    13:00 they were smart to avoid the triangle helicopter, it would constantly be rotating unless one rotor spun twice as fast as the others. That’s why drones always have 4-6 rotors

      In fact, this is theoretically possible if two propellers rotate in different directions, and the third is coaxial, as on the Kamov's helicopters.

      Many of those things would've been impractical, inefficient and unusable. It looks to me that they were not really made to bring actual utility but to impress the higher-ups to shell out more funding for the design bureau. When state funding dried up after the fall, no private investor would've given money to build those things.

    • @Jonathan.D

      Instead of retractable wings planes use the much more reliable and aerodynamic swing wing. They are mostly for military use. Some planes still use them.

    • @Jonathan.D
      @Jonathan.D ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@spazzey0 That was my exact comment to someone else. Those are the two reasons the military will probably never have another swing wing aircraft. The only reason the B-1 is still in service is due to a lack of a better replacement that is within budget. The B-1 cost something like $3.5 a month to maintain in active service. A B-52 is less but they perform different roles. I don't think most people know the difference. Then again, most people probably don't know what a swing wing is. 😄

    You’re forgetting that modern tanks weigh in the neighborhood of 70 tons and they also have tracks which aren’t exactly conducive to high speeds though they quite good at spreading ground pressure along the vehicle’s hull. Moreover, in the Soviet Union there was: free education for everyone, followed by employment in their specialty. Free medicine without co-payments and insurances. Stable prices so much so that they were printed on the product from the factory. The state gave it to people without housing for free, there was no need to take out a mortgage and generally pay for housing somehow. Canteens where you could eat healthy food cheaply. But of course there were also disadvantages. For example, the absence of private property. Housing received from the state free of charge is the property of the state, and it cannot be sold or rented out. The impossibility of organizing your own business, as a result of the lack of private property. If a person did not have a job for a long time, this was considered a criminal offense, so even famous singers and football players were employed, for example, at a factory, although they never appeared there. The Soviet Union is one big crazy experiment. I was born in Russia, but my grandparents and parents told me a lot about it

    One of the main factors cited for the breakup of the Soviet Union was the high cost of the arms race, bankrupting the country. 25:57 5,000 tons is tiny for an aircraft carrier, officially the smallest aircraft carrier in the world is the HTMS Chakri Naruebet when fully loaded, it weighs in at around 11,486 tons and is designated as a helicopter carrier as it is too small for the vast majority of fixed-wing military aircraft.

      I believe lots of US tech originates from other countries (brain migration), including Russia\USSR. Sikorsky helicopters. "Ekranoplans" (surface effect vessels) - I believe in US several models exist and are used nowadays (quite unlike in Russia). The F-35 many Russian aircraft fans believe to be the re-design of Soviet Yak-141 project, sold or stolen to USA following the USSR downfall.
      It cannot be argued though that Russia has been weak at its industry, and even the great Soviet progress has not solved many problems, like engines production, or bearings, and of course microelectronics (Russian microprocessors are biggest in the world, - a common joke here)...

  • @lloydivenn9809
    @lloydivenn9809 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Actually it’s impossible to have a helicopter with three main rotors and it being stable at the same time. You will need an even number of rotors to achieve stability and three is odd, meaning you would have to have one rotor speeding twice as fast as the two other roaders to carry a lighter Load… and even if it didn’t have a later load for the third rotor it would still be unstable when going forwards as one side of rotors has to turn faster than the other making it turns around in circles… so as cool and crazy as a three rotor helicopter in the shape of a triangle sounds it’s totally impractical…

      @@johnelliott8630 OK I can see how that helicopter would work but with this idea of a helicopter The weight is evenly distributed across all three rotors so it would have to constantly be going forward to order to achieve stability and land spinning in circles… not exactly ideal for the pilots…
