. Thanks! SP
Hi Jess, I will have one in the next few weeks. I just did some mods to my solar panels and hope to upgrade a battery as well. But first I need some sun! Thanks
Regarding your furnace, do you find the furnace fan draws much power? I assume it has to be working or the furnace will overheat. Do you charge your batter with solar, or perhaps a generator? Thanks - I'm enjoying your A-liner videos.
Hi Z, That's a good question. Not sure how much electricity the fan uses but will look into it. Cooler the biggest pig on energy in my trailer. In warm climates batteries are charged exclusively with solar unless I get a wet cloudy spell. I may seek an RV park for a day to charge up. Can usually last several days on stored energy without direct sunlight by using ice instead of the cooler. Don't like gas generators at all. Thanks!
Hey Z, My furnace uses 40.8 watts, which is a lot higher than I expected. My cooler is 60 watts, so that furnace is second big power consumer. Will have to check if there are more efficient (and less noisy) systems out there. Thanks for the Head's Up!
If the concern is losing your trailer, all trailers can be stolen! If concerned, camp with others. Knowing your neighbors is the best insurance policy! SP
Would love to find a couple of those camping chairs(the ones with table on one side and pockets on other) you use in your videos. Do they have a brand name and maybe where to find them?
Hi. Can you tell me what method you use to lash-down your battery when traveling? Do you ever feel the need to remove it when you'll be away from the camper just in case? The simple strap that came with our '09 just doesn't look like its enough to hold it in place on a long trip. Thanks!
Hi Waterdog456, Thanks for your question. I do strap my battery box on the tongue to a snug fitting frame I made from angle iron. It hasn't come loose during travel but could use an extra rubber bungee. Not too worried about theft but I do have a second one secured inside the trailer as well. Hope this helps!
Thanks,Slim! One more quick question if I could....our battery is supposed to be self-charging.Its a brand new deep-cell marine battery. Can you ,in 500 words or less, please tell us HOW this is supposed to work? Have you found that it DOES keep the charge up? Thanks in advance.
You’re a frigging genius. You’re the Aliner MacGyver.
Slim, you are the A-Liner king! Many or your tips apply to us travel trailer owners as well. Thank you.
I write down so many ideas that you pass along, my own little notebook. Thanks for all of your ideas!
Thank you.
Thanks for the trailer tricks to improve things cheaply.Hoping next spring I will be a HAPPY Camper....as it will be our first.
The pool noodles work great...thanks so much Slim!
Tom Hamp
You are incredibly resourceful Slim! Regrettably, I'm not, so thank you for these great ideas!
Love all your aliner hacks! Thank you!
Aliner needs you. They would create much better campers that’s for sure.
Thank you for your tips! I think the Aliner might be just what I'm looking for.
Hi. A small container of Plasti Dip would be an alternative for the bungee cord tips. Plasti Dip is also good to put on tools to,protect your hands from abrasion..
I was thinking that too.
Love it. Taking notes. Ill be getting my A liner in 21 months. Storing your tips. Thanks
On third time watching this video, I am really impressed with your creative abilities! If I ever do get an Aliner I intend on implementing all of your suggestions!

Hey goodgollyjosh, Good to hear you scored a used Aliner, and glad you found my ideas useful. I'm heading for the woods too. Enjoy and Happy Camping!
That's wonderful. I was convinced instead of getting a used class b I'd get an A liner. Found out it's too heavy for my older tow vehicle which is paid off. So disappointed. Enjoy yours!

just got a old a liner in Oz land. Not a happy woman, but love your videos. Will try and do the water proofing.
Very creative tips Slim. Thank you. Calgary is warming up.
Thermostat is brilliant Slim. I want to learn that build and wiring. Thanks!
Hi Slim, I like the videos and the great photography. I also try to leave no trace. Keep up the good work.
Another great group of ideas!
Helpful ideas, Slim. Casita Travel Trailer owner, but a lot of your ideas will be great even for other travel trailer owners
Keep it up Slim and your going to have allot more subscribers. You and Adventure Van Man are my favorites in the nomad community. I use the pool noodles in the garage for protecting the wall from the car doors.

Sorry to hear that Herb. Maybe you'll find someone with a wanderlust willing to help with the driving. Stupid drivers, yeah I see them a lot too!
Best Aliner videos I’ve seen!
Like your door solution Ihave the same draft and noise issues in our class C , its the noise and chatter of the door being sucked out while driving
Those are great ideas. You can add a few magnetic lights that stick to anyplace on your roof. Those places can be really dark.
Really enjoyed the video. Thank you!
A lot of your ideas, I can use in my home.
Peace
I subscribed mostly because I like your nickname, and I love the noodle hack

I just found your videos. Very well put and great information. Keep it up.
I enjoy your video on your Aliner
Slim, I am also interested in how your Aliner is doing down in the desert. We will be heading that way this Fall and I have heard several cautions about high wind.
No issues. I use the shower curtain rod shown in the first top 10 video to brace the top of the trailer walls. Also use the vent tie-downs in the video. It's at: th-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=N2rtgka3CR0. Aim the trailer into the wind if you can. thanks!

