OMG. Only YOU!!! LOL You made me laugh hysterically. For real. About the burning down below. LOL. I swear to god that I hope you keep reacting for a LONG time. I'll keep supporting you. Love you so much. This is obviously a beautiful song, but ever since Pentatonix covered it, THAT'S my favorite version.
Jeff Buckley is amazing. Grace is one of the best songs ever written. But John Cale's Hallelujah is slightly better for me. I prefer the more powerful rendition. For me, Buckley's is almost as good. It is more intricate than Cale's. But Cale's power is so spot on.
I remember the night he drowned in Memphis, the truth is that city is so full of music and he was there to record and quietly play some small jazz bar gigs to prepare for a tour and test material, most of us (and music was a huge part of my career and everyone I knew) when we heard about the accident had no more than a vague knowledge of him. There is no more dangerous place to take a drunken swim or a sober swim than the Mississippi River. He had a friend on the bank who could see him one minute, then a ship passed between them and that was it. Tragic, had he been from Memphis he would have known that swimming in the river is death. He’s far more famous in death than he was in life, what a talent, what a loss.
Very well said. Sums up my experience almost exactly as well. I didn't miss Jeff as much back then, I was young when it happened, but now I miss him so much. The world lost such a talented and gracious soul.
Love it when there's a prophet-level songwriter (e.g., Cohen, Dylan, etc) who, generations later, are given their posthumous triumph with a perfect, honorable rendition like this.
Originally written by Leonard Cohen, one of my favorite singer-songwriters, who had the opposite kind of voice- very low and deep. Leonard also brought in a full band with a choir for his original version. But Jeff just by himself with only a guitar is very special in its own way.
I think the line of cutting the hair is a reference to the biblical story of Samson and Delilah. Delilah convinced Samson to reveal the source of his strength was his hair and she betrayed him to his enemies after cutting his long hair thus making him mortal and weak. (If I remember correctly. Has been a long time since I've had to read that particular story)
My first coming to your page, but I must say I shall be back ma'am! I love your commentary as its so genuine and hilarious. I love the thirsty and I love the respect.
This guy is a massive inspiration for Ren the Welsh artist, I can see why Jeff Buckley is one of my fav artists of all time this song is just a masterpiece. RIP to an absolute legend
On April 2, 2013, it was announced that Buckley's version of the song would be inducted into the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry. Buckley’s version of “Hallelujah” is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful pieces of recorded music. However, Buckley personally did not see the song’s success. Buckley's version was not an instant hit, nor did Buckley live to see the full measure of the reception his recording would ultimately have, due to his untimely death in 1997. The album on which it appeared did not go gold in the US until 2002, nine years after its release. In fact, like Cohen's original, the Buckley version was not released as a single until much later, and it did not chart until 2006, posthumously for Buckley.
My dad, who is a poet, gave me his take on the lyrics. Clearly there is the biblical references, but he sees the entire song as what is happening in an intimate encounter between a man and a woman. The symbolism of "I heard there was a secret chord that David played and it pleased the Lord," as when a man finds what to do to please his woman during an intimate encounter. The fourth the 5th the minor fall and the major lift, can all be related to the process of the woman getting to her climax. Thus, her hallelujah. He also talks about there was a time when he moved in her and the holy Dove was moving too, she being the dove(the joint climax) And relating it back to David who fell into temptation with another man's wife, Bathsheba, and had her husband killed, and Samson and Delilah, meaning the power a woman has over a man in a physical relationship. So ultimately my dad saw this song as a song to put it bluntly, about sex. I would have to research what Leonard Cohen was actually thinking, to see where my dad's interpretation falls, but that was way deeper than what I expected him to say. Believe me when my 70 something year old dad is telling me his interpretation, my eyes were wide open, lol!
James Franco is who you thinking of. You should have been a casting agent, Franco was going to the play Jeff in a bio pic, but that got cancelled after the accusations came out about him. After Jennifer Aniston played Grace for Brad Pitt he fell in love with Jeff and bought the rights to do the film but he got old and it fell through. Chris freaking Cornell said in an interview he would watch Jeff in the wings when he would open for them or he was in town just to marvel at his voice and to watch tears stream down the faces of grown men in flannels and beards who showed up to rock out. Jeff was special, his contemporaries at that time would all stop what they were doing when Jeff picked up his Tele and walked to the mic.
The song is about feeling called to something big and yet falling like King David or Samson from grace because the love was for a woman he couldn't have and destroyed him
Jeff Buckley - Grace (Live- BBC late show) OR Mojo Pin (Live) please! The Live ones is just so you can y'know.. Get a better look/sound of him in general, when you're this good of a musician, the Live videos are honestly better it often adds ON to the original/studio recording they did, especially since they have to do tons of shows on a tour, he never disappoints, trust me bestie. It's what completely made me fall in love with this man and his crazy vocals, he was so so talented, R.I.P. (edit) Also one of the hottest gentlemen to have walked this earth hands down. pause/noH/justsaying/factsdontcareaboutyourfeelings (edit#2) have to add "Lover, You Should've Come Over" (Live) also, sexy a** song.
RIP Jeff Buckley. There are a lot of amazing versions of this song inspired by this one. k d lang, Myles Kennedy, and Brandi Carlile have all done versions that I love. This song was written by the great Leonard Cohen who wrote around 200 verses. I hate that it has been hijacked at Christmastime because it is a song about an earthly elationship. David and Bathsheba and Samson and Delilah are the biblical references and they are in the Old Testament and lust seemed to be the root of those relationships. This is a song about longing, frustration, and sexuality. It's a hymn but not a Sunday church hymn.
bible story sampson and deliilah....she was hired to betray him and find out why he was so strong and his secret was inthe length of his hair she then cut his hair to take his strength...then they blinded him and chained him to a grind stone to mill flour if i remember the story correctly because sampson was stronger than a thousand men...then they made the mistake of chaining him between to stone pillars/columns and mocked him ...the Lord returned his strength and he pulled the whole temple/builidng/palace down on top of them all killing everyone including himself...
SHAVON, do you have something going on down there? Burning 🔥? Itching? Are you taking antibiotics? Do you need some cream? Ointment? What did the doctor say? Did you get your lab results back yet? What you got?

