Hi Slim I'm George , I'm 73 and disabled. My wife and I love to watch your travels. We aren't able to travel so We enjoy your travels. Especially your fixing up your Out Back trailer . God bless keep up the great video's.
Slim, I so enjoy your ingenuity and the fun you have at life. Here is a tip to stop rust permanitely (you may need to remove old paint first.) This is the stuff PDR 15 Rust Preventative Coating. 1 quart. can be found on Amazon. A note: can be applied w a paintbrush, be sure to use saran wrap under the lid otherwise it will be impossible to open it again! ✌
For the stone guard on the front of the trailer, you could have tried Flex Seal instead of the rubber mat. On the yellow part of the frame try using vinegar and then the rust converter and spray that with Flex Seal after it has time to dry. For putting up posters try rubber cement. Paint the edges of the roof to see if it wears.
TH-cam randomly recommended me one of your videos, so I've been binge watching them. This is one of the most informative videos I've seen in quite awhile, in general. Mainly due to how you mention each topic, show (and link) which video it came from, and then how it held up. Very well done, charismatic, nice personality and great editing.
Just found your series of videos about the A-liner. I'm just getting into camping and trying to make up my mind on what camper to buy. Thank you for taking the time to upload these videos. God bless you.
To attach posters, get some Scotch Reusable Mounting Putty. It is white, gummy, and holds a poster in place until you are ready to pull it down and use the putty again. Walmart, Target, Amazon. Enjoying your videos. Thank you!
How can any of his videos have dislikes? He's such a nice guy and quite the smart inventor as well!! I would love to be his camping neighbor! Hes a genius!! Happy Trails to you Slim!! ~~~~~One of your many Florida fans!! PS....Come to FL!!!
Mr Potatohead. I have a 2019 Aliner Scout Lite. The factory must watch your videos. My Aliner came from the factory with the nylon side bearings installed. The Aliners built today are quite high quality and don't suffer from the older problems,
Always fun to watch..our first summer with a 2006 aliner, we had a blast, I'm always doing upgrades on it, your videos were a good starting point. Merci
Hey, thanks! It's refreshing to see someone give "the rest of the story." Your videos are really helpful, and I like your light-hearted, relaxed approach.
good work mate on showing what worked and what didn't. I know I get some rather 'constructive' feedback on my projects that I share. I find it is often from people who have not actually tried it for themselves. Like you, I much prefer to test out a theory for myself and find out in the field it it turns out ok. Whilst I don't expect you to admit it publicly, it must be nice to be able to go back and say 'i told you so ' :)
Slim i just love your creativity. My wife and i are contemplating a used aliner and we watch your videos to learn about challenges and solutions. We also enjoy yor adventures.
I bet everyone wishes they had you for their neighbor!! You are smart, creative and such a nice guy!!! Love your videos!! Hope to cross paths on the road one day! If you are even down in FL you have a friend!!
Hey Slim! Enjoying your videos. We bought a used A-frame camper last year and have been really enjoying both camping with it, and modifying it to suit us. (A Chalet Aurora). We also have a boat that gets put in and out of salt water, so frame rust is a constant issue. I finally attacked it with a wire attachment on an angle grinder, and then used spray rustolium paint. Just a little touch up every year or two seems to keep the rust at bay. Thanks for all your unique ideas!
I think the solution for your enamel paint on your hitch would probably be some roll on bed liner she protected from the elements as well from chipping off from rocks which you'd probably put over top of your rubbing liner as well that is now cracking to seal it watertight as a while as added protection.
Thats what I did to the whole frame of a travel trailer I had some years back. Removed as much rust as I could get to, primed it the applied the bed liner using a roller and brush. no issues after 5 yrs of use.
Things fall apart; the glue cannot hold. ;> Very creative upgrades. Thanks for the update. 'Love the surprise ending which looks like an inside shot before you fold everything up as you're in the midst of it and drive away! Haha
Your idea using rubber on the outside is excellent ...maybe the manufacturer should take note of what you do to prevent damage and for them to include it on newer models . ...your ideas are brilliant ....well done 😊
Your evaluation after some time has passed is more valuable than the original video of each project. Things like the glue gun sure seemed reasonable at the time, but who could guess that it would fail? Glad to hear that Command Strips work for you. The only place that they let me down was on the overhead. Entertaining video!
I wonder if you could add wider, longer to the ground mud flaps to stop the rocks before they hit your frame. Maybe install a skirt along the bumper that hangs down across the entire back of the vehicle. I am similar to you. I try something and if it doesn't work I try again. No drama, no regrets just work it out til you get what you want. Great channel.
You could have a fabrication shop make a custom-fit shield that could slide over the front of the hitch area (between the jack and the propane tanks, and that could also double up for storage. If that's where the battery goes have them make a custom cover that is basically a box, that could bolt underneath into the A-frame of the hitch. Or better yet, just have someone fabricate a custom box that goes over the tank and hitch crank (ie. basically a box that can clamp or bolt to the A-frame portion. This would make it nice and hide everything, AND protect that part of the hitch and the tank, battery, etc. You could even integrate storage into such a thing. It may not be cheap (maybe $500-1000) but it would be a nice addition to the trailer, with a purpose).
