Fantastic film. We need more of this instead of paid promotion bollocks from the mass media market. I worked as a contributor at dirt magazine for 12 years and have recently become completely disillusioned with the bike industry. Awesome stuff.
Funny that fun of riding bikes has so little connection with the bike industry to the point that want to build stuff that uses wheels to roll down hills but can no longer really be considered as a bike !
I bike alot too, but I experienced the same thing with skiing. I was a racer for pretty much my whole career, and i was actually pretty succesful. But it changed the way I looked at my hobby and it was more of a ‘i need to do it’ rather than i want to do it. I felt kinda forced to succeed, and i hated that feeling. I started to overtrain my body and boom: i had my first major injury. I decided to stop with racing and focus on healing my body and hanging out with friends (that were also skiers) . Few months later i had the opportunity to make a comeback but I chose not to. I bought myself a pair of freeride skis, and started to search for paths that i hadn’t seen before. And man, i had fun on skis again. Everything was just so new and refreshing. But what i liked most was the fact that i had no pressure , and that i could do whatever i want, and with whoever i wanted. My advise for anyone who is in kinda the same situation: never forget why you are doing your hobby. And if it doesn’t bring you happiness, why are you doing it?
I had something similar happen with road racing. My mentor passed towards the end of season. Then i had a terrible crash gravel riding. The healing time made me realize I didnt want to spend time training to get to that physical peak because mentally. I couldnt take it. Too many 4th place results and feeling like an outcast on my own team.I went on "training camp" in Colorado and fell in love with the mountains and the epic descents. Ive switched to riding my MTB pretty much all the time now because its the only time i really feel free and like a kid just having fun.
Racing isn’t all bad tho for certain people that’s what mtb is about do whatever makes you happy and whatever you enjoy most, love the positive vibes, such composed riding considering so long off the bike
