- This run isn't perfect by any means, but it's a good start. Overall I think I could save about 10 minutes off this in another run if I have less mistakes and don't miss any enemies.

Absolutely. The more I watch this run back the more improvements I can see. Even at the time I played this, I felt like an easy 10-15 minutes could have come off. There's no telling what's possible now. I'll definitely get back into 100% around when the expansion comes out.

I just bought this game a few weeks ago on PS4 AND I AM LOVING THIS GAME! It is bringing me back to the days of my first ever shooter game DUKE NUKEM 64! I've always been a console pleb.... But this game is amazing, i havent even beaten it yet but I am getting much better at it and i wanna try to speedrun this game at somepoint.

I plan to get back into speedrunning this game in the near future. There's still quite a bit of time I can save in this category, and there are some new ideas that could make it a little faster, too. Right now I'm taking a short break from doing speedrun attempts, but I'm still around in the community and I'm still looking for new optimizations.

Amazing video! Just started this game and did a blind run on easy to get to grips with it. Q. For the T-Shirt ach, can you do it on any difficulty, so long as you finish with 100%? Thanks man and keep up the great vids 😀
I believe that's the case, yes. I don't know for sure but some people I've seen online say they've gotten the achievement even when playing on easy.
@@FitterSpace Thanks for the reply. Do you need to kill all the enemies on the final boss? On my first run I ran circles lol until each wave was eliminated. Then I proceeded to pump grenades into the boss. Doing it your way can you ignore the enemies and kill them afterwards? Sorry for the noob question.
@@oxygengraphafonadelaverberator If you're playing on the easier difficulties, all the enemies in the last level will get blown up when you kill Heskel no matter what. If you're playing on a higher difficulty, some of the heavier enemies will still be around so you need to take them out first. You can also make a save point right before you kill Heskel, that way you could load it and go back if you don't kill everybody for some reason. That won't mess up the achievement as far as I know.

Thanks! I do occasionally, but most of the time I don't have to. I still get shot by them every now and then because I'm not paying enough attention to what all the enemies are doing. When it comes to clearing out a room, I usually go for the grenadiers first, then the greater cultists (crossbowmen), then shotgunners, and then the normal cultists (yellow enemies). Spiders are last because they tend to group up near me after a short time. So the greater cultists are usually dead before it becomes a big issue.

I'm watching this run, again, and I can't help but ask. Ever thought about beating the Terror Dome by going through the phases?
I've done that casually plenty of times. It's really fun, especially on Maximum Fury. It's probably the hardest part of the game, right up there with the fight at the end of Grand Slam. It's just that in a speedrun setting, it's faster to kill Heskel as soon as possible.

How do you have the mentality to play the hardest mode?
It mostly comes down to practice. For a long time, I couldn't beat this game on Maximum Fury, but I just kept trying until I could. I also memorized where all the enemies are, so that makes it a lot easier. Speedrunning a hard category like this is more about planning than execution, in my opinion.
How do you shoot so fast with the shotgun at 2:17?
That’s a trick called pump cancelling. It goes like this: after you shoot, hit R to reload. Reloading will let you skip the pumping animation. Then you hit Q to quick swap to the electrifryer. This will cancel the reload animation because you’re switching to another weapon. Then you can click again to cancel the weapon switch. So if you can do those inputs in less time than the pumping animation takes, you can rapid fire the shotgun as much as you want. In short, the inputs go like this: Click -> R -> Q -> click. Once you do those inputs, you can click another time to shoot again. Rinse and repeat. It also works with the grenade launcher.

EDIT: Is auto aim off?
No, auto-aim is enabled in this run. It actually makes close-up gunfights a little more annoying because bullets often pull toward enemies' chests, even if I'm aiming at their head. But it makes distant enemies way easier to kill, so I leave it on.

@@Hankola Thanks! It's actually not too bad with auto-aim off. One time I did the first 30 or 40 minutes of this run without knowing I had it off. I don't think it makes much of a difference in a speedrun, since you'll know where all the enemies are anyway. It just makes a few distant encounters a little easier.

What's that +??? at the end debrief?
That refers to the twin peaks easter egg in z3a2. It's for the "The owls are not what they seem" Achievement. it's not actually required for 100% speedruns since it was put on the results screen as a reminder that it's been completed at least once. In other words, once you go there, that +??? text will be on the results screen in all future 100% playthroughs. One of the developers added that as a feature to let non-Steam players know they did it right.

Out of curiosity, did you find all secrets by yourself or looked it up?
I feel partially ashamed to look up secrets in your video, but only could find 50% (although, in my defense, I didn't put my mind to it that much)
@@ruffusgoodman4137 On my third playthrough, I think I found about 60% of the secrets on my own, after several hours of searching in each zone. Some of the secrets in this game are crazy, and I'm confident I would have never found them. I can't wait to play through the upcoming expansion and look for secrets there. It'll be fun! I'll be interested to see if speedrunning the base game 100% will increase my chances of finding all the new secrets on my own.

Are you and the ion fury Speedrun community looking for new strats for this? Is that why you're not uploading this game currently
Unfortunately, the speedrun community around this game isn't all that active. Iplayfalcon and KaosWulf are the only two that have submitted runs of it recently. I haven't counted this game out, though, because I plan to get back to it once Aftershock comes out. I'm sure some older community members will come back for a while, too. However, even when the speedrun community was very active, I was basically the only person doing anything with 100% speedruns.

3:09 3 shots in 1 second... WTF?
It's a trick called pump cancelling. To do it, shoot, then reload. During the reload animation, press the button you use to quick swap to the electrifryer (default key is Q). Then click the mouse button to shoot again. The idea is that you shoot, cancel the pump animation by reloading, then cancel the reload animation by swapping weapons, then you cancel the weapon swap by shooting. You'll have to double click between each shot because the first time you click only cancels the animation. From there, you can click again to shoot. Check the input display at the bottom of the screen and you'll see all that in motion.
