Lifetime dog owner here! Please please persevere with crate training! It's sooo worth it as you said :) also! Dont get a crate thats too big, they like to feel cosy and secure. Also, another tip lol! Cover the crate with a blanket to help them feel safe. my 11 year old dog still takes herself off to her create every day when she wants a nap :)

  • @sportybeth
    @sportybeth 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Don’t get the big crate, we had an issue and we were told dogs like to feel cuddled up and they can feel overwhelmed with all the room. They want to feel like they’re snuggled up against their mum, so get a small crate and stuff it with blankets and toys and it should be comforting. Our puppy is a year old now and it’s her little safe space, sometimes we just find her sleeping in it in the day ❤️ what you’re experiencing is totally normal and I would agree definitely persevere with crate training.

I ended up with “baby blues” or something similar when I first got my puppy for the same reasons. Lack of sleep, how world now revolves around what they’re doing and so much anxiety around leaving them alone. It totally gets better around the 5-6 month mark. Also 100% on the crate training. My puppy takes herself into her crate when she is ready for bed or wants to nap. Also makes it easier if you need to put them into vet overnight or in a pet resort as they crate them.

Having a puppy is really hard at first but eventually it becomes second nature and becomes really easy once they’re a bit older! Because you work from home it’s really important that you do leave him alone from a young age so he doesn’t get anxiously attached to you! Just an hour a day leaving him alone will do wonders, even if it’s just when you go to the gym! He has to learn how to entertain himself. I got a puppy during COVID and went through exactly what you’re going through. Good luck G!

We both got our puppies on the same day, and I’m feeling the exact same way as you. There’s not enough discussion around puppy blues, and even though I do not regret my pup in the slightest, and did all the research I could possibly do - There are some days that are just way more challenging than others and I still feel unprepared. Just keep reminding yourself that you’re doing your best and you will both come out the other end better for it. I’m so glad someone is going THROUGH it at the same time as me 😂😂

Accurate af. I had the same feeling of “what did we do, should we have gotten a dog??” And now it’s been 1 year and he is so trainable and loving and he is just part of the fam.

I also have a sausage dog! I highly highly recommend keeping Winnie on a schedule, especially while he is this young. When I trained my dog I kept him in the crate for 2 hours then out for 1 hour and kept doing that. That way he gets crate trained and you also can do what you have to do! I found that it helped with his potty training MUCH faster than some other people that I know who also have sausage dogs. Love the vlog 💕 you got this! He is so worth it in the end💕

Having a puppy is literally like having a baby, the sleepless nights, the crying, the constant attention, you literally are raising them! it’s hard! But it does get better and is so worth it once they settle down. Keep going 🤍

One thing we did with our dog when he was a puppy was put a T-shirt one of us had worn all day or night and place it in his crate with him when he was in there. It helps comfort them having your scent in their “home” and helped bond him even more to us. We also did positive reinforcement with treats every time we placed in his crate and did at random times in the day for random lengths of time, obviously not leaving him in there longer than necessary in the day time. In all honesty it was a lot of work and a lot of feeling overwhelmed and guilty for having those overwhelming feels but keep at it. The puppy phase is short and you’ll miss it when he’s older. I just can’t imagine my life without my pup 🥺

From one dachshund mum to another there’s a dog toy at Kmart that has a heart beat in it it’s supposed to help dogs calm down and relieve any anxiety they may be experiencing which could help at night. Crate training was hard to begin with but it was so worth in the long run ☺️

I was just about to comment and suggest this product! It’s called a snuggle puppy. You can order them online. It has a heat pack that goes in and a heart with a heart beat. It simulates sleeping with their litter which they are used to it soothes their anxiety!
Keep sharing the puppy journey! I can so relate. Just got a husky puppy a few weeks and currently crate training and my lord my world has completely changed. So relatable!

Don’t worry - it’s normal to feel that. It’ll get better as time goes on. I 100% recommend crate training (‘get one that you can adjust to be smaller and bigger as he grows, and a cover to make it feel like a den). Buy lots of training treats too. It’ll save you later when you need to leave him alone on errands and stuff. I felt the blues with my first puppy - two years later I was crazy enough to get a second puppy - and so feeling the same this year too! But I realise how well behaved and trained my first dog is so I know I’ll get through this. We’re in this together girlie :) sending love ❤️❤️❤️

When you put him in the crate cover it with a blanket and pop an item of your clothing next to the crate!! He’ll be able to smell you and think you’re super close! We did this with our first puppy because he used to husky cry every day.

Winston is adorable! I think life is better with a dog :) but in saying that I didn't have my dog since she was a pup so I haven't experienced that phase. But I can say that the only thing I've struggled with my dog is some social/ aggressive issues, which is why I absolutely believe that your dogs behaviours stem from when they are a pup so training them and being their leader is so so important and I think you will be a great dog mum!!

Try and enjoy the puppy phase as much as possible because we look back at puppy photos now and wish we weren't so stressed and enjoyed it more :(. If you can try and take him outside every hour or so during the day to get him used to going to the toilet outside. Sending love to you and Winston! xxx

You could try putting a blanket over his crate at night! It worked for my dog because she used to whine so much at night when she was a puppy. It limits their ‘stimuli’ which can be overwhelming when they’re so young!

I had puppy blues for a good 6 months. I literally couldn't think about anything else but how hard my puppy was, and the best thing I wish I did from the beginning was to not have them with me 24/7. Crate training will definitely help so you can leave them on their own (even while you're at home so you can have a break) without worrying what they are getting in to.

