Great video. Beautiful country you fellas live in. Hats off to you from America! My first "B.R.P" Was a 1984 xr 350, then bought a 1986 600. That 600 was the REAL B.R.P! Steel frame, air and oil cooled slab of of an engine. Still love them over the new lighter bikes. CHEERS!
+Rob R thanks Rob. I do love my BRP not so much when it’s flooded after dropping. I’ve recently added a WR450 to the stable and although it’s got plenty of power it’s still a light weight compared to the torque of the XR.
Great vid. I bought an 01 XR650R in December. Already have an XR250 & 400 in the Shed, but the BRPs my new best friend. Power to burn, and road legal here in New Zealand as well.
I had a BRP. Wonderful power. I had to sell it when I moved. I have a DR650 now. It's a better street bike, and easier to live with for casual riding, but even with a TM 40 carb and a full FMF exhaust, it can't touch the power of the XRR.
They are a wonderful machine. The only time I wish it had a button is when I stall it on hills or drop it and flood it. So i dont do that any more. ;-)
Good video mate. Nice ride through that country. I also live not far from there and ride a BRP - Unfortunately most of my BRP riding is commuting through the Gold Coast traffic to work - (still the best part of a work day). Like the mods you have. Hope to see you out on the trails to get a closer look. S
Made it about 13 miles on some very muddy trails. I was surprised how much work it is, but the bike is awesome. 1st and 2nd gear pulls up steep, long inclines were effortless. Fortunately the previous owner was the same weight as I am, and the suspension feels dialed in.
Great video. Thanks to you, I am about to move from a VFR800 to a Crosstourer. Delivery in about a week. Just what I need for the commute to work and should be able to have a little play as well. Now I have seen the BRP in action, I really need to go on a proper off road course / fun day. Keep the videos coming. Very much appreciated.
You'll love the 12X David, heaps easier to ride than the 800. I've still got my VFR800 but the Crosstourer is my preferred ride. The BRP is really to get my off road skills sharper before i trade the 800 on an Africa Twin. 👍😊 but I can't see myself ever getting rid of the XR.
Can not wait had my VFR for 10 years and loved it but unfortunately, I need a little more comfort. After a lot of deliberation, your vids and a test ride I was sold. Can not wait. I looked at the Africa Twin but it does not suit my needs just yet and only have the space for one bike. 😕
Awesome, I'm glad I could help in the decision making process. Let me know what you think after you've had it for a while. I think i'm due for a big ride again soon.
Can someone please settle something I'm having trouble with. Is it true 2000 was the year all XR650R changed? Meaning that any XR650R after 2000 would be an aluminum frame water cooled and anything prior to 2000 was the steel frame air cooled? Because I'm looking at a 2002 to purchase that is the newer version but my brother swears he has a 2002 that is air cooled steel frame. Is my brother wrong? Did Honda, after 2000, make water cooled 650's and air cooled 600's? Your input would be appreciated. Show less REPLY
Mitch Mabee Honda made the XR 600R from 1985 till 2000 which was air cooled. They also started making the XR 650L in 1993 which is essentially the same bike today (street legal, air cooled). Honda made the XR 650R from 2000 till 2007 (liquid cooled, aluminum frame).
Thanks for answering. I have the same tank with the supports that you mention. On my motorcycle the tank is not adjusted to the radiator. I notice that the radiator has just a hole that matches the tank screw. Should I fasten the radiator with the mentioned screw? I have no doubt that the radiator would be firmer, but I do not know if it would be the right thing to do.
The radiators are the originals of the factory. The baffles of the factory tank are adjusted to the radiators. And my question is if the acerbis tank fits with the same screws to the radiator?
Simon Chant in Oz the L is street legal in all states ,but the R isn’t ? Coming from America here . Over here it’s all or nothing on legalities . Very interesting . What happens when u ride from a legal state to where it isn’t legal? Thanks .
Real men kick-start bikes... Bloody prawn...

The 80's xr/xl 600r are the real brp, with the duel carbs. Steel frame and big torque air cooled engine.
I have a brp and riding it brings the stupidest smile to my face everytime it's a pure beast
darryn buck. So I'm not the only one!

Steven Brooking Well done. Pretty rare find in NZ I believe. They are a great bike.
Thanks mate, just the medicine I need👍🏽 BRP looksands sounds addictive! I will have to do the same one day!!!
Hahaha, it's awesome Mate. I did say you should get one so you could meet nurses but you sorted that out with the VFR. 😂😂😂😂
Great video mate. I bought the 2002 model a few weeks ago to offset my Africa twin for the harder stuff. Top bike absolute ball tearer.
They are so much fun to ride, I love mine. I just don't get out on it enough now I have the AT.

Thanks mate, I haven't been out on the BRP for awhile, not since I got the Africa Twin. The AT is like an XR on roids. LOL
Great video. Thanks. Just got mine this year, made it street legal, and hope to ride some mountain trails tomorrow.
+dbryant61 good stuff mate. Let me know what you think.

+dbryant61 Hay mate, they are great areant they. It’s good the suspension is dialed already.
Thanks for the update. 👍

David Johnson I agree 10 years & longer in the tooth & I like the looks of that comfortable Crosstourer too.
On my bucket list
BEETLEJ00CE getting an XR or doing Duck Creek Rd?
I miss my pig :( the 701 is just not the same.
There is something special and unique about them 👍
hello. where did you buy the odometer? did you install it yourself?
This odometer is the stock one. I have changed it to the Trailtek Vapor and it’s a pretty easy DYI job.

Just bought an 01 XR650R with an alloy frame and water cooling.
Good day. Is the tank screw attached to the radiator too? thank you very much.
Hey mate, the tank comes with brackets that sit over the rads. All very neat.

I wonder if you have aftermarket Rads? Or maybe i do?

I'm pretty certain they are. I did mine a couple of years ago.
I sacrificed pounds lbs. For the L. Street legal but love the r more