😂😂MY RIDE OR DIE THX BABE❤❤❤
LMAOO, only you fr 😆 I'm a newer fan, but I get the hype. Not the hero I was looking for, but the hero I need
Watch the live version of "Grace" on the BBC Late Show! You won't be disappointed.
This needs to be PUMPED UP. The best.
Best version of this song ever!
100%
Actually the version off his Live at Siné is the best, track it down if you haven't heard it.
prefer the album version...

DAMN RIP THATS FOR LETTING ME KNOW WHAT HAPPENED
Very well said. Sums up my experience almost exactly as well. I didn't miss Jeff as much back then, I was young when it happened, but now I miss him so much. The world lost such a talented and gracious soul.
It's a Leonard Cohen song, for me the second greatest songwriter of all time. Poor Jeff went for a swim in a river and drowned, passed way too young.
💔

@@joelirishBob dylsn? Don't compare him to Jeff and Leonard. Those guys were men of God, Bob Dylan sold his soul to devil.
He went back to heaven, returned as an Angel like he was❤
We lost him way too soon. RIP.
The man who made me get a telecaster of my own.
Sleep well, Jeff. You earned it.
I was moved by your connection to the song. ( K)..you got levels..much respect and success.
THX KEV❤
I like how at the end of the video, you can hear a guy say “wow”.
YEA I THOUGHT I HEARD THAT TOO
Yeah I believe that was the sound engineer
@@bellac1451 Cool! Thanks.
The song is open for interpretation, for me it always reminded me of the joys and pains of first love.
I believe 'what's going on below' refers to what's going on below the surface, emotionally and mentally
DEEP! THX😘

Omg 5:45 is hilarious 😂 below the surface as in emotions
When I tell you! When I tell you! This man is so beautiful ‼️ you've got to check out...Lover you Should've Come Over, Forget Her .❤
Great song!
Amazing song. And 'Last Goodbye'

Oh my. My favorite lady doing Jeff Buckley, not sure I am prepared. Love the reaction.

I was in rehab years ago. I played this song every night to try and relax and motivate. It still makes me cry and he was gone way too early.
One of the best songs ever written.

I've heard many different renditions of this song, but Jeff Buckley's is always my favorite. So sad that he passed away so young.

you're funny asf 😭 love you ♥

Thank you!
Treat yo self!!!
Check out more of this musical shooting star.
This song definitely involves sexuality, but many people just think it's about God.
This is also the best version of this song and im pretty sure i read somewhere that Mr Cohen himself prefers Jeffs version even to his own original

This song is a cry for help from Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
And, it has never been done so well.
RIP Jeff Buckley
Love your reactions, I’m watching from Serbia. If you get a chance would you please do a reaction to Dermot Kennedy- moments passed
THX BESTIE❤❤❤
Was she crazy??,,,lady,,they all crazy 😂😂

Hey K. ❤ Can you review David Hasslehof song, Jump into my car please? He looked good in those days.
the only bit she gets right is his voice is amazing
James Franco... Chris Cornell was hugely influenced by Buckley.

Tragic case for this poor man. His father was a famous music artist and never saw him and his pain came from this deal. He drowned at 27
💔
He died at 30 years old still tragic tho r.i.p
if it stings, burns or itches see a doctor you right sista

YES♥️
Most mysterious death ever. Not literally ever, but it makes no sense.
Jeff unfortunately died hit by a boat propeller sucha great loss
Not true. He drowned in the wake of a boat that went by.
SHAVON, do you have something going on down there? Burning 🔥? Itching? Are you taking antibiotics? Do you need some cream? Ointment? What did the doctor say? Did you get your lab results back yet? What you got?