Watching from Spain! I just wanted to say how I feel representive by you on some faces of your life.
It is so nice to show all types of moments, even the bad ones, or how it is normal to sometimes feel like certain ways.
Also and the most important message: all type of women are strong.
You are one of the only ones on social media who dont talk about body insecurities, or things you would like to change.
What I am trying to say is that I have always received coments about my body (good ones and bad ones) and that habit on some way is introduced on your mind. And one day you find yourself telling this same coments or judging on some way your body.
This year I have discovered that we are no one to judge women bodys, even ours.
So I started to stop doing that and change my environment, included some youtubers I used to watch that did not good to me, because even if they had a body acording to the canon beauty type, they just transmit the message that some parts of you are not acceptable because they want to change them (and you have them the exact same way) (ex: lips, breats...etc)
So please keep going because there are not many account free of body judging.
You are one of the most mental health channels I know
I hope you understand my message. It is hard to explain a deep one on another lenguage.
    Keep going 💪🏼💜

Puppies are hard for that first bit, but in all honesty it gets better very quickly as long as you put the effort into training and getting into routines with them ASAP (which is far easier once he can go out because you'll get into a routine around walk times!). It'll only take a few weeks until he settles in properly and you'll feel like you have some breathing space again :) he is absolutely gorgeous x

small baby dogs dont like crates i found its better to have them in their own bed next to yours and just wear earplugs - they get used to sleeping at the right time and they know you are next to them but they cant wake you up! also cant recommend enough getting them doggy friends so find a doggy day care that has a small dog section or have lots of play dates with friends dogs. the puppy phase calms down after 4-6 months but honestly just let him sleep in his bed next to yours and wear ear plugs !!! its a nice boundary. its extremely normal to be wiped out and frustrated but just have these boundaries and then you will enjoy your new bestie a lot more. he is such a cutie x I have a teeny chihuahua jack russell and the puppy phase was a LOT but i have never loved anyone so much in my life Mwah

With crate training, you also shouldn't get a really big crate as he is more likely to soil it and will have too much room to roam around in so might not be able to settle. Definitely get a smaller crate more suitable to his size! You also don't want him to develop separation anxiety so try to leave him alone for short periods of time with something to do e.g frozen kong toys to help with teething, kong wobbler, nylabones, frozen kibble and water in a container, snuffle mats etc and don't always go to him when he whines or barks or you will just be teaching him that when he whines you will come to his side. Puppies do wake up every 2 hours during night time anyway as they need to go to the toilet, this isn't uncommon! My lab is now two years old and fully crate trained. When she would wake up when she was younger during the night or bark, I would take her out to the backyard to pee/poo then reward her with verbal praise after she had gone, then came inside and put her straight back in her crate so she knew it wasn't time to play. Puppy training was so difficult but so worth it in the end! There are lots of great dog training videos online for example Zak George's Dog Training, all of his videos are so informative and really helped out. There are also great dog trainers on tik tok like @myboyrudder, @mariesshepherds. Best of luck xx

Definitely continue crate training him, crates actually provide dogs a safe protected space. Like a den that wild dogs would have. The first few nights of course he will cry and get up a lot. He’s away from his family and has a teeny tiny little bladder. Pups need to pee every 30-1 hour. The extra work now will make it easier for you in the long run. My first pup I didn’t crate train and I regret it. My second it has made things so much easier. It also means once he’s use to his crate and knows that’s his safe space, if you need to get some work done without him running around your feet you can pop him in for some chill time. Also popping a blanket over the top at night helps
    You got this girl xx

Reminds me when I first brought home my puppy Toby. I put him in the carrier crate, and he whining until I took him out a let him sleep in his bed. He didn't like being alone also. I took him to puppy school in petstock, that was kind of waste of money for me. Cause all he would do is bark, and the trainer would keep feeding him. He did not past. I looked up another place that is more obedience training and looks a lot more promising. Unfortunately I do not have the time for it right now. Love the vlog! 💖💖 So glad you have a furry best friend now! 💖💖🐕🐕

Hey Georgia! I also brought home a pup about 2 weeks ago and would definitely persevere with crate training! A trick I did was sliding my hand in through the top flap and just resting it on him until he settles and then sneakily sliding it out when he’s asleep. I also bought him a heartbeat sheep and now he doesn’t even need me to settle him, he just falls asleep straight away in the crate with his sheep! 🥺 Honestly I feel you, the puppy phase is so much work! Also if you ever want a puppy play date in the future I’m in Brissy hehe xx

Love your video 🥰 Just though I'd put it out there that drunk elephant were involved in a pretty big controversy about customer and influence treatment and have never actually formally apologised or taken accountability for the actions of their employees. Keep killing it 🥇

dog crates are actually quite controversial small dogs dont do well in them. people commenting mean well but i work with animals and have a tiny dog and its not the same for little ones. ear plugs are your best friend they need to sleep on the floor next to your bed x

You're probably getting overwhelmed with advice but it's a good idea to take your pup out on walks with you ASAP but just hold him the whole time. That way he isn't exposed to pathogens etc but still gets used to outside smells and sounds :)

Crate training will make him feel more secure and help with potty training!

Check out Zac George’s dog training TH-cam channel!! Such amazing advice that is easy to follow and works super well. 💕 My puppy is 8 months now and I can definitely relate to the rough start. But it does get better I promise!

Only get a crate big enough to sleep in. Or he will go toilet in it and will be a little harder to toilet train him.. also maybe get a side table that you can pop his crate on top of it so he can see you while his in bed

Crate training is amazing for sleeping but please don't put him in his crate as a form of discipline! It makes my skin crawl! Hope Winston is doing better! He's a little cutie!

I’m not sure if you’ve been told or not, but Petcircle is a life saver with pets! They have all great quality stuff, all good food that you can get from the vets, and awesome toys and treats, even flea, tick and working stuff and it’s all up to like 70% off!
    Highly recommend!
He’s so freaking adorable ♥️ welcome Winston!
