Eyyy that's me for mono red! Pawpatch is not for golgari, since they often just side out the annexes anyway and we just want to go fast and kill shelly/preacher with frenzy and steal stuff with fealty. Pawpatches are mainly for white control decks and sheltered by ghosts. Questing druids are great in the mirror and BG/UB mid for card advantage
@@TheMTGRebellion I have many thoughts! Red good, and it's important to know when to play more aggressively and when to play more carefully (if your opponent ever "blinks first" and you either save your creature from a damage based removal spell (or cut down) or you kill THEIR creature in response to either a pump spell or a Sheltered by Ghosts you can effectively win on the spot a lot of the time. The green splash feels literally free, and the pawpatch formations do major work against sheltered, temp lockdown, authority (and is just perfect vs oculus, though that deck has seen a major downtick in meta share). Druid helps draw more gas in the mirror and is great against the black midrange decks when you need to grind card advantage. Golgari was and is the hardest matchup, just gotta draw those fealties and kill those glissas/shellys/preachers.
Appreciate the rundown! Feel free to join our discord if you're looking for a competitive community to join. It's basically a digital LGS. Is fealty our best option for golgari or do we need to look at case of the crimson pulse, etc...? - Riktus
I saw some zero annex list in golgari mid. Those were went in Dec 7 birds of paradise and Dec 8 standard challenge 64, both 2nd place. Maybe, 6/6 token is pretty weak against pawpatch formation, dimir's stun counter, leyline binding/shelter by ghost exile effect(token will not return after i break it cause it is token), and bounce effect by either temur or simic terror.
I have been wanting Boros Auras to work consistently so badly. There is a list that won the 12/8 MTGO Birds of Paradise Spectacular and went 11-1 with Spellbook Vendor and honestly it is exactly what the deck needs. A creature that creates auras every turn.
I'd never played too much Arena before but was away from Magic since 2021 and decided to fire it up a few weeks back in mid-November. Just made Mythic for the first time using your suggestion of Drake Hatcher in the main over Phantom Interference for UW Oculus. Was surprising how great it was. Also, with Sword of Once and Future on it, it makes Dimir so sad.
Right. I dont think they argued against that what twisted fealty is for. But asking why are they playing pawpatch formation? Pawpatch is 100% for Authority of Consuls and other problematic enchantments not demons.
I would also argue that it's just really good on the draw in general. When you start the game a beat behind on tempo turning your opponent's best blocker into an attacker is often exactly the swing you need to push through lethal.
Im climbing to mythic with temur combo. I was playing a 4 color version with insidous roots before duskmorn but this deck feels so consistently broken now
How do you guys decide the tier cutoffs? I would consider Golgari tier 2 based off of this week's results. Do you give some weight to past weeks' performance?
We give relative weight based on size and importance of the event. The more competitive the field, the more weight we give to top 8s and trophies. -MAX
The last blue-based artifact aggro deck in standard was Simic Cookies since it used Gingerbrute and Tough Cookie, it's just paying homage to that. Similar aggressive play pattern with lots of artifacts involved.
The Zur domain list is very far from being good. Only 3 copies of several key cards, authority of the consuls main board for some reason (bo1?), and a red splash that destroys your manabase all for a 1 of red overlord? Some very weird sideboard choices as well…
1. I don't play bo1. At all. EVER. 2. I'm still tinkering with it to find out if it can actually hedge against aggro as much as it needs to. If you have a better build absolutely feel free to post it or come to our discord and help us brew. 3. Having three copies of a card is not by itself any kind of issue. You need to have better reasons for your generalized statement than that. -MAX

Agreed. Annex has some matchups where it's poorly positioned. That said, I struggle to cut it entirely, as that engine takes over. - Riktus
Ive been loving pawpatch recruit in gruul aggro over the swiftspears. Makes single target removal so hard for them and the offspring helps later game
Absolutely agree, huge improvement in a world filled with black-based midrange. - Riktus
Another banger, keep up the great work guys!

Disenchant being a legitimate sideboard card in nearly 2025 is wild.

Mono red player here, twisted fealthy also go in against Zur, golgari demon and other midrange matchups sometimes also in against dimir

I wasn't arguing. Just pointing out some extra strats that the card is good for.

Is sword of once and future too slow/risky against so much targeted removal from dimir when you try to equip?
It's there to take over the mid/late game once the initial volley of removal spells have been traded. I've liked it so far, for reference. - Riktus
just threw together the bant tempo list that got third a few weeks ago, do you think the sultai version is just better?