I use jugs now which are easier to fill and can distibute weight load better on trailer. Only use one gallon to shower these days. Thanks! SP
I have a very old Aliner that has a corner leak. Maybe I can fix it now. Thanks
Another great video !
you need a tray for pizza. cheese its going off like that. if you stay long time in same place you can build old style pizza oven from mud and broken glass pieces, cooking stone...so you can use wood fire, very healthy cooking. or use a portable oven with $130 to put near the trailer. you need silicone trims for your door. you need 5m leds for 5v plug, wich can make light in all caravan
If so where we you direct the stove pipe not thru the roof. Maybe the side with a small pipe and a stainless steel. Fitting so it could be removable.
Another great video. Can you do one on how you made the thermostat and how to use the rivets?
Hi Rev, both in the works. My last trip did a lot of damage, so there will be some repair videos as well.
I am sorry about your damage, but I am glad you are doing a repair video. This summer, I am travelling from Ontario Canada to the Yukon, so seeing the repair tips will help, I am sure.
Careful! Transporting firewood moves forest distring insects!!!
Like all your ideas :). Just bought an 1999 Aliner that already has some mods incl. solar panels and a lithium battery. I am contemplating the idea of setting up an outdoor shower and connecting it to the existing electric water pump which can be switched over with the click of a button. Any ideas?
Why not add an indoor shower instead? th-cam.com/video/JHrflWYpMxQ/w-d-xo.html
I like the pizza idea but how did you put hole on bowl?
I enjoy watching your videos happy Turkey day
you need trailer alternator pluged with the wheels transmition or cheap wind turbines and charging controller to charge some batteries for full electricity, enough to start a heater, kettle, tv, computer, or even to make a business with coffee, drinks everywhere you will travel. add 4 folding seat with 2 folding tables to enoy the summer with few friends. use some cheap vinyl and a hair dryer to decorate and protect your trailer from getting old from water or bad wheather conditions, before you add the vinyl stick some alluminium insulation outside on your camper, to prolong your trailer life with 20 years more. make a fan 12v to prevent the humidity in your camper when cooking, to suck the water trough the window. for that you can use a ducting square with fan on top of the oven and bring the hose out the window when you want to cook.
Would really love to own a Aliner Alite, but they are not available in the UK.
Love your videos!
Love the 10 more ! What do you do for socialization ?
Hi Pamela, Thanks! Meeting other travelers over a fold-up chair and a beer is one of the best parts of camping. Love the stories!
Slim, what is that yellow box mounted at the bottom of your solar panels?? Looks handy, link on item?
Aliner !!! how do you shower? use bathroom?
I use the show and toilet I have in the Aliner. Have a look at my earlier videos, lots of DIY ideas for A-frames and other trailers: th-cam.com/channels/5LjexFk9wZEnFsXA3TOx-g.htmlvideos
Thanks! SP
Amazing
When you attached the paper towel holder, holder, what size/length rivets or screws did you use?
Sorry, that was 5 years ago and I no longer have that trailer. Assuming 1/4" wall board, try a 3/8" length 3/16" aluminum rivet. Thanks! SP
Will the pool noodle help with condensation along the seams as well?
Yes. However rubber foam pipe insulation works even better. I used pool noodles for the big gaps and pipe insulation for the smaller ones. Thanks! SP
You make really good videos! Enjoyed the one from Organ Pipe Cactus! Was wondering if, in addition to enlarging the pizza stones, if preheating them a little would help?

Slim have you ever TRYED a wood burning heater in your aliner
Given the chance, Would you buy another a liner or some other trailer?
Isn't the burnt edge of a pizza the best part?
Do miss your Abner? We are thinking about purchasing a small camper like an A.frame, any thoughts or suggestions?
Buy new or nearly new if you can. Older models can have issues over time. Make sure frame is rock solid. Thanks! SP
Thanks for sharing your ideas on tuning up the Aliner. I am quite interested in your thermostat upgrade. Did you make the housing ? At Amazon, I found the circuit board and temp sensor but without a cover.

Hi Brian, The thermostat video is here: th-cam.com/video/P8f2hymIy9Y/w-d-xo.html Thanks!
Did you take the original lock off?
How did you saw it?
Can you do a video on power supply .. batteries and how much solar you need also how much a charge last 😗
Hi Jess, I will have one in the next few weeks. I just did some mods to my solar panels and hope to upgrade a battery as well. But first I need some sun! Thanks
Season that piza stone never use soap and parchment paper works great remove after cooking 2 min. Carry on cooking
I know a wood burner in a ALINER would have to be very small but could it work? I am just thinking CRASY but would it work?
Regarding your furnace, do you find the furnace fan draws much power? I assume it has to be working or the furnace will overheat. Do you charge your batter with solar, or perhaps a generator? Thanks - I'm enjoying your A-liner videos.

After watching and reading all these damage stories I've decided to rent a trailer when the urge gets me.
That kinda looked like ink pen ends please explain about this box you made or purched
Would love to find a couple of those camping chairs(the ones with table on one side and pockets on other) you use in your videos. Do they have a brand name and maybe where to find them?
Hi Kelly, I never thought sometime might like the chair! It is a Picnic Time Sports chair. Here's an Amazon Link: amzn.to/2z5TzRZ Thanks!
Harbor Freight is where we got ours... $ 29.00 I think
It does.Every little bit of info, tips or advice is always appreciated. Happy Trails!
