I read people prefer the color palette of the MD, but compare it to the original arcade and you'll notice that the PCE port is actually much more faithful.
MD/Genesis has superior visuals here, like the use of color better, bigger sprites, and parallelex scrolling. PCE/Turbografx-16 looks flat with no parallex scrolling, smaller sprites, and a more washed out color looks, BUT, that CD soundtrack SOOOOOO much better. So it's a tough one. I may edge towards PCE/TURBOGRAFX-16 for the OST only.

No it can't, so many games with the same problems on PC Engine. To get the good scrolling and high sprite counts on PC engine, you need a bad ass programming team, a life time supply of red bull and a Bible. good luck.

Sega Genesis is the better system in this one. Better graphics, better color palate, and smoother gameplay. The sound and music are pretty comparable between the two as well but PC Engine with the CD is a little better. Also PC Engine version of this game is 2-Player and Genesis version is single player I believe.

Another nail biter...both 16-bit machines did a phenomenal job. However, with parallax scrolling, smoother animations, and more detailed characters (it was close) the Genesis gets the win. Which is really saying something as the TG-16 (PCE) needed the CD ROM ROM to really compete here. Why didn't we see any animated FMV sequences on PCE Super CD ROM ROM?

Pelo que eu vi, aparentemente o Mega Drive possui alta resolução e também alta taxa de quadro por segundo, com uma animação mais solta. Já o PC Engine, possui vários detalhes que se mostraram ausentes no Mega, embora a animação fosse um pouco lenta. A tonalidade da cor da versão PC Engine é equilibrada, sem cansar as vistas.
PC Engine has significantly more background detail but a lack of parallax. The sprites are also kinda shrunk. The Redbook soundtrack is phenomenal The genesis has a new shop feature but lacks 2 player, but it doesn't really have any noticeable weaknesses I'd say they are about equal, maybe a slight edge to PCE. In comparison, Forgotten Worlds on PCE destroys Genesis version, and the opposite for Strider
Forgotten World is single-player only on the PCE-CD. It's kind of easy to put more detail into graphics when you don't have to worry about a second player character with all the extra bullets and physics. Plus, the PCE version came out 3 years later, with the Genesis version being a very early, hastily-reprogrammed games. Also, Forgotten World is one of those games that 5x better when played with a friend.
You can see that they had to simplify the backdrops somewhat on the Mega Drive due to the limited space on the cartridge. Still a great port but I would have loved to see it released on a bigger cartridge.

The PC Engine port has issues with graphics definition due to the small resolution (arcade = 384x224, Mega Drive = 320x224 and PC Engine = 256x224). Also no parallax since the PC Engine can't handle this kind of backgrounds (the PC Engine can do some kinds of parallax but not with varied backgrounds like here). And it has some slowdowns. The Mega Drive version lacks co-op but on other hand is much more solid technically with crisper graphics, parallax scrollings and smoother, so fast and fluid! Mega Drive wins!

Crushed image and smaller definition, smaller sprite, less vivid, no parallax plane, loading times... It's not the CD sound that will lead to a tie. Even for the colors, where normally the PCE does a little better to the Mega Drive, here the SEGA team made better choices 2 years before (!) the Nec Avenue team... In this comparison, the Mega Drive version is undoubtedly the best.

Md wins lol? at least the pc engine is identical to the arcade which had 2 player coop, and the fact that the megadrive is only one player proves it couldn't handle the game. Even with any slowdown or whatever pc engine has superior music, and would still win even if it was a 1 player game.

Both have pros and cons. Loved the smooth transition from the first area to the caves on the PC Engine, but it completly lacks parallax scrolling!
The PC Engine could do parallax scrolling with some clever coding, unfortunately it's not the case with this title.
It seems more NES games have good parallax scrolling than PC engine titles. Pretty sad.

The CD sound obviously sounds better but I cannot help to feel the megadrive version is closer to the arcade.
Main difference is speed.
