  • These huge, impressive silver neck chains are potent symbols of power. In this film, curator Alice Blackwell explains where they come from and what they symbolise.
You can see the chains in the free exhibition Scotland's Early Silver, on at the National Museum of Scotland until 25 February 2018. Find out more at www.nms.ac.uk/silver

This makes me think of an Arthurian poem by Taliesin where a chain is described in relation to an ox. This would have been from around the late 500's AD.

Wow. That is impressive. Maybe someday we'll know who made these and for whom.

These chains are gorgeous, they had great jewels.
About the weight, is not that much, when you wear it you feel less the weight, I have a 1 kg cross necklace and it is not very heavy.

1KG? Maybe you should go to school first and learn math.

@@nicparker3809: Yes, I wear a 1 kg necklace. Maybe you should go to school fist, because I know better than you what I have designed and what I have put on scale.
And if you don't like heavy jewelry, don't wear it.