Good to see how the repairs have held up. The only thing I would like to have seen on the toggle latch is a much larger doubler plate to mount the catch.
Great updates. Love that desk design. tip: invest in some proper machine lubricant for the roof bearings etc.. One bottle of molyslip or bicycle chain lube should last years on your setup.
I like your videos and I like how you do things like the wood stove I just started watching your videos the night before and you do an excellent job on everything that you do
Instead of painting with regular paint to prevent rust, maybe you can use the rubber-paint, which is for truck beds. It is much thicker, and the rubber texture will fend off rock chips better. But it only comes in black and maybe dark grey color. Not sure if you could spray-paint it with a color of your choice after it is dry. Thanks for all the great videos!
Thank you! I always enJOY your videos and this one is no exception. I'm happy to get updates and any modifications...not certain how much I'll use the info but you do a great job of teaching us how to think differently...thanks again! Journey mercies.
For the trailer tongue. Sand it down primer it. Get texture paint. It works on a truck I used to drive. The paint will protect . So there's no rock chipping.
For the rust and chip prevention look into a product called por15 for a coat directly on the metal. Then you must cover that with a tuff paint or epoxy type paint. I would then cover that with under coat which is a little like lite truck bed liner. Bed liner is heavy.
Coming from a life long snowmobiler the only thing you can do to prevent rust on your steel trailer is to buy and aluminum one. I’ve put 4 coats of paint on my previous steel trailers and the rock chips and salt combination will always cause rust.
Slim, At first I recommended POR15 for your frame. Someone in your comments recommended LineX or Rhinoliner (Berliner). This is a VERY GOOD idea, and a company called ‘Herculiner’ makes a DIY kit. Take care
I don't own an A liner, but find your videos applicable to my rig and future ideas for a possible pop up camper I want to build. I second the bed liner idea for the frame and possibly plasti dip, but I think what you did worked pretty well. Maybe just repeat again.
And black! That construction yellow color doesn't look right without a Caterpillar label. BTW, Project Farm did a review of several brands of truck bed liner, worth watching as some are markedly better than others for specific uses.
Old comment, but I'd be careful with thick hard coatings like that... Unless you get it on when the metal is brand new you'll still have rust occouring underneath and it can make things worse over time. Look up the damage that rubberized undercoating does to frames over time... it seems like a good idea, but once that rust continues underneath the coating just holds in the moisture and lets the rust go crazy. Maybe truck bed liners breathe and don't let this happen, but I figured I'd give a warning.
Thanks for advancing the frontier of "Aliner technology" or "Aliner materials science" for all of us who are driven to improve our Aliners! I was curious how the door vent and roof peak condensation solutions have done over time in driving rain etc?
great video .Have you ever thought about converting a A liner same size cargo trailer . with your inventive skills I would think you would have a blast..really enjoy how you tell a story in the videos ... great job , top notch
On your rock protection mat if you oriented it vertically would the ribbing collect less dirt? Love the pop out desk! Would you consider a slide out drink holder? Built in USB outlets?
Another great video, keep up the great work. As to the frame rust and chips, I would look into that stuff they spray on truck beds. You can spray it or paint it on, it's tuff. I know guys here in New Mexico who covered their entire Jeeps it trucks with it. After years of use, it still looks brand new.
@@SlimPotatohead I think they mean raptoliner or raptorliner? I plan on sanding off the rust trim around the top of my van where the rain tends to sit n causes rust..want to sand it bondo rustoleum n spray with the raptoliner..lasts forever..
The guy in Dallas Texas did his entire van in it. Don’t remember his name but I am confident that if Slim googles raptor liner he will be able to watch the video.
Hes not lying...command strips are awesome. My PS4 is currently stuck on my wall under my tv mount. Took off the rubber bottom parts, command strip in every corner and 2 in the middle. Pressed hard and months later it's still there.
Any updates on ur wind generator in the pipeline? Always enjoy ur videos, keep them coming. Maybe c u in Australia sometime? You will never never know, if you never never go. Cheers
You should use synthetic oil on those nylon bearings, vaseline and other petroleum based oils can eat away at some plastics. Good luck and keep the vids coming.

Brilliant Slim, I can hardly wait for your wood stove install. Classiest Aliner on TH-cam by far....
Awesome! Always a good day when a new Slim video comes out!
Dittos Tim! I watched his videos over again because I enjoy more because I missed some things.

If I buy an Aliner, I'm going to do all the things to my new Aline that you did to your Aliner, prevention is worth everything! Thanks@ Safe travels
Thank you for the update regarding your Aliner upgrades! Quite interesting and no doubt useful for some viewers.
nothing is ever perfect, but most of your ideas work very well. congrats to you, sir.

Yes.. i love the updates to his aframe camper... nice!

You make great videos.
Their updating the A-Liners and adding some of your ideas thanks for sharing
I'd like to see an update on the beautiful camp heater you built. You were going to test it further. Thanks.

What’s that Red Green quote about being handy? Love your videos Slim. Looking forward to more, even if I don’t plan to ever have an Aliner.
Nylon bearings, awesome find.
Vinegar and a wire brush removes rust. Might have to soak area (with a rag)depending depth of rust.
awesome video and i need to find the crapapple wine video lol
