Shane was 100% right about this. His obsession with Lori is the only thing he was wrong about. He should’ve let her go and helped Rick make good decisions and protect the group.

Shane depended on Lori and Lori depended on Shane thinking her husband was dead, Lori immediately broke contact with Shane and lied to Rick about it making Shane go a bit insane since she was the only purpose he lived through the hordes. Shane didn’t know what to do except keep moving forward until he broke and tried to kill Rick so he could have Lori. It was Lori’s fault Shane went insane.

What I liked about earlier seasons was how they felt so raw and personal. Like when Hershel’s face dropped when he saw the walker he was holding onto should’ve been dead and all his beliefs were getting challenged by Shane’s gunshots. You could clearly see that Hershel knew deep down in that moment, that Shane was right.
I think that's why he didn't try to do anything when Shane was opening the barn. He just stayed down and tried processing what was happening around him. Then they got put in a spot where they had to "practice what they preach" when Sofia came out, so Rick wasn't just making the tough call in shooting her, he was also proving Shane had a point and he knew it.
TWD just like many other TV series the producers are too greedy and just want to produce more and more shows until no one wants to watch it...
That's also part of the reason why BCS and Breaking Bad are good, they know when to stop.

This was one of the times where Shane was right. Hershel needed this moment. As a man of medical background, he knows these things are dead and decaying and cannot be helped. Shane was 100% one of the best early show characters, and this is kinda proof of it. It’s definitely a bit agressive, but he’s logically explaining the situation to some delusional people to protect them and everyone else. Shane was right here. But his approach with things is what got him killed. His “it’s only us” mentality is what got him killed. He was willing to sacrifice others for his own sake and desires. Ans that is a weakness in this sort of world. Rick loves because he understand people, trust, relationships, loyalty, it’s all a resource.

I don’t even understand the grief of the people like this in the show. At this point it’s been a month or two into the apocalypse. This isn’t a fever, they aren’t getting better, their heart isn’t beating, they aren’t breathing, like I found myself completely and utterly agreeing with Shane in this moment. It’s missing parts of its cheek, it’s not screaming in pain, blow one of its legs off and it won’t stop. Its coming at you trying to kill you, that human part that you cared about is blatantly and clearly gone. I get not being able to let your loved ones go, but collecting the corpses of your neighbors and friends, and everybody else you knew is very clearly a sign of being mentally unwell. And indulging that fantasy was not the answer.

All the clips show it even when he is confronting himself snd slapping himself for his sick thoughts he knows he lost himself and cant get himself back. It’s part of an apocalypse people break down its part of deep trauma, you don’t have a shrink to help you or get some rest, if you cant regulate your emotions with yourself or the people around you you are doomed and going down. You have to imagine this as a great war for years and years where there is no good outcome. Its just good story writing and character development what Shane went trough.
